more transitional joys
well, now that I have moved to dovecot, I'm not getting any spam... in fact, I'm not getting e-mail at all. default_mail_env =mbox:~/IMap2/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u when I first tried to access my inbox, I was told I had permission problems: Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): open(/var/spool/mail/esj.lock) failed: Permission denied Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): file_lock_dotlock()

did the conversion and something broke
figures. Converted over to maildir today. Procmail is a piece of cake once I managed to pride out of its cold dead fingers the essential tiny bit of documentation I needed. But I'm having a problem with my nested directories. I have a directory called incoming sort my incoming mail. The conversion utility created a bunch of files called incoming.<stuff> and 1 file is visible

joys of transition.
Red Hat 8.0 stock dovecot 99.10 for a variety of reasons, I decided to cut over to dovecot this morning. I extracted all of my mailboxes from mbx purgatory back to mbox purgatory, set up dovecot and proceed to get authentication failures. (am using simple password based authentication either direct or through pam) I turned authentication verbosity on and got: Aug 14 11:51:38 harvee dovecot:

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox. In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40 percent for Mozilla

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc. especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo. I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC 3000 (sans

conversion to maildir
is really a royal pain in the butt. most of the conversion tools only do a partial job. mb2md seems to be the best but it does not convert the from line correctly unless you are using exim for an MTA. It also does not get the file status right so everything is written to the new maildir directory. something else that makes the process painful is when you have folders containing mailboxes.

choosing a UPS (in the United States)
I do a bunch of "kindness of strangers" hosting in my basement and my three kVA apc unit died recently. In looking around, it looked like Belkin was a reasonable low-end replacement for a few machines. Then I read this mailing list after I purchased one and was gifted another. It looks like people don't like Belkin. ;-) So the question is what's a good UPS for running

looking for Windows rsync without cygwin
wondering if anyone has built a native port yet. It looks like I may have to go through eliminate delta copy from a half a dozen machines because of transfer lockups. Conversation on the rsnapshot list indicates that using cygwin may be the source of my problems. """Yes, there's a well-known Cygwin hang bug that rsync seems to hit especially often. IIRC, the problem is that

belkin Q:
I'm trying to set up a belkin f6c1100-unv UPS to work with nuts. From reading the mailing list, it sounds like the belkinunv serial driver should work and that the USB driver is potentially troublesome. Is this a correct impression? Also I may have missed this but if I do go with the serial (or USB port) is there any simple command line method for verifying basic connectivity? The

Maildir and Mail at the same time.
I am trying to use Maildir format for My inbox and be able to save the messages in ~/Mail. Problem is dovecot only show the Maildir mailboxes not the ~/Mail formatted boxes. How can I get this to work? If I use namespace or something how would this be configured I cannot find much documentation that explains it well enough. example: what would I have to configure in dovecot.conf or

Naturally speaking under wine help needed
[[apologies if this is a dupe. gmane is a bit odd sometimes]] I need some help on a handicap accessibility project. It's really great for people like me that naturally speaking is working in wine (mostly). One important shortcoming is getting our dictated text into linux. Today, in order to copy text from the wine environment and place it in the Linux environment, we need to dictate into

Reason for no samba linux kernel driver
Hello Samba developers, First, thank you for your excellent work! I have a naive question, out of curiosity, why is there no samba server support in Linux kernel unlike the cifs client support? Wouldn't it be more easier to use if there is a samba server support in kernel and a corresponding user space demon to control it just like nfsd? Also, I think performance of a kernel space driver

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

IVR dictionary dial-plan
Does anyone know of an (E)AGI or program to develop a IVR dial-plan which will take a list of words and then do something when a unique branch has been found. i.e. Say there's 3 words demon deacon bishop On a phone they'd be represented as 33666 332266 247467 So if the user enters "2" we know they want bishop if they enter "336" they want demon and "332"

Compile on RHAS/RHEL3?
List, both on RHAS3 update3, update 4, Samba source code 3.0.9 thru 11 gives SIGSEGVs on make check. Installing the buggers and trying to run them gives the same. *THOUGH*. The Red Hat beta 3.0.9 srpm at fr2.rpmfind.net comples and runs "like a little sun" ("net als een zonnetje", in Dutch). Anyone compiled Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3/RHEL3? Not "how", just

Attachment. who can I best report this to for forensis?
Johan B, please let it through+ The headers are needed. I live in the Netherlands, where the police contacts for this sort of thing are grey and unknown to me. The Metropolitan Police (London only) in England is 100% on the ball, but they're under resourced and I don't live in their "manor" (London slang for area). I'd like to push it out to as powerful an organization

Tinc on OsX, partial success
I have now got the tinc demons (on network OFFICES) on BranchB and BranchA talking to each other, see below for log from BranchB. For some trouble shouting issues relating to OsX see at the end of my e-mail. However, I have not yet achieved the network connectivity/routing that I would like. The aim is: BranchB is a laptop I would like to connect it (via tinc) to my office network, so that

upsd problem with NUT 2.6.1
Hi, I've had NUT 2.6.1 on OpenIndiana working with a Tripp-Lite ECO550. I've been playing around with the config files a little bit, and I must have done something that messed up the demon. I now get wiley$ pfexec /opt/nut/sbin/upsd -DD Network UPS Tools upsd 2.6.1 0.000000 listening on 127.0.0.1 port 3493 0.000486 listening on ::1 port 3493 0.001279 Can't connect to

ipmasqadm port forwarding ipportfw (HOWTO)
Hi All, born out of frustration with conflicting info on the net, I thought I'd share a simple guide to set up the port forwarding side of masquerading... this presumes you already have basic ipchains setup and simple masquerading of internal machines installed. PORT FORWARDING USING IPMASQADM. “Ipmasqadm” supercedes the “ipportfw” feature. 1 - Upgrade to Kernel 2.2.12-20 if not already

LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People, I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11 PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations) running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a RHAS3 NAS server. I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site) and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I
