Outlook Express 6.0.280.1123 SSL and dovecot .
Hello there,
First many thanks for dovecot, this is marvelous piece of software :)
One of my users is using Outlook Express 6.0.280.1123 on XP with SSL.
I have lots of this in the syslog :

Jul 22 16:25:32 kiwi imap-login: SSL_read() syscall failed: EOF

Errmsgs b4 and after migration DC V1.0.15 to V1.1.8
Last Wednesday at 12:21 I made this switch, which seemed to be
uneventful. In any case, no user has reported problems since the
migration. Not content to leave well enough alone, this morning I
scanned the syslog and maillog for dovecot related errors. What I found
was that:

I saw a lot of SSL errors that look like this:

Seeing ''SSL_read'' errors being logged by puppetmaster. Anyone know
what causes these or how to correct? They''re sporadic, not happening

problems with imaps
hi,
i'm using dovecot 1.2.15 with self signed certificates
using starttls on ports 110/143 works ok with thunderbird 10.0.12 (and i
guess most other clients)
using imaps on port 993 works with outlook 2002.
with thunderbird 10.0.12 i can't connect to port 993 and get errors in
the logs like
TLS: SSL_read() failed: error:14094412:SSL
routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert bad

Ive recently installed dovecot as a replacement for my uw-imap server. Ive
noticed a few error messages in the log file, although in operation ive seen
no problems from my mail client. The errors are:

/var/mail/admin: LF not found where expected
and
pop3-login: Dec 29 14:54:03 Warning: SSL_read() syscall failed: EOF

A short description on how I did this can be found at my web page:

I use Fedora Core 2, but I do not think that will matter, it should work
for SuSE also I think.

Install fails when libdir and libexecdir are the same directory
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I'm using Dovecot 1.2.9. I configured it like this:
% ./configure --prefix=/opt/rt --libdir=/opt/rt/lib \
--libexecdir=/opt/rt/lib [other args...]
It compiled fine, but failed to install, because it tries to install a
directory called <libdir>/dovecot/imap, and a file called
<libexecdir>/dovecat/imap, which obviously

Weird series of errors with dovecot-stable
I'm using the dovecot-stable from 7/30, authenticating against an
OpenLDAP server. From time to time, dovecot stops responding to new
queries. It seems to be a self-correcting problem, lasting about 20
minutes.
Here's how it starts:

dovecot ssl error message from my own connections
Hello all,
Just a minor thing. Not a big deal, because everything works fine, and
I feel secure with my setup.
But, I get this error message pretty much throughout the day/night,
which appears to come from my own mail clients (desktop or mobile).
I would like to resolve it, because it must me something (that is not
good--that I may not understand), that may have other ramifications.
So, here it

Stop Maildir appending to path
Dovecot is working perfectly except for one problem. I have local
users and virtual users. Local users are ~/Maildir. And virtual users
are /home/vmail/domain/user. The problem is, it keeps trying to fetch
virtual mail at /home/vmail/domain/user/Maildir. It doesn't exist the
user/ dir is the Maildir.
To get around this, I have to make symlinks on each virtual email.

Compiling dovecot on SuSE 9
Again I am asking for some help to compile and configure dovecot on SuSE 9.
I have configured and compiled it as per the instructions and no errors or
problems. When I try to run dovecot from the command line it does not
complain or give me any errors. The daemon starts and dies almost
immediately.
Do I need to compile differently? What can I do to see what is the
problem. I was asked to run

SSL alert number 42
This is what I did. I obtained a certificate from this site:
https://www.sslforfree.com
They provided 3 files:
? certificate.crt
? private.key
which make perfect sense as replacement for the 2 files provided by the
distribution. I am guessing that I need somehow to append the 3rd file
(ca_bundle.crt) to the first one? In order to raise its credibility?
TIA

Hi,
the email status problem that I reported for Dovecot 0.99.10.5 on
June 3rd does still show up in 0.99.10.6. Quoting myself:

SSL-read error in logfile
Now most things seem to work (rc12 on Mandriva 2007.0), I've been looking
more thoroughly at the syslog file. I see a 'syscall failed' at the end of
a normal timed poll from the client. I wonder what it means. Sorry for the
layout, it is messed up by the cut and paste. I have created the
selfsigned cert and key in the /etc/ssl/dovecot/[certs,private]
directories.

shared authentication
whats the recommended way to share a user auth info between dovecot and
postfix? sasldb seems like it could work but nobody really seems to
like using the giant mass that is sasl. i also cant find any
information on actually getting dovecot to use sasl past the configure
options. i looked at timo's patch for postfix to use dovecot-auth but
it doesnt apply correctly on the 2.1 branch.

Nested folders
hello,
I know this is a question that has probably been answered before but I
have searched for the answer and am yet to find it.
I am running dovecot under fedora core 2 and cannot figure out where I
set it so that users can create nested folders. At the moment they can
only create one subfolder in most mail clients.
however if using squirrelmail they can create nested folders but the
