possible bug in 1.0-test62
When connecting with mutt via IMAPS, I get "connection to server closed"
and this appears in logs:
dovecot: Feb 04 12:48:30 Error: IMAP(rathann): file mail-index-sync-ext.c: line 118: assertion failed: (size <= synch_size)
The problem goes away after deleting the index from ~/Mail/.imap/INBOX.
We're running 1.0-test62 on Solaris 9.

aha! (was apple mail vs. v0.99)
it seems that when you say "check for new mail" in apple mail, it sends
a NOOP to the imap server to get the response. in uw, the conversation
is something like:
25 NOOP
25 OK NOOP completed
26 NOOP
* 2796 EXISTS
* 7 RECENT
26 OK NOOP completed
however, with dovecot, if it has already notified the client that new
mail has arrived, it will look something like:
* 24 EXISTS
* 2 RECENT

Authentication to Active Directory
Has anybody managed to have Dovecot authenticate to Microsoft Active
Directory?
I've tried to get it to work using LDAP and the following settings
dovecot.conf:
userdb = ldap /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf
passdb = ldap /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf
dovecot-ldap.conf:
hosts = rdg-home.ad.rdg.ac.uk
dn = cn=bind-user,cn=users,dc=rdg-home,dc=ad,dc=rdg,dc=ac,dc=uk
dnpass = XXXXX
ldap_version = 2

Dovecot vs.Clients - strange behaviour, diagnostics sought
I've been experimenting with dovecot-1.0-stable on Solaris. Storage format
is mbox. Dovecot, in test, runs in parallel with an UW IMAP, with dovecot
running SSL-only on port 994.
It seems to work to some extent:
* dovecot runs
* authentication works
* SSL works
* all manual IMAP functionality checks seem to work fine
However, I'm running into issues with IMAP clients.

Dovecot connection error because of the desynchronization between a index file and it's log file
Today, i lost connection with the mail server.
I think that there are some problem with the index file and it's log file.
Following is the log for losing connection.
Sep 10 11:18:01 biosoft dovecot: POP3(hjnam): Transaction log file
/home/hjnam/mail/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index.log: marked corrupted
Sep 10 11:18:01 biosoft dovecot: POP3(hjnam): Fixed index file

dovecot test62 vs test64
Greetings:
I've been using Dovecot 1.0-test62. It has been working well. I
tried to upgrade to 1.0-test64 but users could not authenticate.
Both versions I compiled with:
./configure --with-ssl=openssl; make; make install
They compiled and installed fine. The /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf needed
to be modified due to the new syntax. 1.0-test64 with the new
dovecot.conf didn't work.

Nothing big, just random fixes.
- Crashfixes in keyword code
- -std=gnu99 wasn't working well in all systems, configure now checks
for it
- FreeBSD sendfile() calling was broken sometimes. No need to remove
#define HAVE_FREEBSD_SENDFILE anymore.
- FETCH BODY[] wasn't setting \Seen flag.
- LDAP fixes (by Kazuo Moriwaka)
- Don't crash if client

i noticed this while browsing through my maillog..
Feb 21 11:27:43 selenium dovecot: IMAP(ben): Corrupted index cache file /u/home/ben/Maildir/.INBOX.ML-SunHELP.rescue/dovecot.index.cache: field index too large (3337 >= 22)
i have no problems reading that box after this, and see no other messages

1.0alpha1: another imap core, no assert
Timo,
Output of gdb session on the core file attached. This
one only produced the following syslog:
IMAP(user): UIDs broken with partial sync in mbox file /var/mail/r/user
with no assert. Setup: Solaris 9, gcc 4.0.1 for dovecot build.

corruption and errors in dovecot-stable
Hi,
We switched from dovecot 0.99.something to 1.0-stable (on FreeBSD 4.10)
a few days ago and have been seeing many errors and one corrupted
mailbox so far. Almost everyone uses mbox format, and most users
primarily use SquirrelMail; I use Apple Mail and Thunderbird, as well
as accessing the mailboxes locally with Mutt, and have not noted any
visible problems.
There have been several of

imap segfault in mail-index-sync.c
Our support team seems to have caused another crash.
They treat this mailbox like a shared one, so there may be a few people
accessing it at once. They are mostly using dovecot, but some could be
using uw-imap. These are the only two ways that this box is accessed.
I know that this doesn't really work with mbox, but it doesn't appear
to corrupt the mailbox. It seems to be a good stress

beta8: cores on corrupted index file
Timo,
I saw a couple of these cores over the weekend. The syslog says:
May 21 19:04:48 emerald dovecot: [ID 107833 mail.error] IMAP(user): Corrupted index cache file /home/students/s/user/.imap/sent-mail-apr-2004/dovecot.index.cache: indexid changed
With a resulting core file from imap at this time. I also discovered
a remaining lock file on the person's imap file:

Debugging test72
When attempting to save a message from the INBOX to a folder in a
collection (like, .projects.dovecot), I get behavior like this (in
GDB). Any clue what might be going wrong?
Here's where a SIGABRT happens:
280 return array->buffer->used / array->element_size;
This is the stack trace:

1.0-test66
http://dovecot.org/test/
I've still lots of mails in my INBOX and in this list that I should be
looking into.. But here's a release that fixes at least some things.
Maybe I'll make another one tomorrow..
Most importantly keyword code was changed a lot. It's now faster and
less buggy. The keywords are also finally written into mbox, and keyword
changes in the mbox are picked up.
