Thanks, Bruce. Timo et all; Bruce specifically has been looking
at my instance of dovecot after a friend of his reported problems
with Mail.app and my server.

migration question: "imap server directory"
In prepping our IMAP migration to Dovecot, I've hit upon a small
issue: the "IMAP server directory" which Thunderbird users have
set in the "advanced" prefs.
Our old IMAP server seems to set your current directory to ~.
This wound up causing users to set their IMAP server directory to
"/home/<user>/mail/" so that their mailboxes would be found:

LSUB "" "" vs LIST "" "" (hacked Apple Mail problem)
The LSUB command does not act like LIST when provided with an empty
mask argument. LIST responds with the hierarchy delimiter:
* LIST (\Noselect) "." ""
OK List completed.
whereas LSUB doesn't return anything useful:
OK Lsub completed.
RFC 3501 doesn't specify what LSUB should do in this case, but
Courier IMAP has LSUB act like LIST. The attached patch

\Noselect on virtual folders
Hi,
I've some virtual folders which seem a bit odd when they are listed.
a LIST "virtual.spam." "*"
* LIST (\Noselect \HasNoChildren) "." "virtual.spam."
* LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." "virtual.spam.unchecked"
* LIST (\Noselect \HasChildren) "." "virtual.spam.disagree"

Query about LIST behaviour
I've just switched from UW-IMAP to Dovecot v1.1.beta16, and I'm having a
bit of a problem with a difference in the behaviour of the LIST command.
What I'm seeing is:

UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN NAMESPACE LOGIN-REFERRALS UIDPLUS
LIST-EXTENDED I18NLEVEL=1] Logged in as jp3

Shared folder prefix listed multiple times with dovecot 2.1.1
Hi,
after upgrading from 2.0.18 to 2.1.1 I noticed that I could not use
shared folders with mutt anymore. 2.1 lists the shared namespace prefix
once per user sharing an folder in LIST "" "%".
I also noticed, that with 2.1 the user folder (Shared/<username>) is no
longer tagged as \NoSelect.
Is this the intended behaviour and mutt simply cannot cope with it or
is it a

Forcing NOSELECT for a Maildir folder?
Hello,
is it at all possible, possibly without modifying the source code of
Dovecot, to enforce that a mailbox gets the NOSELECT attribute?
I have a namespace set up like this:
namespace private {
separator = /
prefix = Local Folders/
location = maildir:/xyz/core/store/maildir/%u/
inbox = yes
hidden = no
list = yes
subscriptions = yes
}
And the folder

\Noselect missing after deleting mailbox
Hi,
With mailbox_list_index enabled (which is the default), Dovecot won't
return \Noselect when LISTing a mailbox that was deleted but still has
subordinate mailboxes. Before creating such a mailbox in the first
place, it does return \Noselect.
1 LIST "" Test
1 OK List completed (0.002 + 0.000 + 0.001 secs).
2 CREATE Test/Test
2 OK Create completed (0.014 + 0.000 + 0.014 secs).

Users w/o acl access appear to be subscribed to public folders (1.1b8)
I noticed this today, I had a user outside of our department test out
dovecot. They were using squirrelmail and I noticed that dovecot thinks
this user is subscribed to ALL public folders even though a dovecot
ACL prevents all access. I'm pretty sure access is still denied.
I was able to reproduce this with a guest account I added:
l lsub "" "#shared/decs/%"

Children, HasChildren
Hello,
I'm using dovecot 0.99.10.2 on a debian box. Mailstore is maildir.
If I list the IMAP hierarchy in mutt (debian, 1.5.4+20031024-1) it shows
all my plain mailboxes as having subfolders - while none of them have.
I straced mutt and this is the IMAP exchange (a bit reformatted
for readability):
write(6, "a0001 LSUB \"\" \"%\"\r\n", 19) = 19

feature or bug on delete?
RFC 3501 mentions this:
The DELETE command MUST NOT remove inferior hierarchical names.
For example, if a mailbox "foo" has an inferior "foo.bar"
(assuming "." is the hierarchy delimiter character), removing
"foo" MUST NOT remove "foo.bar". It is an error to attempt to
delete a name that has inferior hierarchical

Thunderbird subscription bug ?
Hello Timo,
I'm having a hard time trying to understand why Thunderbird 3.0.3 doesn't allow
me to subscribe to a shared mailbox which I can subscribe to via Kmail for
instance.
I'm running dovecot-1.2.11/Maildir. The user 'doveimap' shares his mailbox
folder/subfolder to the 'dovepop' user which should see it in the '#shared'
shared namespace at the following

Use of NO-NOSELECT in mail_location
I enabled NO-NOSELECT in mail_location as it seemed to be an
optimization without negative consequences. The wiki states
NO-NOSELECT : Automatically delete any \NoSelect mailboxes that
have no children. These mailboxes are sometimes confusing to
users. Also if a \NoSelect mailbox is attempted to be created with
"CREATE box/", it's created as selectable mailbox instead.

Pine and prefix - LIST command bug?
I've been having problems with Pine 4.62 talking to Dovecot 1.0 stable.
It's fine when the folder collection path is empty, but if I have
"~/mail/" or "mail/" it gives access errors (I'm using the "~/mail/",
"mail/" etc. hidden namespaces for backwards compatability).
It seems to me that Dovecot is not replying correctly to a "LIST"
