zlib plugin
hi,
Could anyone give some info on this plugin?
When i read the wiki (http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib) i'm still
left with some questions...
I use Maildir to store my mails, if i enable this zlib-plugin,
should i 'manually' compress all messages?
or wil the uncompressed messages still be accessible by dovecot?
wil new messages be compressed automagically?
how should the

Trouble with password scheme module
Hi, all.
About two and a half years ago, I wrote a hack to add an additional
MD5-based password scheme to Dovecot, but I wrote it as a hack to
src/auth/password_scheme.c since it was relatively easy to do, and I
needed to get a machine running since the machine I was replacing, a Sun
Ultra 5 running Post.Office, had dying hard drives.
Now, I'm actually sitting down and adapting it as a

zlib errors after upgrading
zstd support was added in v2.3.11 (not v2.3.12 like I mistakenly tried to say in the earlier mail).

Applying Dovecot for a large / deep folder-hierarchy archive - BUG REPORTS!
Hello Timo,
I have scheduled some time to carry through the test requested by Aki.
I will add responding to you as part of that process.
Not sure if I have said or done anything to offend you, as your tone
appears quite abrasive, even where you do not have an actual response
to an observation.
It is my view that it is a privilege to provide an open source
platform, and therefore a

Hello,
I use mbox compressed by gzip as read-only folder (using zlib plugin).
This setup worked for a while, but doesn't work with latest dovecot
version (2.2.27).
I have error in logs:

I can see list of messages in MUA but can't ready body of any message.

Debugging password schemes
Hi, all.
I managed to get my new password scheme routine written, but a couple of
things:
1. The example module lacks an init routine. Since I used it as a
model, my module also lacks one. As such, my newly-built module is seen
but not registered. In the meantime, I moved the routines into
password-scheme.c instead where I had access to all the MD5 routines
already set up for me.

zlib support
Hi,
Silly idea, Ever considered zlib support so the imap server could read
through gzipped mbox files or gzipped maildir entries?

zlib plugin weirdness
Hello,
I'm trying to get the zlib plugin working on my 2.0 server. I started
with an mbox that Dovecot can read just fine. Then I gzipped it, and
now Dovecot complains that it's corrupted:
Error: Next message unexpectedly corrupted in mbox file

ok, I did install zstd (zstd command line interface 64-bits v1.4.4, by
Yann Collet)
reconfigured & compiled dovecot 2.3.10.1 again with option : with-zstd
changed the configuration file to :
zlib_save = zstd
and restarted dovecot -
now I have following log file errors :

pine vs dovecot-zlib (mbox.gz)
Hello!
Always reproducible pine vs dovecot-imap-mbox.gz scene has weird errors.
- Initial message is OK: [Folder "SAVE.gz" opened with 211 messages
READONLY]
- Some mails at the end are listed correctly, others are listed with
empty sender/size/subject (just numbering).
- All mails have no bodies. Full header command produces total blank
screen. Even before any error message.

zlib plugin
Good evening, folks,
Well, here at least. ;) I recently found out by accident about support
for gzip compressed mbox files. While this is great for archives to keep
wasting of space down to a minimum, unfortunately it is read only -- no
support for rw access.
Is implementing write access by any chance planned for future releases?
Now for the spoiler. :) I mentioned, I found out about this

1.2.15 can't get zlib working
Following these instructions: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib
I enabled zlib and restarted Dovecot. I made a backup copy of a 68MB
mbox file and moved it to a non mail directory. The mbox file is an
existing TBird IMAP folder in my UNIX user mail directory. It is an
archive of a defunct mailing list. It was a regular IMAP folder prior
to attempting this. I was able to access all emails

1.1 and the zlib plugin
Hello,
I've been playing around with using namespaces to change the way
messages are stored. My idea was to use mbox for archival stuff, like
this:
namespace private {
separator = .
hidden = no
inbox = yes
prefox =
location = maildir:%h/Maildir
}
namespace private {
separator = .
hidden = no
prefix =

Dovecot 1.0-stable .deb file?
Hi, all.
I know that there's no official Dovecot 1.0-stable .deb, given Timo's
recommendations. However, does anyone have even an "unofficial" deb of
it for, say, Sarge? I want to use 1.0's ability to use both mbox and
maildir; the latter is very helpful for dealing with mailing lists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Panic: file istream-zlib.c: ...assertion failed: (ret == -1) / core dump on signal 6 / zlib
Hello!
I have several gzip'ed mbox Files in my home dir and the problem
occurs when I use one of the gzip'ed files as shown mbox in the gui
and want to see one mail of it.
It also happens on the extended search from Horde which then such a
gzip'ed file.
Example file:
# file In_2014.gz
In_2014.gz: gzip compressed data, was "In_2014", last modified: Wed

Security hole #3: zlib plugin allows opening any gziped mboxes
zlib plugin allows opening gzipped mboxes as read-only mailboxes.
However when using it, the mailbox name checks are bypassed so it's
possible to open for example "../otheruser/somefile.gz". Only valid
gzipped mbox files can be opened, and only if their name ends with
".gz".
You can fix this by upgrading to v1.0.rc29 (available soon) or with this
patch:
