Big sites using Dovecot
Hi,
Are there any big Dovecot sites (say 50,000-100,000) users on this
list?
What sort of hardware do you use.
What sort of problems do you see?
Many thanks,
Jonathan.

Quota plugin creates IMAP folder
Hi everyone,
I have noticed recently that Dovecot creates lock directories
under users' Maildirs which look like IMAP folders. This is bad
since users will see IMAP folders that are not supposed to be
there.
In my logs I see
dovecot: imap(...): Error: file_create_locked(/.../Maildir/.vsize.lock)
failed: Is a directory
The directory in question
# ls /.../Maildir/.vsize.lock/

Newbie NFS question
As is usually the case, I'm not sure enough of what the DC docs are
referring to; there are some implicit info assumptions that I, the
Newbie, miss...
Anyway, here is my situation
Dovecot is to run on one machine only, its index files are stored in on
a separate, non-quotaed, not NFS filesystem.
INBOX and folder filesystems (all mbox format) are native to this
machine and are NFS

Corrupted index cache file dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size
Hi,
Our dovecot setup consists of two hosts running dovecot-1.0.beta9 with
Maildir/indices stored on NFS(noac,actimeo=0 used).
I am seeing these messages at times - but no real problems on the client
side. Is this something to worry about?

Redundant shared mail store?
Hi guys
I'm about to embark on a project replacing a legacy single mail server
running proprietary software with a cluster of Dovecot servers. We
clearly need a shared mail store for these servers, but we are not happy
with simply using a server running NFS as this becomes a single point of
failure.
What have other people used? AFAICT our options are:

nfs locking issues...
I'm running Dovecot 1.1 RC1. I believe I've done all the due diligence
for making things working correctly over nfs. But I run into locking
issues if I run over nfs.
procmail is doing the delivery over nfs. uw-imap was ruining over nfs.
dovecot is fine if its on the nfs server (i.e. it has local access to
the disk, no nfs)
I run into lock deadlocks if I run dovecot over nfs

Newbie: unable to access mailbox more than once
Hello,
I'm using dovecot as a mail relay so that I can back up my providers
IMAP mail locally. I'm impressed how easy this was to set up, but I'm
having a quirk that I would like help with, if possible.
There are many weak links in my set-up chain, if you will, but I think
I've narrowed the problem. I'll describe my set-up anyway. I'm running

Lock file issues
First off, just want to say Dovecot is great! We have been using it for
several months now in a fairly large installation with only a few
problems.
We are running 1.0.rc28 on three servers with 3 Horde/IMP boxes talking
to Dovecot. The user's home dirs are located on an NFS server
and the indexes are stored in their Maildirs. I have mmap_disable=yes
and lock_method=dotlock in dovecot.conf.

netapp/maildir/dovecot performance
We are seeing some poor performance recently that is focused around
users with large mailboxes (100,000 message /INBOX, 80,000 message
subfolders, etc).
The performance problem manifests as very high system% utilization -
basically iowait for NFS.
There are two imap servers with plenty of horsepower/memory/etc. They
are connected to a 3050c cluster via gig-e. Here are the mount

Mount options and NFS: just checking...
Greetings -
I'm now in the last couple of weeks before going live with Dovecot
(v1.0.3) on our revamped IMAP service. I'd like to double-check
about the best mount options to use; could someone advise, please?
I have three separate directory trees for the message store, the
control files and the index files. These are arranged as follows:

Dovecot strange behaviors on Solaris
Folks -
I've been using Dovecot for some time now, but have only recently upgraded
to 1.0alpha4. I'm struggling to get my configuration right and I'm seeing
some truly bizarre issues.
My Setup: Solaris 2.8 / Thunderbird / Procmail / Dovecot 1.0alpha4
My mail setup is only for me, so Dovecot runs at an odd port and under my
userID. All my mail is in my home directory, which

smbclient using SMB2+ against NetApp OnTap 8.2 anyone ?
So I just spent a frustrating day trying to
get smbclient from 4.2.x and master connecting
to a NetApp 8.2 box using SMB2 or SMB3 with
NTLM auth.
Short answer - it doesn't work :-(. Longer
answer - the NetApp is choking on something
inside the SPNEGO NTLMSSP packets we're sending
it - giving the error that it couldn't parse
the SPNEGO packet.
Unfortunately (and knowing bugger-all

File system permissions - setgid bit and Netapp NFS volumes
Greetings Dovecot List,
I have a bit of an edge case I am trying to resolve. I am currently

I have attached the output of doveconf -n to this email - but to
describe the configuration in a nutshell:

pop3_lock_session and NFS
Hello,
I need an advice about POP3 and NFS with Dovecot 1.0 (as 1.1 is still
tagged beta) .
I currently have all messages and indexes under a NFS partition . I
thus turned cache off using actimeo=0 .
Of course, my current architecture does not allow me to keep the same
user on the same dovecot server.
Now, I have some NFS issues with high percentages of getattr() .
If I understood well, the

Re: set_canon_ace_list: sys_acl_set_file type file failed for file
Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas about trouble shooting the following error
when trying to change folder permissions on a Samba Share
"[2008/01/18 15:59:42, 2] smbd/posix_acls.c:set_canon_ace_list(2480)
set_canon_ace_list: sys_acl_set_file type file failed for file"
We are using Version 3.0.24 on Solaris. The share is on a NetApps
filer which is nfs licensed.
Thanks,
Paul.

extlinux device trouble
Hello,
i'm using version 4.07.
On my computer extlinux does not work.
after debugging, i found the trouble.
in the function parse_mountinfo there was using a function get_string.
in the function get_string there was a line (42) } else if (ch == '\\') {
but in my mountinfo list, there was \ , but not with octal digit.
so the function get_string will fail.

viewing, if not editing, NFSv4 ACL's from Samba shares
Good morning, folks.
I'm involved in a project to enforce NFSv4 ACL's across a variety of
storage platforms, in particular NetApps sharing NFS. That works fiine
with the NetApp NFS qtrees, but we'd like to share those with CIFS
clients as well. This works, and restricts access the way we expect
NFSv4 ACL's to work, but the Windows clients cannot view any of the
security settings

Everything but [Homes] works
I am migrating from my "old" 2.2.7 samba server to a newer server runnig
3.0.20a and everythig is working except the [homes] share. The server
(FILE-CABINET) is a member of the domain, security is set to ADS and, as
far as I can tell, kerberos is working. The program wbinfo returns a
list of users and groups like it should. getent passwd returns first my
local passwd file and then
