"LDAP: No username in reply" error
Hi All,
I am using the latest Dovecot stable with Fedora Core 4. I am trying to
use it with LDAP, but I am getting the following error in my mail log
when I attempt to check my mail:

Benchmarking
I wasted too much time today doing this, but they do show a few
interesting things:
1) mmap_disable=yes is faster than mmap_disable=no. I didn't expect
this. I'm not yet sure why this is, but possibly because then it updates
the mail index by reading the changes from dovecot.index.log, instead of
reopening and re-mmaping dovecot.index. At least that's the biggest
difference between

Changing pop3_uidl_format
I recently set up an OpenBSD - Dovecot mail server for a client. Naturally
(according to Murphy's Law) they want to use Outlook 2003, pop3s, and leave
messages on the server. And just as naturally, the UIDLs don't seem to be
working, and when they download mail, they get EVERY email stored on the
server, not just the new ones.
Other than switching them over to IMAP, I found the

Postfix + MySQL + IMAP + Squirrelmail + Virtual Domains + Web Management.
Greetings,
I have long read and followed this list. I have also spent a
considerable time with our good friend Google.
I am a long time Sendmail user, about 15 yrs now. I have recently been
looking into the newer services and the Postfix setup seems to be a very
nice one. I am migrating a mail server from 3.x to 4.x and was intending
on trying out Postfix on the 4.x server. I have found

Dovecot first impressions
Hi,
I have only recently become aware of Dovecot and gave it a try. The
previous 0.99.9.1 version didn't work well for me (OpenSSL), I dropped
it, but 0.99.10 has come just in time (saw it on freshmeat) and I
thought I'd give it another try if it promised SSL fixes, and it's sorta
working for me (i. e. it works with mutt, Mozilla, sylpheed, but not
cone -- but cone is beta and has SSL

breakin' dovecot
I know this is cruel, but I figured out a way to break dovecot,
temporarily. The really great news is that it recovers nicely.
I'm also not sure if anything can be done about this, since I've seen
the same thing happen with courier-imap, uw-imap, and maybe cyrus-imap.
I used cyrus-imap for such a short period of time that I didn't get to
really test it much.

pam-mysql and freebsd 4.7
Hi everyone,
I'm using freebsd 4.7 and want to authenticate some services using the
pam-mysql module.
I can authenticate successfully when I use the normal out-of-the-box
methods, but when I try to use the pam-mysql module, I get nothing...
I've got postfix running, and postfix is succesfully using mysql thanks to
it's great usability. But when I want to use Courier IMAP/POP to work

Hi,
I see this in the 1.0-beta7 dovecot-example.conf file:

Cyrus firstname.lastname@domain
I'm converting an environment from mandrake to centos, and always try to
use the applications standard on the distribution. This means a switch
from courier to cyrus.
A bit of reading uncovered a potential problem - the site uses
firstname.lastname at domain, and I have come across references that Cyrus
does not support this. I couldn't find this limitation in the Cyrus

courier IMAP to dovecot migration: folders not showing up
i have been running postfix + courier-imap + cyrus sasl for several
years and have some prior experience with dovecot + postfix and had no
problems. now that i'm trying to convert an existing courier-imap
configuration to dovecot and all the various parts work together (e.g.
mail delivery and dovecot sasl), i cannot get the folder subscription
issue sorted.

Moving from cyrus to dovecot (a story)
The transition was quick, and also (so far) seemingly painless.
The server is an old Pentium II 233 machine that sits between my home
LAN and the internet, and have sitting there, and running night and day
since 1999. For the first two years it was running SuSE linux, but
since 2001 it has been running debian and been continously upgraded. It
was originally installed with potato, but have been

Mea culpa.
That was an inadvertent mess-up on my part; I did not see the headers,

Which imapd?
Hi. What imapd can you recommend for minimum configuration and
maintenance (no Cyrus)? This is for a small shop, so no hard performance
requirements.
I'd prefer one where I don't have to build my own packages (no Courier,
unless packages exist).
Thanks.
