sysfs udev hald -_-
I tried creating a new partition on a disk. After the partition table was written, I got a message about the kernel still using the old partition table. How do I get whatever system to register the new partition short of rebooting the box?

rsync doesn't checksum for local transfers?
Hello. Please see http://unix.stackexchange.com/a/66702. I would like to have confirmation whether or not rsync verifies the transferred files' integrity at the target location by checksumming as advertised in the manpage: """Note that rsync always verifies that each transferred file was correctly reconstructed on the receiving side by checking a whole-file checksum that is

Anaconda doesn't support raid10
So after troubleshooting this for about a week, I was finally able to create a raid 10 device by installing the system, copying the md modules onto a floppy, and loading the raid10 module during the install. Now the problem is that I can't get it to show up in anaconda. It detects the other arrays (raid0 and raid1) fine, but the raid10 array won't show up. Looking through the logs

Help with moving from Fedora to Centos
I have just installed centos 4 on a spare box - working great. Until now, I have been using Fedora Core3. I wish to move all of my mail, address book and bookmarks created in Thunderbird and Firefox from the Fedora system to the new Centos system. Would someone kindly point me in the right direction, I am relatively new at linux. Many thanks for any assistance. christian

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good experience with this Supermicro motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead. JC

Ext4 improvements
Please be patient with my ignorance if what I am asking is meaningless in any way. I am not too technically knowledgeable about filesystem internals but I am willing to learn. (I thought of posting to linux-ext4 but did not want to intrude within the technical threads with my layman thread.) How fouled-up can you get??
I subscribed, and am getting emails hand over fist. They'll bust my inbox quota if I miss a day. I went to the web site for my subscription and tried to disable delivery; I'll follow this list on gmane or not at all -- and that works with every other mailman list I've tried. It wouldn't let me -- kept reverting to the password screen; I kept giving it the password, and making the

Re: Fix passwd/shadow/group files? -- network architecture is always piecemeal
From: Feizhou > I know what a Kerberos authentication system is. > You mean a core component in Samba 3.0's functionality as an ADS client. You're still artificially limiting your understanding. Kerberos (with the MS extensions in the case of 200x/XP) is how objects authenticate each other and grant tickets for access in a Kerberos realm. Samba can use Kerberos how it sees fit.

anaconda in centOS 4 fails to read md raid arrays
Has anybody encountered this problem? I have a box that has FC2 installed. I wanted to trash the FC2 installation and install CentOS 4. I have a pxeboot/dhcp/kickstart environment and so I tried automatic disk partitioning (clear all partitions and then create new ones), manual disk partitioning but everything else is automated and finally, zero automation, just a manual installation through
