Zimbra vs. Scalix vs. et. al.
Well, I stumbled onto zimbra.... I have a Scallix system built, but still have some rough edges to try to smooth. Like the way it works with sendmail, no dnsbl's will work as sendmail sees all mail as coming from locohost (scalix). Still battling that one which is when I ran across Zimbra. So, this made me start wondering. Are there other exchange server-like products out there? Has

Bind Issues
I'm running bind in a chroot environment. It seems that since the Redhat snafu which wrecked bind (yes, I had caching nameserver running as well but not anymore) I have been having problem with my slave nameservers retrieving updates from the master. Looking at the zone records, some are owned by root, some are owned by named. I'm now confused as to what the ownership should be and

Postfix Questions
I've been running sendmail since the beginning of my online time. 1. Did I see that postfix can run sendmail milters? 2. If so, did I read that postfix can run these separately for inbound vs. outbound? 3. Can it run like a rbl blacklist on inbound and not outbound? 4. If the above is true, does this require separate configurations of postfix or is it already set to allow this out of the

saslauthd attack
I'm seeing a lot of activity over the last two days with what looks to be a kiddie script. Mostly trying to access several of our servers with the username anna. All failed... in fact I don't think we have a user anna on any of our servers. Meanwhile... I'm running Sendmail. This pertains to Centos 4 and 5 servers. I'm also running fail2ban on some and Ossec on others. So far,

OK, so does anybody have a good firewall rule solution for what we're supposed to be doing with bind these days? Obviously port 53 is no longer enough. TIA John Hinton

mbox corruption
Running CentOS 4.4, Sendmail... I've been experiencing some mbox corruption this week. Mail clients can't pick up mail and SquirrelMail gives an error.. of which the logs state "File isn't in mbox format". Is anybody else experiencing this? Any ideas about a correction? Cause? Thanks, John Hinton

Disabling Spamassassin on outbound email
Does anybody have a good method for disabling SA checks on outbound email under sendmail running the spamass milter? Some of our Vhost accounts are getting flagged as spam on the way out due to being on a dirty ISP network. John Hinton

CentOS 6, Postfix Dovecot
I only have one Postfix server running at the moment and have some questions. On that install, I did Amavisd-new with ClamAV, SpamAssassin, Postfix and Dovecot. I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm really hoping for performance guidance. Is the added layer of complexity running Amavis worth the effort on a system with moderate mail flow? Or should I just go down the path of getting

Sendmail vs. Postfix
Hah!!! This list is just too calm and mundane. The only thing we argue about is the ''announce'' list vs. the ''user'' list. ;) So, it''s springtime! I''m seeing all the regularly scheduled ''oil'' threads on my motorcycle lists and thought "oh what the heck, lets get the ''oil'' thread going over on the CentOS

CentOS Email Wiki and/or mailing list

Anybody finding a huge mailfile named webmaster in their mqueue? I'm wondering what/how this gets there? Just found one on one server that was over 2 gigs! Yuck!!! So far, this has been on CentOS 3 machines using sendmail. Best, John Hinton

CentOS 5.6 PHP 5.3 and SquirrelMail
OK, so I did an upgrade to PHP 5.3 on one of my servers. I noticed the uninstall of php also removed SquirrelMail and it won't install under PHP 5.3. Has anybody worked this out with a good RPM or repo solution? -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive Online Solutions

Intrusion Detection Systems
Situation: We are providing hosting services. I've grown tired of the various kiddie scripts/dictionary attacks on various services. The latest has been against vsftpd, on systems that I can't easily control vs. putting strict limits on ssh. We simply have too many users entering from too many networks many with dynamic IP addresses. Enter.... thinking about LIDS or Log Based

Getting Mailman Running
On a CentOS 4 box, I'm trying to get Mailman running. I found the apache conf file in /etc/httpd/conf.d and set the servername in that. When I try to go there, I get a 500 internal server error.. when I try to start Mailman, I get Starting mailman: Site list is missing: mailman I've never run Mailman before.. looked in the /etc/mailman/sitelist.cfg.. don't see anything in there

Random Proliant Crashes CentOS 6.1
I've been seeing some random Proliant DL380 G4 64bit crashes. Each time, on the console are messages relating tojbd2/cciss and something about a waitfor 120 seconds. Is anybody else seeing anything like this? Oddly, I can't seem to find this in the logs. I guess it can't write when this happens. -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive Online

tcptrack
Does anybody have a working version of tcptrack running on Centos 6 x64? The rpmforge rpm installs and runs on the -t eth# command, but if you add a port to it, it bombs with a pcap compile error. It runs fine for me on Centos 5 x64, but seems to have what looks like an old bug reintroduced in 6. -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive Online Solutions

Any ideas? Best, John Hinton

Dovecot .99 Bug - LF not found where expected
After about three years of this, it seems I have finally gotten somewhere near to the bottom of this. The symptom: Suddenly a user cannot download their email. Checking again through SquirrelMail, I get an error which says a log was written. Going to the logs I see "imap(username): Error indexing mbox file /var/mail/username: LF not found where expected" Using Webmin's read
