FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
A few hours ago I downloaded .../i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.9-RC1-i386-disc1.iso and made kern/mfsroot floppies from it. If I enable my ICH5R SATA controller in "native" mode, the 4.9-RC1 GENERIC kernel hangs solidly (only the system reset button can unwedge it) during device configuration. The last line of bootstrap monologue written by the kernel is: plip0" <PLIP network

openbsd macppc
i run my server (web, email, calendar, etc.) off a mac mini ppc. it's a beautiful thing for our modest needs (quiet, low power, stable), but i'm looking at switching it to a vanilla bsd. has anyone tried dovecot on an openbsd (or similar) install for macppc? -SM-

shadow_copy script example leads to system hang?
I don't know if this was present (maybe not?) when the script was written, but the script for taking a snapshot in the instructions for shadow_copy: that looks like this: ---- xfs_freeze -f /home/ lvcreate -L10M -s -n $SNAPNAME /dev/Home/lvol0 xfs_freeze -u /home/ mkdir /home/shadow_share/@GMT-$SNAPNAME mount /dev/Home/$SNAPNAME \ /home/shadow_share/@GMT-$SNAPNAME -onouuid,ro ----

Heads up v2.03h on snom 200
Christian, Just a quick heads up warning that something seems to be amiss on the Snom 200 running v2.03h code. The Message Waiting Indicator is blinking (due to a voicemail left in Asterisk) as its suppose to. Some time later the LED stops blinking (as though no voicemail); then later it starts blinking again. I left a voicemail to x3008 (button 2) this morning at 8:48am, and purposefully have

warning: NFS hangs with dovecot 2.3.8 on Debian buster
A warning to those considering to upgrade to Debian 10 (buster): we have seen occasional NFS hangs with dovecot when using the stock debian buster kernel (4.19.67-2+deb10u1). When we downgrade to the debian stretch kernel (4.9.189-3+deb9u1), the issue does not occur. Note that we *only* downgraded the kernel, the rest of the OS is still debian buster. Dovecot 2.3.8. A little more info: we have a

LDA directly to Maildir/cur
i'm tired of dealing with buggy clients so i'm moving more processing into the server-side. i configured procmail as LDA with maildir-style mailboxes. i would like to simulate an automatic "mark as read" feature during procmail processing. simplest way looks to be forcing delivery directly to Maildir/cur instead of Maildir/new, but i suspect this may screw up dovecot. will

backup using rsync
i'm trying to backup the dovecot Maildir files over a cifs share. source is a debian build, share is a readynas. i've been getting rsync: mkstemp 'filename goes here' failed: Not a directory (20) errors. rsync is v3.0. i believe this is related to the dovecot file naming convention that includes characters such as ':' in the filename. anyone else seeing

Why am I not getting "some" r-help posts?
At the risk of being flamed for mortal stupidity, I'm trying to figure out what could have possibly changed (at my end almost certainly) that make Brian Ripley's posts (in particular) not show up on my mail server (at least not on the one where I receive my email). All my email comes to a central university server from which it is forwarded to several different places where I can get

"./blah/blah" vs. "/blah/blah"
Hello, Earlier in my rails application, I was using the convention of writing the following to refer to templates and/or views in the view folder. "./blah/blah" But in the Edge rail, it doesn''t work and the page doesn''t shows any output there is no error in the development log as well. But changing the above to "/blah/blah" seems to fix things. Was I

CLI Timeout ?
Is there a cli timeout at all ? I normally leave a remote session connected just to monitor and view what's going on. Yesterday, I went to my console and found the message pbx*CLI> Disconnected from Asterisk server Now, I thought that may I had restarted the * server from somewhere else and had forgotten about this old session. However, it's happened again today, and I know that I

Index abuse
How resilient is Dovecot's indexing mechanism? (seeing as it's been extensively re-vamped I guess this question may have different answers for 0.99 & 1.0). To put it in context, I'm playing with server-side automatic maintenance scripts for things like deleting messages more than x days old from folders a, b, c, etc. (using Maildir layout). So far I'm just zapping files in

How to xfer calls or is my setup wrong?
I am having problems transferring calls from one sip extension to another - the extensions use various phones hardware/software. From what I can tell I should just be able to press # and then dial an extension to blind xfer a call right? How do I do attended xfer? Either the phones (for this test I have tried xlite and budgetone102) are not sending DTMF correctly or something else is amiss...

Periodic fsck's fail but all is OK.
Every 24 mounts, fsck runs. Often enough, this run will fail demanding a manual run. This -f manual runs goes through its stages and only on rare occasion finds an orphaned node. 99%, finds noting amiss. Any reason for these "failures"?

"no more processes"
Just had a box go unresponsive on all services (still pingable) had a session still open to it but any command would result in the error "no more processes" Checks clean for a rootkit and nothing amiss in the logs (that I can find). I have never heard of a bsd box giving this error before, I can't even think of what (other than a hack) would cause such an ungraceful freeze. Any

The llvm-gcc source can be download from: http://jolt-lang.org/llvm-gcc.tar.bz2 31mb ~7 minute download http://jolt-lang.org/llvm-gcc.tar.gz 40mb ~8.5 minute download Download times assume you are the only person downloading. Package dependancy
Hey folks, I'm running CentOS4 (excellent work btw :-) here, and have apt installed and configured to pull from http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/ It's all working swimmingly, other than when I try to install nagios-plugins, whereupon it bails out looking for perl(Net::SNMP) Am I missing a repository here, or has something gone amiss with dependancies?
