question on software raid-1
I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as
/dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1
/dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3
it seems as though /dev/hda has failed....
I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with.
I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0
/dev/hda1
and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots).
BUT... how do I now get

permanently add md device
Hi All
Currently i'm setting up a 5.4 server and try to create a 3rd raid device, when i run:
$mdadm --create /dev/md2 -v --raid-devices=15 --chunk=32 --level=raid6 /dev/sdc /dev/sdd /dev/sde /dev/sdf /dev/sdg /dev/sdh /dev/sdi /dev/sdj /dev/sdk /dev/sdl /dev/sdm /dev/sdn /dev/sdo /dev/sdp /dev/sdq
the device file "md2" is created and the raid is being configured. but somehow

md raid1 - no speed improvement
Hi,
I have two 320 GB SATA disks (/dev/sda, /dev/sdb) in a server running
CentOS release 5.
They both have three partitions setup as RAID1 using md (boot, swap,
and an LVM data partition).
# cat /proc/mdstat

[PATCH 1/2] Create an MD variant of the dummy Fedora image
This change involves rewriting make-fedora-img.sh in perl. This allows the
flexibility to write mdadm.conf containing whichever uuids where randomly
generated when the md devices were created.

LVM problem after adding new (md) PV
Hello,
I have a weird problem after adding new PV do LMV volume group.
It seems the error comes out only during boot time. Please read the story.
I have couple of 1U machines. They all have two, four or more Fujitsu-Siemens
SAS 2,5" disks, which are bounded in Raid1 pairs with Linux mdadm.
First pair of disks has always two arrays (md0, md1). Small md0 is used
for booting and the rest - md1

Panics with md/gvinum/ufs
Hi,
I've done some strange(?) experiments and I managed to get
a panic of type "baddir" and just now another one that only
rebooted my system instantly without writing a vmcore.
I don't know if this is important. I could not find any
information on how gvinum detects failed hard disks.
That's why I tried something really simple.
Steps to reproduce:
1)
dd if=/dev/zero of=a

Performance problem with CentOs 4.4 Samba
Hello
I experience performance problem with CentOs 4.4 Samba 3.0
Reading files from Samba (1 client WinXP) is 3 times slower than writing

What should I look at?

The iostat command
Hi All,
I am learning iostat command to understand disk I/O statistics.
We have 2 Centos 4 servers running where oracle is installed.We
installed them 2 weeks ago. @ that time, These Servers performed well.
But, Now We have come to know that these 2 Machines are quite slow
when comparing to the first week.
So, Some say, run iostat to see statictics. I am not familiar with comamnd well.

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
Hello fellow xenophiles and happy new year!
I''ve documented the install procedure for a prototype server here since
I found no similar document
Anywhere on the net. It''s a Sarge-based Domain0 on linux root raid from
scratch, using LVM to store
the data for the domU mail server and its mailstore. I humbly submit my
notes in the hope that they are useful to some weary traveller.

[PATCH 0/8] Add MD inspection support to libguestfs
This series fixes inspection in the case that fstab contains references to md
devices. I've made a few changes since the previous posting, which I've
summarised below.
[PATCH 1/8] build: Create an MD variant of the dummy Fedora image
I've double checked that no timestamp is required in the Makefile. The script
will not run a second time to build fedora-md2.img.

Advice on setting up Raid and LVM
Hi all,
I'm setting up Centos4.2 on 2x80GB SATA drives.
The partition scheme is like this:
/boot = 300MB
/ = 9.2GB
/home = 70GB
swap = 500MB
The RAID is RAID 1.
md0 = 300MB = /boot
md1 = 9.2GB = LVM
md2 = 70GB = LVM
md3 = 500MB = LVM
Now, the confusing part is:
1. When creating VolGroup00, should I include all PV (md1, md2, md3)? Then
create the LV.
2. When setting up RAID 1, should I

"htree_dirblock_to_tree: bad entry in directory" error
Hi. I woke up this morning to find a ton of waiting emails complaining that
some cron jobs on my system couldn't run because one of my filesystems (ext3
on software RAID 1) was suddenly mounted read-only. Always nice when you're
away from the server due to travel. ;^> I investigated in the logs and
found:
