CentOS-2 Final finally released
At long last I have uploaded CentOS-2 Final to the centos mirrors :) Some information on CentOS-2 is available here http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/centos-2/index.htm as well as the caos web site. Surely no one will find any bugs or problems, but if you do, email is better for me ATM than IRC. John. -- John Newbigin - Computer Systems Officer School of Information Technology Swinburne

Win32 Syslinux
I've been playing with the Win32 SYSLINUX, and it fails if you're not using NT or 2K or XP. There are some differences when using it under Win95/98/ME, but is there any reason that this program couldn't just have a different codepath for those older version of Windows? Re: CentOS-2 to CentOS-3 migration
Beau, > Subject: Re: [Centos] HOWTO? Upgrade Centos-2 to > Centos-3 John Newbin has been working on a migration center. It may have some useful information; get it here: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/centos-2/migration.htm > Correct me if I am wrong, but centos 2 > is based off or redhat 7.2, so it may work. Booting disk images with syslinux?
Is it possable to boot a diskimage with syslinux? So often I run into bios upgrade disks images or can easily create a disk image and would like an easy way to just boot these images. I know isolinux does this and I vagely remember using it to make a bootable windows 95 cd back in the day. It worked to. It would be nice if I could just copy the disk image to a usbstick and use syslinux to boot

more about: migration center
John, I did not hear back from you right away. Maybe doing all the combinations is too big a job for one person. It might work if we split them up. I could do these two: RedHat 9 -> reinstall CentOS-3.1 RedHat 9 -> live update to CentOS-3.1 I am volunteering for these because I already have RedHat 9 and CentOS-3.1 CD's. The only rub is on Saturday I go on vacation, and at

How to automate SMBMNT
Hi there, How do I automate smbmnt so that when logging on, it mounts the required shared directories on an NT4.0 file system using the user name and password I used t gain access to the GUI ? I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have been using this application for access but this requires that I scan mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.

Converting from RHEL to CentOS questions.
I have servers that are running: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 5) and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server release 2.1AS (Pensacola) [which I think RH renamed as Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 2.1]. The servers are running fine. Is it possible (and if so, how) to convert these to the equivalent releases of CentOS, without doing a complete upgrade (I want to mess with the

<OT> RedHat support
As a parallel question to my thread about CentOS for commercial use, here's a question I've been wondering about. How many of you who have RHEL licenses and paid support licenses have ever needed actually to request support? And if you did was the support any bit more timely or accurate than community support for CentOS or other distros? -- Collins When I saw the Iraqi people

smbmount and win2003 sp1
Hi All: I encountered a problem with smbmount and win2003 sp1. Before I upgrade sp1, everything works fine. But after sp1, smbmount = can't work. The command and error message are as follows: smbmount //localhost/share1 /tmp/mountest -o = username=3Ddomainu1,password=3Dpassword ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied.) SMB connection failed I also checked the release note about the issue, and

Is Samba running on a Dual boot system while using w2k ?
Hi all, I'm new to Linux and Samba. I have two seperate hard drives, one has w2k and the other Red Hat Linux 7.3. Yessterday I struggeled to make the SWAT work. Then I realized that now I need to learn how to use SWAT. Before I invest time in learning how to use SWAT, my question is if I using w2k, can I access the hard drive that Linux is on and vice versa. Theis question came to my

Mounting past the share level (\\server\share\path)
I've run into a bit of a stoppage here. Let me briefly describe the situation -- I have one Windows 2000 PDC. This holds the SAM we authenticate to across all of our machines via Kerberos5 or RADIUS. I have a few Linux boxen. They are each running winbind, and it runs flawlessly. What I would like to do is mount each user's Windows 2000 home directory (\\server\share\username) under

What's the configure specs for the generic Apache install of CentOS x86_64 5.3?
I'm trying to install apache 2.2.x from a tarball. And it works. But I'm also trying to install modsecure, and I can't get that to work. It might help to know what CentOS uses to install Apache when doing the ./configure. === Al

Installing CentOS over LAN
I want to set up a server that will do network installs of CentOS, perhaps through NFS. Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and with the server. Has anyone done that and published it? Where can I find docs? === Al

Re: RedHat/CentOS family tree
John, Your RedHat/CentOS family tree looks great! Even people who are not trying to migrate might want to take a look. For those who have not seen it yet, it is at the bottom of John's migration page, http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/centos-2/migration.htm For a general understanding how the different versions relate to each other, that picture is worth 1,000 words, easy.
