WinXP not caching credentials
I have three Windows XP (All SP2) machines that won't cache credentials with a Samba DC. A Debian Sarge system with Samba 3.0.10 is the domain controller. It has three users and three machine accounts. The three users all are simple Unix users, with no mapping to Windows users. We use DHCP (entirely different server) and DNS, but local IPs do not resolve. The configuration files for Samba

Big bug with vfs recycle causing bugs and frequent "Delayed write failure"
Hi, I'm running samba 3.0.22 with 2000 and xp clients. Before upgrading to 3.0.22, i had vfs recycle module running like a charm. Redundant ldap idmap backend possible?
Hi, I have just started to turn my Linux boxes over to use winbind for authentication and ldap based idmap backend servers (open-ldap). As far as I understand the documentation (for version 3.0.23c) it is only possible to specify one ldap server, mine config line looks like: idmap backend = ldap:ldap://idmap.xelerated.com I did try to map the idmap.xelerated.com entry in DNS to two

openSUSE v13.1 linux 3.11.10-11-desktop x86_64 samba 4.1.6 I recently upgraded an openSUSE server from v12.3 to v13.1. In the older version there was no problem about mounting a remote volume offered by an ancient OS/2 system. Now there is. Trying to mount it by command line: root:/home/sma-user3x> mount /t2 Retrying with upper case share name mount error(6): No such device or address

smbmount deprecated - what about Windows 9x?
Hallo, I've just installed Kernel 2.6.25.2 - works fine. But now when I use "smbmount" for mounting shares from my Win9x clients the system (kernel) tells me smbfs is deprecated and will be removed from the 2.6.27 kernel. Please migrate to cifs. But at least Win9x seems not to like cifs. Mounting via smbfs works since years, mounting (with the same options) via cifs

help troubleshooting inconsistencies in back up sizes
Hello list, I'll first describe my set up: server1 : live server server2 : backup server3 : backup of the backup so the data set is copied in this order server1->server2->server3 they are not done at the same time so there would be no collisions. I use this shell script to back up: for i in a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z `seq 0 9`; do

Ogg portable player...
Does anyone know if someone is planning one of these? I've seen comments about oggs on a pda, but I'm more interested in something like an iPod. I wrote apple and haven't received a response for weeks. I'm wondering if anyone else has had better results. --Robert -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Samba 4.5.2, 4.5.3, 4.5.4 as secondary DC to Windows 2008 R2
Dear All, I am running a two location SOHO network with a Microsoft AD on a Windows 2008 R2 server. The only secondary DC is a Microsoft HyperV VM running on the same Windows machine. My aim is to become more independent from Microsoft products. Nevertheless, I need to upgrade my server to Windows 2016 sometime soon - which does not mean that the DC level needs to be upgraded to Server 2016

howto enable ssh on connect to rsync daemon
Hi, I'm trying to setup automatic sync of files over SSH from node2 to node1. node2 is the "server" and node1 is the "client". I have setup rsync like this on the nodes which runs AIX (4.3.3 and 5.1): 1. Installed rsync from Linux Toolbox (rsync-2.5.4-1.aix4.3.ppc.rpm) on both nodes. 2. Added following to both nodes /etc/services file: rsync 873/tcp 3. Added

unable to access shares on Windows 98 machine
I have installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a new laptop. Everything seems great, except... I have this old Windows 98 machine that I treat as a server (no remarks, please). I've had it for a long time. When I access the shares from the Ubuntu 12.0.4 machine, a lot of files and directories that I know are there do not show up. I've tried just browsing to the shares in nautilus, places
