Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there, Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please? I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week, trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows domain but which will also create home directories for users the first time they log in. I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the trick

Winbind & adding users... is `useradd` being called? %u parameter?
Hi there, This is probably a dumb question, so my apologies, but I've set up WinBind on my my Samba box & it seems to be authenticating against the domain, however new user accounts do not seem to be added. `wbinfo -u` returns a list of the users on the domain and I seem to have setup my IMAP server correctly to authenticate against that (using PAM), as I see the following in

Submissions that include an entire previous digest
Colleagues, Today's digest (Volume 94, Issue 12) contained an entire copy of Digest, Vol 94, Issue 11. It appears that an inconsiderate poster (Message 39 in Issue 12) received the digest and clicked reply, thereby including the entire digest in his/her submission (> 6000 additional lines of text). This made it difficult to scroll through the digest efficiently. At minimum, posters

Another numptie question - making maildirs for shared mailboxes.
Hi there, Sorry to have so much trouble with my Dovecot setup & to ask so many questions, but I'm having some problems with shared folders. I've read the thread at <http://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2005-January/006079.html> and added the following lines to /etc/dovecot.conf: namespace private { separator = / prefix = inbox = yes } namespace public {

Disabling index files?
The wiki says: > Each mailbox has its own separate index files. **If the index files are disabled**, the same structures are still kept in the memory, except cache file is disabled completely (because the client probably won't fetch the same data twice within a connection). [1] I tend to grep my maildirs quite often, and use the output to cp emails to other folders, so it's annoying

Migrating maildirs - Courier to Dovecot
I apologise, because I'm sure this subject has been done to death, but I want to migrate from Courier to Dovecot. I think my main question is whether there's any reason I shouldn't just rsync the maildirs across from the old mail server to the new one? There aren't many clients using this server, so I don't care if clients have to redownload all their messages (in fact, I

About Released 1.0 alpha5 version
Hi, I'm woking with dovecot at my work and I would want to upgrade the actual version to Released 1.0 alpha5 version, but when I saw the download section at dovecot home page, I noticed that you have only beta versions available. Because of this, I would want to ask you if since now you only put available beta versions or those of them will be replace for the next alpha version. Thanks for

Strange new mail count
I am having a slight issue with new message count... for some reason, dovecot reports I have some strange number of new messages, even though there are no new messages... If I click on a few of the folders, the new message count seams to correct itself... Any way to solve this?

[PATCH libnbd 2/2] interop: Retry TCP connections to qemu-nbd.
The test interop-qemu-nbd-tls-certs frequently fails on slow (32 bit) machines in Fedora Koji. (Is crypto slow on these already overloaded machines?) As we cannot wait for a signal when qemu-nbd is ready start serving, we have to use a sleep. The current sleep is 5 seconds, which is not long enough. Making the sleep longer would work but is inconsiderate for people using faster machines.

man page
Hi, I've found this in the man page for rsync: "To backup my wife’s home directory, which consists of large MS Word files and mail folders, I use a cron job that runs ...". I believe it's very inappropriate and inconsiderate to mention Microsoft products unless it's really necessary. I'm mostly concerned with the fact that this careless usage not only gives them more

Problems restoring from dump
Hello all, First, the vital stats: FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE, dovecot 1.0.rc7 from ports. I have run into a vexing little problem that has brought my deployment of a shiny new dovecot server to a screeching halt. Using 'periodic' I've configured regular backups to occur using 'dump'. I have a monthly level 0, a weekly level 4, and a daily level 8. These dumps take advantage of

Best way to do simple Samba for very small office.
Hi there, My experience: I've used Samba on a couple of servers at home in which security isn't an issue, and I've used WinBind & PAM to authenticate a Linux mailserver from a Windows domain. I'm quite confident about installing Samba & setting up simple shares, I can follow a howto & even do advanced trouble-shooting but I have no experience with many of the

A request from the CentOS Project
The CentOS Project seems to be having a problem within some of our community interactive areas that we need to address. As most of you know, the project provides CentOS software free of charge and we also provide community areas like a Wiki, Mailing Lists, IRC Channels and Fora for our users to interact with one another and allow the CentOS community to provide support for each other. There are

Quota plugin and SQL
I have read through http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota/Dict, which suggests a database schema for using quota. For 1.2, this includes a username, bytes and messages. Is there any way to modify the queries used to split out username into localpart and domain? This would enable me to put the current quota information in my main mailbox table and display it to users in my admin interface. Or
