A tail of joy...
So, I _finally_ got the time to upgrade from 0.99.14 ... which I told myself
I'd upgrade from once 1.0 was released... (yep, I've been _that_ busy :)
So I read the Wiki page on 0.99->1.0 transition, and went through the config
file - for all of about 5 or 10 minutes.
I logged in at 11pm when nobody else should be using it, restarted dovecot
with the new version, and logged in.

Outlook 2003 duplicates UIDL
Hi
I have Redhat ES4.0 with dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1 installed.
Reading a post Outlook Duplicates issue is still killing me, there seems to
be asolution to this, I was wondering when this will be available on redhat
es40?
# Note that Outlook 2003 seems to have problems with %v.%u format which is
# Dovecot's default, so if you're building a new server it would be a good

problems building / starting test40 + test42
Hi
I was trying to build test40 (and then test42, since it came out in the mean
time) on my fresh Solaris 9 box at home, and ran into a few snags.
First problem was during the build. Make spat the dummy in the auth directory:
Making all in auth
make: Fatal error in reader: Makefile, line 701: Unexpected end of line seen
Current working directory /home/pkg/dovecot-1.0-test42/src/auth
So, I

Problem building 1.0-test7 : missing header
Greetings,
I recently rolled out Dovecot in our small (<30 people) company, and
have been mightily impressed by the quality, performance and ease of use.
I was hoping to use the new versions soon, as I'd like to start using
CRAM-MD5 (much more common in mail clients than DIGEST-MD5), but found
the 0.99.11 versions too unstable.
So, I tried to build last nights CVS snapshot (May

Hi all,
I installed thunderbird.i386 0:1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4 on my computer.
However, the icon on my panel has been disappeared. Is that bug?

Dovecot imap with Postfix and using Thunderbird as client
Hi,
I just recently installed dovecot, and I am having the following problem:
If I send an email to my account on this new machine, I can log in via
SSH and use the unix mail command, and instantly my email is visible.
If I turn on Thunderbird, it will show my new message. If Thunderbird
was already on and had already checked the mailbox, even if I click on
get new mail for that specific

firefox i386 1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4
Hi all
I am using CentOS 4.3 and my default language is Japanese. I am using
firefox with Japanese language. I installed firefox i386
1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4 update 15 M on my computer via yum yesterday.
CentOS 4.3 has been acting strange! Japanese language on firefix has
gone and English seems to be default language on firefox. I simply
removed firefox 1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4 and

Is 1.0-test stabilising?
Has Timo backed off work, and been busy with something else, or has 1.0 really
stabilised that much?
Seems to me just a couple of weeks ago we were seeing a new test release every
few days... now there's been nothing all month...
I'm hoping it's ready for release... but if it's just that Timo's busy, well, I
can understand that. We're about to receive some new

0.99 mail env
Greetings, all
Last night I migrated our mail between two machines... both running dovecot
0.99.xx.
In the process, I wanted to make some small changes, namely that new mail be
delivered to mboxs in /var/mail/%u and IMAP mail stored in Maildirs at ~/.imap ...
I tried using:
default_mail_env = maildir:~/.imap/:INBOX=mbox:/var/mail/%u
But had no luck. Is it only 1.0 that can work with two

Compressed maildir
Greetings,
I noticed a while back someone posted a patch/plugin that allowed Dovecot to
use compressed mbox files. I'm now wondering how far that would put us from
having compressed maildir? I have a server with more CPU than disk space, and
while I can buy more HDD space, my backup solution doesn't make that practical.
It seems to me that when looking for a message file, if it

Two strange behaviours with dovecot+postfix+squirrelmail
Hi all,
About a week ago I was forced to migrate my main (production) email server from RH9 to
Centos4.1. The installation has dovecot-0.99.11 + postfix-2.1.5 and >600 mbox accessed email
accounts.
Number 1. Some users accessing thru squirremail (installed in my webserver) can read their
INBOX at /var/spool/mail directory but when trying to delete a message they receive the
following error

Dovecot and Active Directory Authentication
First off, sorry if this has been asked before - I have looked, honest.
Is it possible to get dovecot to authenticate users against active
directory, treating the AD as a plain ldap server? I have this working
with cyrus saslauthd.
Currentlt I get a long delay (30 seconds or so) then
* BYE Disconnected for inactivity.
All I get in the maillog is

customflags and keywords
OK. After checking the 0.99->1.0 migration documentation, it seems I've been a
little confused between customflags and keywords. (Though this is partly due to
my repeated requests for clarification being ignored.)
The page (http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/UpgradingDovecot) says 1.0 does not
use .customflags any more. Now, I'm hoping they're still supported, in which

Unused SQL API
Greetings,
recently I've been writing a database driver module for Dovecot to use SQLite.
It's mostly for my own use, but I do recall other people have asked for this.
Firstly - Timo, I grow to love your work more and more every day. :) I have
not had any trouble figuring out what is needed of the driver, even without any
API documentation.
However, the one part of the driver

Quota
We're getting ready to set up a new mail server running dovecot 0.99.11
(CentOS 4) with maildir and filesystem quotas. I saw on the Dovecot web
site that "hard filesystem quota can also be problematic." How
problematic? What problems might we anticipate?
Thanks.

samba3 upgrade misery
Greetings, all
We've been running samba2 for far too long - I'd just never found the time to
upgrade, and it wasn't a priority since it WORKED. Our little Solaris9/SPARC64
box happily served our few gigs of files to 20 users, and played the part of a PDC.
Then I upgraded CUPS, and discovered samba2 doesn't like cups-1.2 libs, and
figured it was as good an excuse to make the

out of disk space notification
Hi Dovecot readers,
My server (squirrelmail) provides me with the following error-message
when selecting a mailbox (trash):
ERROR : Could not complete request.
Query: SELECT "Trash"
Reason Given: Out of disk space
The user is not over quota but for some reason dovecot still thinks this
to be true. Can anyone give me a hint for finding a solution for this
problem.

MySQL and dovecot
Hi,
I have some problems with my connection from outside to POP3/IMAP... As far
as I can see every should be set corret. Currently I use version
0.99.11-1.FC3.4 installed from an RPM-file.
I tried to debug the signin process. It's always saying bad password... What
encryption can DoveCot read? Currently my password is encrypted with
md5crypt...

Upgrade To New Version
I am currently running Dovecot on DoD production email server (Postfix) and
the latest version the software available from Redhat is
dovecot-0.99.11-8.EL4. According to you guys, this is ancient and I was
wondering what is the safest and easiest way to get my version updated
without breaking it...
Thanks for any help and or points in the right direction...
