Looking for HowTo Postifx, Dovecot and PostgreSQL
Hi folks, I know it's a bit a n00bish question, but I'm a little confused about this many different ways on setting up dovecot with postfix and using a PostgreSQL backend for virtual hosts. I've found this one quiet helpful: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/DovecotPostgresql even it seems to be little outdated for recent versions of dovecot (the auth part of dovecot.conf). Also its

Postfix delivers mails to maildir and not to dovecot LDA for a virtual user
Hi I have been able to setup postfix and dovecot using postgres as the backend store with virtual user maps on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server. I have been following instructions from here: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/DovecotPostgresql I haven't setup postfix to use saslauthd and PAM, instead I am using dovecot for SASL authentication. Rest of the table structures and query files are the same as

Using pgsql with 'cram-md5 auth' and 'hmac-md5 scheme'
Hello, I want to use PostgreSQL to store my Dovecot users. I setup a very basic configuration, following word for word this page http://wiki.dovecot.org/DovecotPostgresql and it works ... almost. In fact, it works if I use PLAIN password scheme in my database. However, I would like to store them encrypted. But, if I replace the password field for my user with {HMAC-MD5}-... (the password

configuration
I've noticed that there are some parameters mentioned in the docs that aren't identified therein (ie: login_process_per_use). Is there a more generic set of docs that can identify what each of the parameters and what they do, or at least something that will allow me a simple how to to avoid embarrasing situations. I supposed I should only settle for ssl based connections (imaps/pops)

dovecot problem or not ?

Maildir/mbox on a per-user basis
Hello, The Wiki indicates that Dovecot can do either mbox or Maildir on a per-user basis: default_mail_env can be overridden in userdb for each user. This works with userdbs supporting the "mail" attribute (eg. passwd-file, SQL, LDAP). How exactly does one do this for passwd-file? Thanks, -Jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net

OT - Please don't feed the Troll(s)
Folks, I fully understand the emotional need to respond to one who throws around terms like "Communist", "Tyrannical", etc. even if ostensibly framed as a rhetorical question. Certain terms and phrases are by nature pejorative and I;m sure the OP knew this when he entered his post. My feeling was the OP is either an ignorant, unappreciative, self-centered, and emotionally

passwd-file maintenance by users, other options
I am using Dovecot to provide IMAP and IMAP+SSL service for my users, but am still using QPopper for POP3 service, wrapped with stunnel for POP3+SSL. I am hesitant to get rid of QPopper because it supports APOP, which encrypts authentication data (both where it is stored, and when it is transmitted), and because APOP passwords can be managed by the users themselves, via the popauth tool that they

dovecot + LDAP-SASL ?
Hi, just a question: I know that dovecot supports SASL authentication and supports LDAP. Which means that dovecot performs the SASL methods itself and stores the plaintext secret on LDAP. But it is also possible to have the LDAP do the SASL work and dovecot just pass SASL messages through? Even when the LDAP server uses a proprietary SASL method not supported by dovecot? regards Hadmut
