web based mail packages for CentOS
Hello Everyone, I was using OpenGroupware but just hosed my system. Since I'm starting from scratch I would like to know what everyone's using for web based mail. I currently implemented cyrus-imapd and postfix which I used before. I was going to give dovecot a try but it wouldn't start even though it was supposed to be easier. I would like to move my postfix to a chroot but have

using windbind to connect to AD
Hello, After a couple of years using Samba as a DC I figured I would start working it the other way around. I'm using CentOS, the latest and tried to use the GUI manager. I am sort of confused as there are acutally 2 windows. I filled out both and supplied the name of the AD administrator. Do I just put the AD domain in there with .realm after it? (eg testdomain.com.realm)? I tried with

RPM packages for RHEL4
Hi, - the download page links to /RPM/rhel/ instead of /RPM/rhel4/ - the location of repos.d in DAG's yum (I guess where most people would get yum for RHEL) is /etc/yum.repos.d/ rhel4 works with yum but ... could you sign the packages - it's risky to use an unsigned repository (only have to compromise the web server to own any system updating from it)? up2date requires a

Can't change password with Windows XP (Change password feature)
Hello Everyone, I've been trying to figure out why I can't change passwords with my windows clients. I thought that at when I first built my smb.conf I could. I'm running RHEL3 (I also have another system at a different location running FC3 with the same problem ). I've been looking through my smb.conf (see excerpts): # You may wish to use password encryption. Please read #

problem building R packages on RHEL 4 Linux with Intel compilers
I would like to build R and packages with the Intel 10.1 compilers in RHEL4. Using the flags below, I can successfully build R using a vanilla ./configure, but when I install new packages they build with gcc. My sysadmin suggested adding the flags to ./configure as illustrated below, but then the R build blows up with the config tail output that follows far below. It looks like gcc is still being

RHEL 4 + 5 wallpaper?
Hi, I know I know: upstream minus artwork. Nevertheless, I admit I'd like to simply use the RHEL background wallpaper for my desktop. Something like: http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/images/rhel4/44-Desktop.jpg Can't seem to find these (4 and 5). Any idea? Cheers, Niki

beta5 builds under RHEL
Hi, beta4 built under RHEL4, RHEL5 and RHEL6 (the latter being the public beta). beta5 now builds only for RHEL5, the other two fail with: strnum.c: In function `str_to_llong': strnum.c:139: error: `LLONG_MIN' undeclared (first use in this function) strnum.c:139: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once strnum.c:139: error: for each function it appears in.) openssl package possibly different in CentOS and RHEL
I've just had a problem on one of my x86_64 boxes with openssl package. I have an 32-bit only application that requires openssl libraries. When I attempted to install openssl.i686 (in addition to already present openssl.x86_64), it failed. The rpm complained about conflicting files (they were all manpages), and I needed to use --force option to install the thing. The good folks

USB key problems on enterprise systems
Just came up with some interesting (read: frustrating) problems on RHEL3 and RHEL4 today at work, and I've confirmed one of the problems on my up-to-date CentOS4 system at home. I was forced into releasing some RHEL3 systems to replace our aging RH9 systems without time for adequate testing, and that leads to problems like these. On our legacy RH9 systems, mounting a USB key is no problem,

CentOS/RHEL versioning scheme?
I am a bit puzzled at the versioning scheme of the RedHat clone family. RedHat seems to use integer 4, Tao and Centos does the same. If you do rpm -q --qf '%{version}\n' -f /etc/redhat-release you get '4'. However, Scientific Linux uses 4.0, and that seems to me to be a more logical choise, since presumable there are going to be versions 4.1, 4.2, etc. Is there any good

New RPM packages for CentOS4.0
Greetings list, It's been a while since I've been able to focus on asterisk packaging but this weekend I took some time to audit and recompile packages for CentOS 4.2. You can find them here. ftp://ftp.linuxsys.com/ftp/pub/releases/CentOS-4.0 You have your choice of 1.2.1 or 1.0.10 releases. If you need zaptel modules then install this kernel as well:

benchmarking R installations
Recently I posted to this list with a question about using the Intel 10.1 compilers in building R and one response was basically, "why in the heck would you want to do that?" The answer is that my sysadmin believes that there will be a performance boost with the Intel vs. Gnu compilers on our Linux cluster, of which I am one of many users. Wanting to be a good citizen and use my machine

Gotchas around upgrading from an old version (0.25.4) to a newer version.
I''ve been tasked at my workplace to upgrade our puppet installation to a more modern version. Currently all the environments run a RubyGem version of puppet 0.25.4 on mostly RHEL/Centos 5.3 - 5.5 (there are, like most environments, a few laggards running RHEL4 or new machines running CentOS 6). The plan is to upgrade these to the most stable version of Puppet, which at the time of

Fedora packages or Enterprise packages of Samba on RHEL4?
Hello, Can somebody of the Samba team explain me the difference of Fedora packages or Enterprise packages ( <http://enterprisesamba.com/> http://enterprisesamba.com/) of Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4? I tried to find any information about this subject, but googleing doesn't help me. The standard Samba package (3.0.10EL) of RHEL4 doesn't communicate with a W2k3 server
