Debian dovecot news
I uploaded 0.99.10.6 to sid. Owing to the importance of the dot lock fix,
I've tried to have this pushed to sarge quickly. Let's see how that goes.
I've prepared a backport of 0.99.10.6 to woody which should be showing up
on www.backports.org soon hopefully. In the meantime, if you desperately
need it and don't mind working out dependencies yourself, you can find it

Trouble with password scheme module
Hi, all.
About two and a half years ago, I wrote a hack to add an additional
MD5-based password scheme to Dovecot, but I wrote it as a hack to
src/auth/password_scheme.c since it was relatively easy to do, and I
needed to get a machine running since the machine I was replacing, a Sun
Ultra 5 running Post.Office, had dying hard drives.
Now, I'm actually sitting down and adapting it as a

DCC transfers don't work, but IRC works
Hi!
Already searched for it and asked in IRC channel but all replies talk
about ip_conntrack_irc and ip_nat_irc.
I have a rule in 'NEW' section of 'shorewall/rules' to irc:
ACCEPT fw net tcp 6667 #IRC
and 'lsmod|grep irc' shows:
ip_nat_irc 3648 0
ip_nat 22572 8 [...]

Debugging password schemes
Hi, all.
I managed to get my new password scheme routine written, but a couple of
things:
1. The example module lacks an init routine. Since I used it as a
model, my module also lacks one. As such, my newly-built module is seen
but not registered. In the meantime, I moved the routines into
password-scheme.c instead where I had access to all the MD5 routines
already set up for me.

Adding new password schemes?
Hi, all.
I was curious how difficult it would be to add a new password scheme to
Dovecot? I have to transplant mailboxes from one machine to another,
the older machine running Post.Office from now-defunct Software.Com,
which was bought by OpenWave, then discontinued. Apparently, Netscape's
mailserver offering from the day also supports this scheme. There's
code out there that was

Password scheme module thoughts?
Hi, all.
I have successfully deployed the code I wrote to handle Post.Office
password hashes. However, I had to implement it as a hack to
password-scheme.c. I'd like to implement it as a module so I don't have
to hack Dovecot whenever a new release comes out. However, I had a few
thoughts:
1. I used Dovecot's own MD5 routines in my implementation because I
know how they

Defined function and classes
Hi all
I am using the defined function and it seems to work for resource types
but fails with classes - I am setting a variable like so:
$test = defined(Class[testing])
The test always returns false. Similarly defined functions for resource
types like:
$testtype = defined(File[test])
Return true.
Is there something I am missing?
Thanks

SSH recovery console
Hello,
Is there available to create ssh recovery console except vnc console,
that is default by libvirt.
For example connect to kvm at host:2220 and go to first console
For example like here

<source mode="bind" host="127.0.0.1" service="2445"/>
<protocol type="telnet"/>

observations/qestions of mbox concurrency ability (Yay!) on current CVS
Hi, all.
Just been testing out the latest "CVS" (in quotes because I'm rsyncing
the source
tree) versions of Dovecot lately.
Tested having Pine on the machine on which Dovecot was running, talking
IMAP, as well as another Pine instance, this time from my Windows machine
over the wire. Things seem to be working wonderfully. Deleted a message
using one instance, then refreshed the

Torture tests
Hi, all.
I've been so impressed with Dovecot, I'm in the process of moving my mail
over to it. In fact, one of my mailboxes got SO huge, it'll likely
literally take more than a day to move it all over (in excess of 19,000
mails, about 140 megabytes).
So far, the IMAP server shows absolutely no sign of crapping out yet.
It should also be noted that I'm moving all this mail

Migrating from mbox to maildir: Message ordering?
Hi, all.
I have been playing with the notion of migrating some of my folders to
maildir because it's a lot easier to manage that way from a reader
standpoint. The big question I have is how do I maintain message
ordering in each folder?
When I use a mail program to do the migration from mbox to maildir,
selecting "order received ascending", it works nicely, but one very

How to select the scale parameter for Gabor transform (Rwave)?
Dear list,
I am trying to choose the scale parameter for the cgt transform but I don't
know how to do it. In time I would like to be able to separate points 30
samples apart, and in frequency I would like to separate bands 0.04 Hz
apart. I tried the two approaches described below and they gave me
different results. I would appreciate advise on how to do this.
The Rwave Gabor transform uses

Phantom message using mixed namespaces
Hi, all.
At home, I have a mailbox where mbox is the default (for inbox and some
smaller mailboxes) and all my lists are in a Maildir format.
I'm building a mailstore server at work where I want to use Maildir as
the default mailstore, but I want to keep mbox on the side to aid in
archiving messages.
My configs are as follows for mail location and namespaces:

Suppose I am upgrading a package foo-1.0 to foo-2.0 (assume foo is not
relocatable), and both packages have %preun sections in their .spec files.
It appears that foo-1.0's %preun is run after foo-2.0 has been installed.
So what happens if foo-1.0 needs to run a binary that was provided as part
of foo-1.0 during its %preun stage, and a binary of the same name is

Another release: Valin 3.0 is out!
I would like to announce the release of Valin 3.0. The release "party"
occurred on 16 December, but was restricted to only the two core
developers and the release managers. The features are similar to the
original Valin 2.0 release (which has evolved significantly since then),
including:
- 3.1 kg birth weight
- 48 cm height (more like the length in practice)
- Pretty face

Congratulations and a question
Congratulations on inclusion in the Real Helix thing. :-)
I do have a question, however. While I am very impressed by Vorbis 1.0's
quality even down to "-1", vorbis seems very much a VBR format, which is
great if the file lives on your hard drive, but a mixed bag for streaming
over a modem connection. How well does Vorbis compare to existing streaming
formats, including

[LLVMdev] LLVM benchmarks against GCC
Hi all,
i was thinking that this question was not good
right after relese 1.0, but now perhaps it is OK...
if not, then I am sorry.
So, what about current status of benchmarks?
I mean comparison to gcc.
I have looked at

Unfortunatelly graphs lines are hardly for human eye,
but tables are OK.
I give my own interpretation for April 26, 2004
