How to check for keywords in IMAP store?
Hello, I'm checking my way to migrate from Courier to Dovecot. Wiki says that "there's currently no easy way to migrate them [the keywords]". Frankly, I lack the information to check if some client is using keywords at all. More importantly, is it OK to assume that when SELECT INBOX returns no \* in OK [PERMANENTFLAGS ...] that the IMAP server does not allow keywords at

PLAIN-MD5 passwords?
After I found out that {CRYPT} doesn't support passwords longer than 8 characters, I decided to switch over to MD5 for user passwords in my LDAP database. However, while I have no problem with Postfix + SASL, Dovecot fails to authenticate. Relevant bits from /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf: user_attrs = mailAddress,,,,, # The search string is identical to what's found in /etc/saslauthd.conf:

Postfix + MySQL + IMAP + Squirrelmail + Virtual Domains + Web Management.
Greetings, I have long read and followed this list. I have also spent a considerable time with our good friend Google. I am a long time Sendmail user, about 15 yrs now. I have recently been looking into the newer services and the Postfix setup seems to be a very nice one. I am migrating a mail server from 3.x to 4.x and was intending on trying out Postfix on the 4.x server. I have found

Nested folders
hello, I know this is a question that has probably been answered before but I have searched for the answer and am yet to find it. I am running dovecot under fedora core 2 and cannot figure out where I set it so that users can create nested folders. At the moment they can only create one subfolder in most mail clients. however if using squirrelmail they can create nested folders but the folder

A short description on how I did this can be found at my web page: http://www.sm6rpz.se/mailserver.html I use Fedora Core 2, but I do not think that will matter, it should work for SuSE also I think. Migrating from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot
Hi! I'm currently trying to migrate from courier-imapd to dovecot... Unfortunately I'm experiences some difficulties here... Since I don't want any user to notice the change of the server backend I've tried changing the namespace in dovecot.conf to namespace private { separator = . location = maildir:~/Maildir prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes

mutt and dovecot
Hi, I setup squirrelmail with dovecot and everything worked. I moved users Maildir directores to ~/Maildir/INBOX.directory/ and updated the .subscriptions file to something like ^INBOX.directory squirrelmail picks this up, but I can't seem to get mutt to read this style. In fact I would have assumed that dovecot would read ~/Maildir/ as INBOX and everything under it as it stands, without

Compiling dovecot on SuSE 9
Again I am asking for some help to compile and configure dovecot on SuSE 9. I have configured and compiled it as per the instructions and no errors or problems. When I try to run dovecot from the command line it does not complain or give me any errors. The daemon starts and dies almost immediately. Do I need to compile differently? What can I do to see what is the problem. I was asked to run

Squirrelmail + Dovecot + Maildir
I have been struggling with getting my Fedora 7 box set up to use dovecot with Squirrelmail and Maildir. It works correctly with the exception of writing outgoing mail to the right folder (.Sent) or drafts (.Drafts). If I send a mail with Mutt, it writes the mail to the right place, so it has to be squirrelmail config or dovecot config. I want to use .Sent for sent-mail (~user/Maildir/.Sent) and

courier to dovecot migration
I have a quite old home server based on Debian 6.x packages using courier imap server (exim4, fetchmail, courier, apache2, squirrelmail) to keep my and my wife emails (about 25G). I want renew my server to Debian 10 (buster) and got a recommendation to use dovecot instead of courier. For this purpose I'm using a different PC as a sandbox. Debian 10 currently offer dovecot version 2.3.4.1

pop vs. imap inconsistancy
I am converting from courier and have noticed change in behaviour with Dovecot. I use maildirs with squirrelmail connecting by imap as well as a POP3 client. Courier would set the 'mail status-read' flag for any message which was downloaded with the POP3 interface. Dovecot apparently does not. Is this a bug or intended behaviour? If it is intentional, can it be changed with the config

shared authentication
whats the recommended way to share a user auth info between dovecot and postfix? sasldb seems like it could work but nobody really seems to like using the giant mass that is sasl. i also cant find any information on actually getting dovecot to use sasl past the configure options. i looked at timo's patch for postfix to use dovecot-auth but it doesnt apply correctly on the 2.1 branch.
