mbox and maildir
Is it possible to mix maildir and mbox formats with dovecot? For
example, I would like ~/mail to be in maildir format yet keep the inbox
(/var/mail/%u) in mbox format. If so, how may I go about this? Or am
I stuck not being able to create subdirectories in ~/mail?
Cheers,
Shane

A little OT but hopefully still related enough... Maildir Delivered mail naming problems.
Normally I wouldn't post off topic to a mailing list, but I have posted
every where else I can think of and haven't had any success yet working
this out. I know there has to be a few people here with extensive
knowledge of how mail works and maybe just a tip in the right direction
would help me out at this point.
I have migrated from mbox format to Maildir format in the last week. I

mbox vs maildir
I'm using Dovecot 1.0.1-12 on Linux/Fedora 7
along with sendmail and procmail all running on the same box
mail is stored in mbox format
It's a small system with a half dozen or so e-mail "accounts". Each with
40-60MB of messages in various folders.
I keep seeing messages about how mbox is antiquated and anybody with
more than 100 messages etc should not use mbox, but use

Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?
Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of
converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving
from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing
about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox
does not support subfolders which some people like to
use.
Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to
each individual account and "manually" convert swaping
data

[Fwd: Re: [Evolution] evo confused when searching message bodies on large folders?]
Is this possibly a problem with dovecot 0.99.10.9?
Maybe it's been fixed in a later release?
Might it be a security issue?
Thanks!

0.99.10.5 imap flag update issues
Hi,
there is an issue left in 0.99.10.5 which (I think) is a problem with
imap status flags. It shows up in two places:
(1) When new mail is delivered to the inbox, the last read mail changes
to "unread".
(2) When you move mails from the inbox to another folder with Mozilla
(1.6 on win32, Linux, NetBSD), they are not removed from the inbox,
effectively performing a copy instead of a

flat file mailbox formats
I've tried to write the new mbox code in a way that it could be moved
into generic flat-file library with mbox-specific code being implemented
on top of that.
The code would be useful for all formats that require modifying message
headers to store the metadata. How many such are there?
I suppose all such formats could be implemented by separating mails into
3 logical parts:
- header

On purpose slow copy support?
I'd like to use rsync on a production box that has a great deal of
memory-cached filesystem in use at all times. Is there any way, or any
other tool, that will do a "slow" copy? purposefully not busting the
cache by copying things as fast as possible?
"nice" does not work, of course, as that is a cpu scheduling control.
What I want is basically lowest-priority or

1.0-test14: no sendfile() in Solaris 8
Aloha.
The current CVS snapshot and 1.0-test14 will not build on Solaris 8
because it does not provide a sendfile() funtion. It just has sendfilev().
Solaris 9 has sendfile(), though.
Using the old sendfile-util.c from 1.0-test1 and setting HAVE_SOLARIS_SENDFILEV
instead of HAVE_LINUX_SENDFILE in config.h works.
Greetings,
Andy.

Migrating from mbox to maildir, which converter is compatible with dovecot
Hi,
I'm testing/debuging the migration from mbox to maildir in a mailserver
running Dovecot 1.0alpha5.
I migrated all 472715 emails(in a test server) and later noted that dovecot
could not get the same flags/status of the emails as in the mbox.
I was using perfect_maildir.pl and I think its not dovecot fault. Seems
to me that perfect_maildir.pl convert the emails in a way that dovecot
could

Message index corruption when using Thunderbird and Dovecot
Hi all,
I have recently upgraded from UW-IMAP to Dovecot 1.0.beta3 on Redhat9. I
migrated my mailbox to from Mbox to Maildir using the mb2md perl script,
and created a procmail recipe file to get email arriving in the Maildir
directories. However, when accessing my mailbox from Thunderbird
(version 1.5), it occasionally mixes up the email header with the email
content. I also occasionally

Convert mbox to maildir
Hello all
I?ve installed a new Server with dovecot, started using it and had no
problems until I noticed that I couldn?t create sub-sub-folders on my imap
account, I?ve read for the past two days info on how to convert and I know
now that instead of using mbox I need to user maildir, the issue is now to
convert mbox to maildir, on the various searches I did, I found the convert

O_DIRECT
It'd be pretty cool if rsync supported use of O_DIRECT on platforms that
support it, with or without my odirect package:
http://dcs.nac.uci.edu/~strombrg/odirect/
I say this because rsync is sometimes used to move a mountain of data,
just once. So there's little point in rsync toasting one's buffer cache.
I gather there's something like O_DIRECT on windows too, but it's

Util for pop3 to dovecot?
What I want to do is pop my email off of a Pop3 server
and give it to dovecot for imap serving. Does anyone
know of a utility that will allow me to do this? I looked
at fetchmail but it seems to want to talk to an SMTP
server.
Thanks,
Brad

docecot and procmail?
Is dovecot still considered unreliable when combined with NFS?
Is this true for mbox only, or Maildir as well?
If dovecot Is still considered unreliable with NFS, how about having a
dovecot mode that would chain into procmail for delivery, so that dovecot
doesn't (necessarily) have to reinvent that wheel?
Thanks!

My sub-folder with Outlook work-around to date
Wow excellent feedback Joseph, Philon and Aki,
You have all pointed me in the right direction. Tonight I have tested
Dovecot with just the minor configs I do for Dovecot setup and I have
commented out the mbox/Maildir lines in 10-mail.conf from my testing:
#mail_location =
#mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u
#mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir
I had run up some test files

mbox folders
I just upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1. Discovered that
UW-IMAP was replaced with Cyrus. Not quite ready to switch to that mail
box format so I instead installed dovecot which comes with Fedora Core
2.
The RPM version is: dovecot-0.99.10.4-4
The problem I am having is that it seems to want to put folders in:
~/mail/mail/
I would like the folders to be in:
~/mail/

CVS to Subversion sync and check-in comments
So is there any possibility of getting it so that the Subversion
repository can get the check-in comments from the internal CVS
repository?
At the moment every log file comment I see in SVN is "Sync". Which
doesn't really let me know what has happenned without having to go lock
at the actual diff between the two versions. And even then I may not
have any idea why the change was
