Converting from qpopper mbox to dovecot maildir
We have an older mail server using qpopper and the mbox format which we need to update to dovecot and maildir format. I have read through the docs on migrating from mbox to maildir, as well as a few nuggets on how to migrate from qpopper to dovecot, and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on best practices for this specific migration. Would the built in dovecot conversion plugin be a

Is dovecot locking properly?
Hello, I'm attempting to move form qpopper 4.1 to Dovecot 2.2.5 on Linux. When a user checks POP mail qpopper seems to make a .username.pop temporary file in the same /var/mail directory as the mbox INBOX file. Watching what dovecot does I don't see this happening. Is this .pop file a lock file or just a temporary file? If its a temp file does dovecot do the same thing elsewhere?

E-Mail Serving Options
Hi All, What are my e-mail serving options? I need to host POP, IMAP and SMTP. I must admit that non-windows e-mail hosting has always been a chore for me. I remember QMail and QPopper IIRC. -Jason

Confused about what MTA, MDA, IMAP/POP server to use
Hello...I'll TRY make this short. This post is not specific to Dovecot...but many subscribers to this list have probably been down this road. (private replies welcome if you want it to go off list) I currently use Sendmail with MailScanner, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Procmail, and qpopper for POP3 (hash mail dirs for mbox files)on RedHat 9 server. Roaming users currently only have the option of

Migration from pop3 to imapd
Dear list, I am planing to set up dovecot-imapd on my production-mail server which currently only runs pop3 via qpopper on debian-sarge. It would be best, if I could only use imapd and use the existing pop3- server (qpopper) as it is. Is this possible? Can the user both use pop3 (qpopper) and imapd (dovecot) in parallel then? Where does dovecot-imapd store its mails? Does it store its mail in

qpoppers XUIDL
Hello, does anybody know how to make XUIDLs compatible to qpopper? I'm migrating from qpopper and one of my test-migration-accounts leaves the mail on the server. As soon as I switch to dovecot it downloads the mails again and again.. bye! Dominik

qpopper to dovecot migration
Heya, We are in the process of migrating from qpopper to dovecot as POP3 server (and IMAP as well) and we hit the UIDL issue with dovecot. Qpopper uses its own algorithm to create UIDL values and if you set it up to write them down in the mbox file as X-UIDL, then dovecot can use them (pop_uidl_reuse = yes). But if you don't use that feature from qpopper, than X-UIDLs are missing and there

Workstation Limited to NT1 Protocol
When I search for "smb2", I get nothing in my log file for the NT1 limited system. If it is a workstation issue, that would be great. I'll search around for what settings to change. Maybe SMB2 was inadvertently disabled. Thanks for all of your help on this! On Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 3:20 PM, lingpanda101 at gmail.com < lingpanda101 at gmail.com> wrote: > On 4/19/2016 3:11

Early on in the logs, I see this for the NT1 system (no mentions of smb2 anywhere) [2016/04/19 14:48:37.738460, 3, pid=21479, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)] ../source3/smbd/negprot.c:395(reply_nt1) using SPNEGO [2016/04/19 14:48:37.738476, 3,

Migration questions...
Hi All, We are soon to migrate our mail server from one piece of hardware to another and we would like to take this opportunity to optimize things. As a result, we would like to replace "uw-imapd" and "qpopper" with "dovecot". The version we will be installing is 1.1.13-2, as this is what is available through the latest Debian stable backports. We will also be using

Logging options
Hi, is it possible to configure dovecot's logging so it logs stuff like "User x logged in from IP/Host y and had z new messages" like I'm used from qpopper? That immensely helps when debugging PEBKAC issues. Enabling auth_verbose isnt really helpfull since a failed login generates 4 lines, some even without a pid - so it's a bit hard guessing which log entry belongs to

deliver rewrites envelop-sender
Hello, we are currently using sendmail, procmail, uwimap and qpopper. We are planing to replace uwimap and qpopper with dovecot. Which seems to be a very good idea :-) But: Sendmail and Procmail will not be replaced. Now I've realized that deliver rewrites existing "From <....> ..." header lines to ">From <...> ..." and adds it's own "From
