Upgrading from 0.99 to 1.0alpha
Since FreeBSD has decided to drop Dovecot 0.99 and only provide a port for 1.0alpha4, what are the considerations for upgrading from 0.99.14 to 1.0a4? IMAP can't read inbox: istream_raw_mbox_get_body_size assertion failed
Yesterday, I upgraded my debian packages from 0.99.14 to 0.99.20050712-2. IMAP service has not been reliable since, and I was seeing crashes with one user. I tried deleting the user's .subscriptions and .imap folders, and forcing the client (Mac OS X's Mail.app) to redownload everything, but that resulted in an empty inbox. Here's what I have: # dpkg -l dovecot*

Outlook Express / Namespaces
Hi, I'm planning to switch from courier-imap to dovecot. Everythings seems fine. I adjust the namespaces to avoid client side changes. This works with Thunderbird, but Outlook Express seems to have problmes with the path "INBOX.", that I've configured in the client settings. I can remove that path, but the folders will be sorted under the inbox. Is there something that I've

Message size incorrect?
Hi there, I recently installed a plugin for SquirelMail (php imap client, squirrelmail.org) which adds up message sizes per folder to display a nice total size of each subscribed folder. After consulting the plugin maintainers at SquirrelMail in this thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.mail.squirrelmail.plugins/12468/focus=12468 There is quite a discrepancy in the rfc822.size reported by

string comparison functions
Hi, What rules are used when Wine libraries compare Unicode strings? I need to know when ascii characters can match their approximate Unicode equivalents. For example: 'U+1D49 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL E' matches 'U+0065 LATIN SMALL LETTER E' I am debugging IE javascript security issues. IE6 on Wine (Linux Debian) matches more equivalents than IE6 on Win98 and WinXP. -- Tomas

Migrating from mbox to maildir, which converter is compatible with dovecot
Hi, I'm testing/debuging the migration from mbox to maildir in a mailserver running Dovecot 1.0alpha5. I migrated all 472715 emails(in a test server) and later noted that dovecot could not get the same flags/status of the emails as in the mbox. I was using perfect_maildir.pl and I think its not dovecot fault. Seems to me that perfect_maildir.pl convert the emails in a way that dovecot could

1.0alpha1: too many open files
Help... Dovecot 1.0alpha1 hung up today with nothing working and the following spewing to my syslog: pipe() failed: Too many open files My setup: Solaris 9, just using imap, mbox format. The various "max" settings in dovecot.conf use the defaults. Suggestions on what to change in fovecot.conf to keep this from happening? Jeff Earickson Colby College

assertion problems w/ 1.0alpha4
Hey list, I have been using 0.99.14 for a while now but recently decided to try to upgrade to 1.0alpha4 to get the latest and greatest. I'm building from source myself on a Slackware 10.0 machine. Slackware ships with UW-IMAP configured to keep your inbox in /var/spool/mail and your other folders in ~/. I've been using the same setup for dovecot so that the migration is

1.0alpha1: stack frame core
Hi, Today's core dump from 1.0alpha1 came from a syslog message of: IMAP(user): pool_data_stack_realloc(): stack frame changed gdb info on the resulting core dump attached. Question: how many people are building/using dovecot 1.0alpha1 with gcc 4.0.1 versus gcc 3.4.x? I am wondering if these issues come from the compiler instead of dovecot itself? up-to-date debian packages?
The debian (unstable) libtheora and libogg packages are a little out of date. I was wondering if anybody had made their own packages for libogg-1.1.1 and libtheora-1.0alpha4. If not, I'll go ahead and package them up and put them up on my own debian repository or something, and let you guys know where to get them. But if somebody has already done that, let me know. thanks, Tim

1.0alpha4 uploaded to Debian unstable
I finally got some free time and uploaded 1.0alpha4. It will arrive in the archive by tomorrow afternoon. Together with the most recent libssl0.9.8 upgrade I think this will fix the SSL problems users have been facing. -- Jaldhar H. 1.0alpha1: corrupted cache file complaints?
Hi, I have seen the following in my syslogs for 1.0alpha1: Corrupted index cache file [filename]: record points outside file and : indexid changed : record list is circular : Cache record offset 9772 points outside file : invalid record size Are these errors minor? Major? Self-healing? Should the cache files be blown away to fix these errors? Jeff Earickson Colby College
