Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?
Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of
converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving
from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing
about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox
does not support subfolders which some people like to
use.
Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to
each individual account and "manually" convert swaping
data

Converting from MBOX to Maildir broke procmail and Spamassasin and halted incoming mail
I could use some help here -
As I use Dovecot I started here when trying to figure out why I could
not add new mail folders under my Mac's Mail program, but could under
Thunderbird.
It was quickly pointed out that my system was set up to use MBOX and
not MAILDIR, and some helpful links and notes were sent back and forth
giving me a good clue as to how to perform the conversion

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi,
I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store
INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox.
I've tried something like
default_mail_env =
mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user
but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox).
I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on
nicely-mirrored NetApp

INBOX as either mbox or Maildir
In Dovecot 0.99, I recall somewhere I read it was possible for INBOX to
be both a Maildir and an mbox in the same configuration (either
automatically detected, or depending on the existence in a different
location). Perhaps I was wrong, I'm not sure.
Any way, I now became interested in this sort of setup:
Most users have their spool an mbox in /var/mail/<username>, and then
they

mbox to maildir converter ... There are a few perl scripts which could
do this ... But I like the idea of mbox to maildir in dovecot ... But I
wonder if that is the right place to put it ...

How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?
I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on
Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc.
I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set:
sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/'
Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf
I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username)
during the time

Advice on converting from Mbox to Maildir?
Does anyone have advice or pointers on good documentation on how to
convert a system from using the Mbox format to using Maildir?
I recently upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1 and discovered
that UW-IMAP was gone. So I switched over to using Dovecot. So far so
good.
But I would like to convert my system to start using the Maildir format.
How easy is this to accomplish?
Can I keep

Convert from mbox to Maildir
Hello everybody,
I am in the process to install dovecot as an IMAP server.
Currently, this system runs postfix and uses procmail for local (mbox
style) delivery.
Procmail ist started by postfix like this:
/etc/postfix/main.cf:
mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail
~/.forward:
"|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 # jw"

Staged migration from mbox to maildir
So much changes in this migration that the ideal way to do it would be
to begin with a few users or a department, then migrate the users
affinity group by affinity group: first an institute or so, then the
faculty, then the staff, then the students, moving to bigger and bigger
groupings as the bugs work out of the migration and the move becomes
more assured.
We use sendmail and procmail.

Using procmail with virtual users...
Hello all,
I've a working dovecot installation on my machine, using exim3, virtual
users and maildirs.
I would like to add procmailrc rules for these (virtual) users, but i've not
succeeded with that.
The authentication is done with a passwd-file looking like this :
testuser:password:uid:gid::/home/mail/testuser::chroot:maildir:/home/mail/testuser/Maildir/
i've put .procmailrc files

mbox to Maildir conversion
I've been running a mbox solution using UW's IMAP server. I've run it
for years.
Now do to heavy message volumes, I've decided to to take the plunge to
convert to the Maildir format.
I am currently testing a single user, and have successfully converted
the mail messages from mbox to Maildir format, and now I am setting up
the procmail tool to place the messages into the correct

newbie questions
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. Since a system
administrator's work is most successful when nobody knows you've done
anything....(ugly that...you get neither raises nor equipment funding as
a result), I prefer to learn from other's experiences rather than fail
in the same pits.
We are considering a switch from UW to Dovecot, since our users persist

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All,
I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u
and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This
is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64.
I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate
namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried :
default_mail_env =

Configuring mbox and maildir formats - dovecot-1.2.15
I am transitioning an existing server from using exclusively mbox, to
being able to support both mbox and then fully maildir formats.
I need to support the mbox format until I can get everyone switched over
to maildir.
What do I need to to use in the config of /etc/dovecot.conf to support
the default of mbox, and then the new Maildir format (users will get
upgraded individually from mbox to

change inbox dotlock name
Hi,
Is there a configuration element that would allow me to change the
dot-lock name for the user's /var/mail inbox when it is locked? dovecot
(correctly) acquires <username>.lock, but I'm having a problem with
procmail where some obscure code path is preventing procmail's
acquisition of a lock when it's that default name in /var/mail.
The issue is not permissions

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi,
replying to my own issue:
The dsync crash seems to be triggered when there are emails to copy in
both directions, and it's fairly clear from comments in the code that
it should be releasing a read lock before trying to grab a write lock.
A work-around for the crash was doing a one-way sync manually. This
allowed the process to complete and my setup is now replicating
properly. I guess

Migrating mbox to maildir
Sorry to bother everyone but I was wondering if it is possible for
Dovecot to handle mbox AND maildir at the same time?
Example:
I want to convert from UW Imap using mbox to Dovecot using maildir.
Do I need to convert ALL my users mbox mailboxes to maildir right away
or can I convert them one at a time?
I'd like to use maildir with all my new users, but I'd like to be able

Dovecot, Shared Mailboxes (via symlink), and ACLs
Hello! I just joined the list and will be happy to help where I can in
my limited experience, but also come to the table with a question. I
think there's something I'm missing regarding shared mailboxes and ACLs,
so I will describe my situation and see if I am understanding correctly
(running Dovecot 1.1.10). I have read over the Dovecot Wiki many times
and have scoured many forums but

I?ve installed a new Server with dovecot, started using it and had no

now that instead of using mbox I need to user maildir, the issue is now to
convert mbox to maildir, on the various searches I did, I found the convert

OT: Run Sieve On A Mailbox Manually
(Apologies for being offtopic.)
The subject basically says it all...does anyone know of a tool to run
a sieve script on a mailbox (in particular, Maildirs) manually?
Ideally, I'd like to do it without adding a bunch of new headers to
the mail.
So, could I just do a find (or for-loop, if it was just one maildir)
command and pipe all the mails into deliver..?
Thanks,
Neil.
