Dell PE 6850 with CentOS-3
Hi list, I'm seeing problems when probing cdrom and floppy devices on a Dell PowerEdge 6850 (4x3.16GHz, 16GB RAM) with CentOS-3.4 using 2.4.21-27.0.4.ELhugemem. When I run snmpwalk the system hangs with 100% wait on all 8 cpu's (in HyperThreading mode) for approx 20s before it goes back to idle state. Same thing if I open/probe any of the cdrom/floppy devices in other ways also. If I

CentOS4 u4 - Dell PE 1950 - SAN/NAS High Load
Hi I have a pair of 1950's running as a failover pair of front ends for a Fibre array and a SCSI array. i am currently just running on the SCSI array and the fibre is not in production yet. I am seeing load on the active node sit at around 8 and throughput to the SCSI array is around 25MB/s - I would imagine i should see better figures that this and less machine load. Can anyone give

smartest way to setup new system (DELL PE 4600)
Hi all, One of our servers (very old) died last week and I'm setting up a new CentOS 5.1 box to replace it. Primarily used as a samba fileshare on a mostly windows-workstation network. This system will, ideally, have the OS on a 146 GB SCSI drive, with user data on a 300GB SCSI, both attached to the backplane of the 4600. My question is this: What's best practice and most desirable

how do I manage a Dell PE 860 server via IPMI?
Hi all I'm trying to get to grips with this one, but just can't figure it out. I recently acquired some 2nd hand Dell Poweredge 860 servers, and noticed that they have built in remote management interfaces. So, I have setup one, and assigned an IP address to it, but have no idea on how to access it remotely. Google'ing for an answer didn't bring me more than general product

Kernel panic with kernel 2.6.16-xen3_86.1 in a Dell PE 1850
Hi, I''m getting a kernel panic when booting a Dell PowerEdge 1850 with kernel 2.6.16-xen3_86.1 which I installed from the xen-3.0-x86_32-rhel4.1.bin.tar package I got from XenSource. My /boot/grub/grub.conf configuration is this: title Xen (2.6.16-xen3_86.1) root (hd0,0) kernel /xen-3.gz com1=115200,8n1 noreboot module /vmlinuz-2.6.16-xen3_86.1_rhel4.1

CentOS 4.4 on Dell PE 6400 - not rebooting ...
Hi All, This is my first post ... I *HAD* been trying to get RHEL AS 4 onto this Dell PE 6400/700, but it just wouldn't go without some weird tweaking. I am VERY happy to say that CentOS 4.4 installed without a hitch! NICELY done folks! The only real issue for me is that the machine fails to reboot or shutdown correctly. It requires physical interaction with the power switch,

Exciting news about cAos & CentOS - Please read
I have the great pleasure to announce that the cAos Foundation has been given the right to an exhibitor booth at the upcoming LinuxWorld Expo in Boston, Massachusetts from February 15th - 17th. (More info here: http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/live/12/events/12BOS05A). This is a awesome opportunity to further cAos and CentOS linux. But I do not feel that we should give 1/2 an effort. I feel that

PE disassembler for unix
Hello, I'm looking for a disassembler to examine a malicious Win32 binary on FreeBSD. Does anybody have any favourites? I see pedisassem in ports, but it looks to be broken and unmaintained (it crashes with a floating point error, currently). MC

Nodes not showing up under 'Live Management' on fresh install of PE 2.7
I''m racking my brain here. Fresh install of PE 2.7. After pushing mcollective to the clients I do not see the nodes showing up under ''live management''. All the necessary ports are open on the server and clients, the pe-mcollective daemon is running, but nothing shows up in live management. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. -- You received this

PE and VMWare Question
I am working toward pitching a move from Open Source Puppet to Puppet Enterprise. One of the driving points is that Where-I-Work has just made a huge investment in hardware/software in the form of a VMWare "local cloud". In trying to figure out how to plug my current Puppet setup into it, I keep hitting references to middleware tools like "vSphere CLI for Linux" and

Script for deploying a new PE 2.0 VM with VMWare.
Hi all, I''ve created a script to glue together several parts of Puppet Enterprise 2.0. It enables me to deploy a server by simply creating a DNS record and starting this script. This script: - Clones a VMWare template - Configures the network - Installs the Puppet-client on the new machine - Stops and starts the new machine if it is on the default network (LAN) The script

PE Install Question (Master/Console together, separate PuppetDB)
Hi, Has anyone successfully performed this scenario? I''m installing Puppet Enterprise 3.1, and want to have the Console service running on the Puppet Master. However, I want to have the PuppetDB service on another server. It seems like the installer either puts all of the services on one host, or separate out to three hosts. I saw this discussed in

Most efficient way of pxe booting windows pe
Hi guys, We are using syslinux (memdisk) and gpxe already for a while. Also got a working winpe boot method by means of pxe. Which basicly is a dd of an 'recovery partition' where winpe.wim is on. That method isn't really the most efficient way, cause its loaded into memory twice. We are going to do a major windows 7 deployment soon and i'm looking for the most efficient way of
