mbox and maildir
Is it possible to mix maildir and mbox formats with dovecot? For
example, I would like ~/mail to be in maildir format yet keep the inbox
(/var/mail/%u) in mbox format. If so, how may I go about this? Or am
I stuck not being able to create subdirectories in ~/mail?
Cheers,

Advice on converting from Mbox to Maildir?
Does anyone have advice or pointers on good documentation on how to
convert a system from using the Mbox format to using Maildir?
I recently upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1 and discovered
that UW-IMAP was gone. So I switched over to using Dovecot. So far so
good.
But I would like to convert my system to start using the Maildir format.
How easy is this to accomplish?

0.99.10.5 imap flag update issues
Hi,
there is an issue left in 0.99.10.5 which (I think) is a problem with
imap status flags. It shows up in two places:
(1) When new mail is delivered to the inbox, the last read mail changes
to "unread".
(2) When you move mails from the inbox to another folder with Mozilla
(1.6 on win32, Linux, NetBSD), they are not removed from the inbox,
effectively performing a copy instead of a

On purpose slow copy support?
I'd like to use rsync on a production box that has a great deal of
memory-cached filesystem in use at all times. Is there any way, or any
other tool, that will do a "slow" copy? purposefully not busting the
cache by copying things as fast as possible?
"nice" does not work, of course, as that is a cpu scheduling control.
What I want is basically lowest-priority or

Simper analysis with Morisita-Horn
Dear ecology fellows,
I tried to implement Morisita-Horn distance (instead of Bray that is in the
current version) in the code for the Simper analysis in vegan. I would be
very grateful if someone can check if the code is right.

NMBD Not Starting
I moved an entire RH 6.2 server from one CPU to a new one using a tape
backup/restore. Everything from the old server is working on the new server,
but when SysV starts up smb, the nmbd daemon (2.0.6) exits with an error:
create_subnets: No local interfaces!
eth0 has already started according to the logs and console. Any ideas?
Thanks.

O_DIRECT
It'd be pretty cool if rsync supported use of O_DIRECT on platforms that
support it, with or without my odirect package:
http://dcs.nac.uci.edu/~strombrg/odirect/
I say this because rsync is sometimes used to move a mountain of data,
just once. So there's little point in rsync toasting one's buffer cache.
I gather there's something like O_DIRECT on windows too, but it's

product of vector elements
All,
I would like to find a simper method that I now have to find the
product of all elements in a vector:
#get product of vector elements: (1,2,3,4,5)
vec.product <- exp(sum(log(c(1,2,3,4,5))))
I have not found a vector product function, if one has been written.
Thanks,
Gerard

Joining NT4 workstations to a Samba 3 Domain
Linux: Fedora Core 2
Samba: 3.0.3
OpenLDAP: 2.1.29
I've noticed a couple of other messages in this month's archives that
suggest they're having the same problem as I, but so far no resolution
has been reported.
I've got a new Samba domain up and running with LDAP that allows me to
join Win2K and XP clients, but not NT4 workstations. I've added the
machine account with the

[Fwd: Re: [Evolution] evo confused when searching message bodies on large folders?]
Is this possibly a problem with dovecot 0.99.10.9?
Maybe it's been fixed in a later release?
Might it be a security issue?
Thanks!

Copy all local filesystems, but ignore NFS mounts?
What's the easiest way, with rsync, to back up all local filesystems to
another host, ignoring anything on an NFS volume.
For example, is there a way of giving a list of mount points but still
have --one-file-system work?
Thanks!

vegan moved to GitHub and vegan 2.2-0 is coming (are you ready?)
Dear vegan team,
Vegan development happens now completely in github. R-Forge repository is no more in sync with github. I tried to commit all github changes to R-Forge, but a week ago I got a conflict in file and I haven't had time to resolve that conflict. You can follow vegan development and vegan discussion also without signing to github. The system seems to be completely open and does not

Package RODBC sqlQueries
All -
I'm new to SQL and the RODBC package. I've read the documentation
associated with the RODBC package, but I'm still having problems with
my SQL statements; I think my syntax, particularly with respect to my
WHERE statement, is off but I can't find any documentation as to why.
When I run a query from within the Access2007 database, it looks like this:

Randomly selecting n (unique) elements out of vector of length m...
Dear R users,
I wonder if there is a simple way to select a random and non-overlapping
subset of a vector?
Say, I need to randomly select 10 out of 100 numbers in a vector V. By
"non-overlapping" I
mean that a number in any position in V (V[1]...V[100]) should be
selected at most once
(i.e. selection without recycling).
I could simplu use a uniform distribution to generate selection

"security = user" security setting
Using Samba 3.x, we are looking at the "security" setting. We want to
get "security = user" to work, preferably with user authentication
independent from local /etc/passwd & shadow. But we don't want to use
Samba-based authentication due to administrative overhead.
Ideally, we want to tie in with a Windows Active Directory domain
through Kerberos 5 so people can use

Logging the hostname with a Samba share connection
I am new to Samba but I set up a server and I am trying to get the
logging to my liking.
In /var/log/samba the entries are of the format:
date.ipaddress.ipaddress
I would prefer the logging to be:
date.ipaddress:hostname
I tried to do this with the /etc/samba/smb.conf setting:
log file = /var/log/samba/%m:%M:%I.log
The man page seems to indicate that either %m or %M should

What BIC is calculated by 'regsubsets'?
The function 'regsubsets' appears to calculate a BIC value that is
different from that returned by the function 'BIC'. The latter is
explained in the documentation, but I can't find an expression for the
statistic returned by 'regsubsets'.
Incidentally, both of these differ from the BIC that is given in Ramsey
and Schafer's, The Statistical Sleuth. I assume
