Catching non-Merb::ControllerExceptions Exceptions
Is there an agreed upon method for handling exceptions thrown by
something outside of Merb? For example, DataMapper now throws a
DataMapper::ObjectNotFoundError when a record isn''t found in the db.
I''d like to catch these exceptions and raise a C:E:NotFound exception
instead, but without having to wrap a lot of code in begin/rescue/end
blocks.
Thanks,
Mike Irwin

merbful_authentication
Since there are so many efforts at the moment to port restful_authentication
I figured I''d put a repo up so that it can be a collaborative effort.
You can pick up a copy of the repo at
git clone http://snatcht.com/git/merbful_authentication.git
at the moment the app is in a branch. Not in the master.
get the branch by
git checkout -b remote/initial origin/inital_repo

nitpicking :)
The http://merbivore.com/get_merb.html#trunk page mentions the 0.4.0
version, but 0.4.1 is out. Is this a part of the site which will be
constantly updated as part of the release cycle?
The roadmap on merb.devjavu.com has outstanding tickets for 0.4.0 and
0.4.1, yet both versions are out. Were those issues fixed, or should
they be bumped forward?
Yeah, this is really anal crap, I know. I would

merb/sequel mutex on or off? proxy_balancer or no?
Just a quick question to those of you using merb and sequel or
datamapper. How do you setup your merb app?
For example:
merb -X off -c 5, then run mod_proxy_balancer or nginx to load balance
between the 5 (or whatever #) of merb nodes?
merb -X off -d, then simply use something like proxypass
merb -c 5, keep the mutex lock and cluster it
haproxy, swiftiply, evented mongrel......

active record alternatives
Just wanted to get the opinion from merb users on active record
alternatives that you are either using or watching. I''ve been reading
a bit about sequel and data mapper. Both look pretty nice. Anyone
actively using those yet? Any others?
If anyone cares to provide their thoughts, I''d love to hear them.
BTW - is this too off-topic for this list? If so, just let me know

need help with Merb?
Ezra,
I''m sure you are really busy and can''t spend too much working on Merb.
Please let us know how we can help you.
If the plugin architecture is stable, would you be interested in some of us
porting few rails plugins over (such as attachment_fu) ?
Or is there anything else we could do during our free hacking time?
Thanks,
-Matt

Questions on writing plugin for merb
Hey all,
I am looking to write a plugin for merb and have a few queries about
how to best go about it. I have a few questions (sorry if some are
very merb newbie ones):
- It seems all the plugins are gems; I can just add dependencies (my
plugin will require soap4r) as per any usual gem spec?
- If I want my plugin to add some new generate functionality? Is this
possible? If so, are there

Official Plugins - What should they be
There''s been a lot of discussion on the #merb channel lately about
official plugins.
I''m starting this thread and hoping to get some discussion as to what
these official plugins should be, at least in the lead-up to revision
1.0
So far as I have seen on the #merb these are:
ORM''s
merb_active_record
merb_sequel
merb_datamapper
and
merb_form_controls - there is a

Merb test harness
Ezra,
* test harness in new generated merb apps with helpers for testing
merb without starting a server.
* pin down plugin arch
Seems to me that these two tasks go together unless you want to have
rspec built in Merb.
Regarding the test harness, my understanding is that:
- a developer should be able to easily write specs against a merb application.
- a developer should not need to start a merb

Proposal: Pure Regex Router
So this has been an idea ever since Rails came out. Why not use a
pure regular expression router in similar fashion to gsub? I imagine
it working something like this:
Merb::Router.prepare do |r|
r.add %r[^/(.*)/(.*)/(\d+)$], :controller => ''\1'', :action =>
''\2'', :id => ''\3''
r.add %r[^/user-(\d+)$], :user_id =>

Rails Looping with different attributes
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to solve this problem, but couldn''t able to get the
solution. I hope i will get some help here.
I am using these three find methods to get different types of
devices. I dont have any relationships between any models.
windows_devices = BaseManagedEntity.find(:all,

Expectations on Class Methods
Sorry about the non-specific subject. Here''s what I''m trying to do. I
have a method:
DataMapper::Database.setup
That I want to create an expectation on. I wrote:
DataMapper::Database.should_receive(:setup).once.and_return
(connection_hash)
The call to setup is invoked in the "Object" namespace. I.e., it is
setup code, and not in any method or class.

Controller Spec & DataMapper Chaining
Hi there,
I''m fairly new to RSpec, and DataMapper and I''m trying to write a controller
spec for an index action that will include DM query chaining.
Here is a very simplified version of the Controller#index I''m working on
def index
@widgets = Widget.all(:order => [ :name.asc ])
if params[:alpha]
@widgets = @widgets.by_alpha(params[:alpha])

Selecting subset of factor levels
Dear r-help,
I would like to select a subset of levels from a factor variable in a data frame and return a data frame.
The data set consists of 3 variables, 2 of which are factors (Site, Fish) and one numeric (Datavalue) as follows:
Site Fish Datavalue
AB 2-1 2.3
AB 2-1 2.4
AB 2-1 2.2
AB 2-2 2.6
AB 2-2 2.5
AB 2-2 2.7

Hi,
I''ve refreshed the Xen Cloud Platform (XCP) .isos on xen.org with a new
development snapshot (labelled version 0.1.1). XCP is a collaborative
effort to build a complete cloud infrastructure platform, complete with

megaraid problem
Hi,
I'm trying to install Centos 4.3 x86 on a PE 1400SC but the install doesn't
find any HD's.
So then I get the option to load a module, so I choose for the megaraid_mbox
module for the LSI LOGIC 4CH PERC but my RAID5 still doesn't get recognised.
Had the same problem 2 years ago with FC3 wich was due to the megaraid
module wich got obsolete in the 2.6 kernel but somebody filed

Routes
hi all,
I want to move some routing tasks out of the router and into the
controller. The goal is to make Merb feel less like mod_rewrite and
give the user more control at the controller. The new Router is
simple: it takes the path_info (not the whole request) then outputs a
controller class and some parameters from the path matching. The rest
of the routing would be done at the controller level.

Pairwise comparison after repeated measures ANOVA
I am analyzing some data obtained after measuring some parameters at
different times in samples obtained from many subjects. The model is
quite simple: aov(parameter ~ Time + Error(Subject/Time))
Now I want to make a pairwise comparison between the levels of Time.
However, I have not find how to do such a thing. I cannot use TukeyHSD
or pairwise.t.test, I supposse. Maybe using contrasts?
