POP3 Performance
Hi,
We actually have a mail hosting solutions with aprox. 100 thousand
of email account, where about 90% of a customers use POP3 like email
configuration. About a few mounths (we perfomed a lot of migration
throught mbox email software to Maildir with dovecot) but i can see that
the performance is very poor and receive complaint about delays of
autentications of accounts.
The solution

POP does not seem to be working
OK, I am brand new to this so please bear with me.
I have an FreeBSD 6.1 STABLE system. Postfix is installed with qpopper.
The mailboxes are standard mbox format.
I just installed Dovecot. At some point I want to update to a mdir
format, etc., but quite frankly I do not know how to go about that. In
any case, I shut down qpopper and started Dovecot. I modified the

XUIDL Migration problems
Hello All,
I am new to Dovecot and the Dovecot mailing list.
I am trying to migrate an existing Exim + qpopper - mbox (pop3 only) installation over to Exim + Dovecot using mdir (pop3 and imap)
And am running into problems with preserving the XUIDL headers.
I am running Dovecot 2.0.14
I have used the mb2md.pl script : http://dovecot.org/tools/mb2md.pl from this page

mbox vs. maildir storage block waste
Hi.
I recently mentioned in several posts, that I'd tended to use mbox
rather than maildir, because you don't loose so much space (due to
always allocating full blocks per maildir file and thus per mail).
I made some tests of my archive, which consists of some 3,4 million
mails at a total of 42GB). Most of these mails are probably normal
sized, but there are also some with bigger

Bug or feature? --delete-after + symlinks
Hi,
sorry if this is old stuff, but I did my best to look first...
Have been getting errors along these lines:
mv mydir mdir.2002
ln -s mydir.2002 mydir
Then update mirror with rsync -av --delete-after. Without
--delete-after, no problem, with --delete-after, get a code 23.
The attached shell script will recreate the error (on my machine, at
any rate). Just run it from a clean directory.

Virgin Radio Classic Rock now in Ogg too
Firstly, please excuse the crosspost to both the icecast and vorbis lists,
and the slightly commercial nature of this post.
Virgin Radio Classic Rock, which is a sister station to Virgin Radio, is now
also available in streaming Ogg Vorbis. We also have 'now playing'
information working on both services.

Prototype/Virgin objects => usable objects, aka default db rows => custom db rows
Hellos,
I''m kinda stumped, so hopefully someone can help me out.
I have a custom_modules table, in which I''ve defined default modules
for a skinnable website I''m designing. Those modules have default
values, such as css class, position (left/right) and so on.
When a user registers with the site, he gets a fresh new Template
object, which has_many :custom_modules.

All,
Apologies for the simplicity of the problem but getting started with
InstantRails.
Does anyone have any experience of setup in this way?

Maildirmake equiv?
Since I am using dovecot I do not have courier installed, but Courier had a very handy tool for making maildir folders called `maildirmake` which I used in some automated backup scripts. How do I duplicate maildirmake in dovecot?
for example:
#!/bin/bash
# v1.2a Testing for new dovecot install
# Archive mail from folders without [0-9]{4} Maildirs
# after they are 21 days old to a yearly folder

"virgin" mail accounts
Hello,
I'm willing to swear that with the 0.99.10.4 Debian package in my
rather extensive tests with mailbox format dovecot created not only
any missing parental directories but also the INBOX file, but the
later I can't prove/test now as I upgraded all respective boxes.
However 0.99.10.5 will still create (if needed and possible) missing
directories for mbox storage, just not an

Virgin Radio now on ices2 - yp not working though
This afternoon I've transferred our Ogg Vorbis Icecast2 streams from darkice
to the ices2 encoder. Apologies if you were trying to listen; I had to stop
and start the streams a few times. They should be stable now as I'm off down
the pub now! As a reminder, the URL for the streams is at
http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html.
Ices2 takes slightly different parameters to

Virgin Radio launches an Ogg stream
Apologies if this is a bit of a commercial post (I've not been lurking
long), but you might like to know that the world's most listened-to online
radio station has just launched an Ogg stream. (As of today!)
http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html
(or alternatively www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen from a non MSIE+PC
browser).
Any ideas you have to help promote this

floppy drives
Yes, really. I've got hundreds of the damn things here at home, and I
want to go through them and get rid of them all.
But... to do that I want to read them. I have both a 5.25" and a 3.5"
drive, both are plugged in, but in the BIOS, all I see is the 3.5".
Fine, I figure I'll take care of those.
Nope. I see /dev/fd0 once I've booted up, but neither konqueror nor

Hang up detection with TDM400P and Telewest/Virgin Media line
Folks,
I've seen a few reports that people have had problems with hang up
detection on UK cable phone lines. I have a TDM400P with two FXO ports,
one connected to my BT line and the other connected to my
Telewest/Virgin Media cable line. If I ring the BT line and then clear
down, Asterisk detects this and acts accordingly. If I ring the
Telewest line, the clear down is not detected, hence

I added a "SQ and Dovecot FAQ" on the SQ website
On the Squirrelmail website I setup in the FAQ a quick install guid on how
to get squirrelmail to work with Dovecot. Maybe someone can verify my
setup procedure really quick. Maybe someone thinks this is wrong. Also if
you have something to add please do so. No one has bothered to do this
before so I took it upon my self.
Here is the link in the FAQ its about 8 lines down
