new mails don't always show
Hi, I am having some trouble with dovecot (0.99.14) and maildir. Some users are reporting that sometimes, they don't get (pop3, various clients) new mails for a while even though they should. I checked and confirmed this: mails were delivered by MTA (sendmail, procmail). But when the problem existed, the new mails were in cur/, not new/ and dovecot would not report any new messaged to the

Unexpected behaviour when deleteing a big mailbox
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, my last tests left me with a mailbox with > 80'000 messages in Maildir. Dovecot served them fine. No problem. I usually use IMAP's "Mark messages a deleted" function and expunge later. Because the "Move to Trash" is default in many MUAs, I decided to try it on this mailbox. I do think that it is hard to

File Permissions and delivery
Hi I'm very new to Dovecot (been using Courier for 5 years), but I've been persuaded of the merits of Dovecot and since the server needs upgrading that seems like the perfect time/excuse. On a test server, I set up postfix and installed Dovecot (running 32-bit Debian Squeeze, installed from apt-get). I mirrored the mail store (Maildirs, for historical reasons located under

Thunderbird or Dovecot causing duplicates
Hey everyone, back on the list after a few years away. I have a strange issue that is just annoying. Trying to work out if it's Dovecot or Thunderbird causing the problem. Basically, I read an email (so it gets marked as read) and then very quickly I mark is as unread, (i.e. I realised I want to leave that email for later) which causes a duplicate email to be created. Generally I believe both

Imap unlink "failed, is a directory".
Dovecot 1.1.8-0_85.el5 I'm seeing this set of messages repeat every 15 min. My best guess is the user tried to delete an imap folder and is failing? convert_mail plugin doesn't work
Hi I'm trying to use convert_mail plugin to convert wu-imap mailbox to maildir. I'm using dovecot rc 27 on Centos 4.4 linux. I have user INBOX in /var/spool/mail/ and mbox file in mail ~/mail When I do the first login with a test user (test1), the plugin convert all the mbox under ~mail, but doesn't do any conversion on the INBOX (/var/spool/mail/test1). After conversion those

Some help required - dovecot: IMAP(matthew): unlink(/home/matthew/Maildir/cur/new) failed: Operation not permitted
Hi all, I have tried very hard to solve this problem but turn to the mailing list as a last resort. Hot to get rid of \"DON\'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE\" messages?
I'm using Dovecot 1.0.0 (mbox) with Postfix 2.4 on my FreeBSD box, as a pop3-only server (imap is disabled). All account mailboxes are accessed using Outlook clients. I've noticed that, whenever I'm retrieving mail with pop3, a "DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE" is created in mbox. Although these messages are never sent to client MUAs, I found them very annoying. BTW I

stat failed: Not a directory
I have recently installed dovecot on a FreeBSD mailserver running postfix. But when I try to login with imap/pop3, I always get an error "stat failed: Not a directory". I guess it is something wrong with the mail format postfix uses to store the message, but I don't seem to find the correct solution. Here's the postfix log with the successful delivery: Feb 17 08:58:24 mailsrv2

Corrupted Indexes and File Permissions
Hello, I'm using Dovecot to provide an IMAP service to a small number of users and I'm seeing two recurring errors which look like they might be related. Environment: o FreeBSD 5.2.1 / Postfix 2.0.18 / Dovecot 0.99.10.4 o Maildir mailboxes Problem: On logging in all the folders under the users mailbox are empty. This has happened with both MS Outlook 2000 clients as well as

Bug? 1.0.0-test28 NFS locking problems
Hi Slight problem - linux 2.4 running dovecot, Solaris 2.8 home directory server. Full lockd support etc. I had to make the following code patches (at end of mail for clarity) to get dovecot to read the users mbox files at all. 1) fcntl with F_SETLKW will not work against a Solaris 2.8 server as proved with a small test program. Other forms of fcntl (ie F_SETLK) are OK. I noticed there are

Dovecot 1.2.11 renames Maildir filenames on first read of foreign POPstore - how to avoid
Greetings, I'm converting from a custom POPstore ( > 100,000 messages) which is Maildir-like and uses the filename as the UIDL and doesn't store it inside the message. I'm wondering whether there is hope for config-file options to keep devecot from renaming files when it first sees them, or whether I'm going to need to create a new backend for dovecot based on Maildir.

very slow pop3 downloads
Hi all, I have a dovecot installation which very suddenly decided to slow to a crawl yesterday after being totally fine for months. IMAP is fine, but POP3 is very painful to use, and frequently times out. here's my config: # 1.0.7: /etc/dovecot.conf log_path: /var/log/dovecot_errors info_log_path: /var/log/dovecot_informational ssl_ca_file: /etc/postfix/ssl/cacert.pem ssl_cert_file:

Dovecot returns the same UIDL for another message
Hello, I have a serious problem with dovecot and mbox format. dovecot returns the same UIDL for new messages and as result some MUAs don't retrieve new mail. UIDs returned by UIDL command look like 000000*1c*49006cec And there is a moment when dovecot stops incrementing marked digits. In other words when new message arrive to mbox, UIDL command returns used UID. I'll show with example:

v1.1.beta1 POP3 delete problem
Hello, POP3 server does not delete mails when user quits POP3 session, but only at the next login. It looks so - user logs in with USER and PASS commands, at this moment new messages are moved from /new to /cur maildir folder. Then messages are deleted with DELE command(before deleting there can be other POP3 commands) and the user quits session. The server says "+OK Logging out,

1.0.0-test28 Problem with INDEX
Hi Using this line in dovecot.conf (ignore linewrap) default_mail_env = mbox:%h/IMAP/:INBOX=%h/.email:INDEX=/var/cache/dovecot/%n The INBOX indexes are being built correctly in /var/cache/dovecot, but all other indexes for folders are still being built in the user's home directory. I had it working once - but it seems fragile - almost as if the config parser is sensitive to context???
