XFS Issues
We are in the process of migrating XFS filesystems from one storage
array to another. Both are arrays are mounted locally on the same
CentOS 4.4 system (x86_64). We are running kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp
along with kernel-module-xfs-2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp-0.1-3.
The issue we are having is that while the copy is running (using rsync)
the system will log these message periodically:

Jigdoes of CentOS 4.4 and 5.0 i386/x86_64 CD/DVD available.
I've gone through the trouble (after some 10 rounds I finally have
something I'm happy with) and generated jigdo/template files for
CentOS 5.0 iso's (CD/DVD i386/x86_64) (and CentOS 4.4 while I was at it:
CD/DVD/ServerCD SRPMS/i386/x86_64).
(and I started on this before the thread about creating the DVD's from the
CD's started ;-) )
They are available at:

Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.plus.c4 doesn´t boot
Hi,
after upgrading with yum upgrade my server doesn?t boot with kernel
2.6.9-42.0.2.plus.c4 d. Kernel CentOS-4 x86_64 (2.6.9-34.EL) works just
fine.
I use 2 HDD as RAID1. Unfortunaly this is a root server so i do not have
any console output. This is rather disappointing cause i run mission
critical applications on the server.
I guess the updates should be used with more caution.

Stumped: kernel 2.6.18-8 source doesn't build???
I installed the kernel-2.6.18-8.el5.src.rpm today and went to build
it, but it fails with this error:
$ rpmbuild -bp --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec
Building target platforms: x86_64
Building for target x86_64
error: Failed build dependencies:
unifdef is needed by kernel-2.6.18-8.el5.x86_64
I double checked and this appears to be the latest kernel source rpm
on centos/5.0/os/SRPMS.

SOLVED: Re: KStars on CentOS 4.4?
I was able to install the kdeedu RPM, from the Fedora Core 3 Install
DVD, without any problem, on my CentOS 4.4 box and KStars is up and
running and has been updated. :-)
The bad news is that I didn't learn anything, by doing it this quick
and simple way, so now I'm going to begin reading about creating my own
RPMs.
When I get the CentOS 5.0 install DVD, that will be another issue

rsync and swapping
hi all,
I use rsync to copy/backup ALL my stuff to another disk.
When I run this seems like my machine (4 GIG ram centos 5.1)
now begins to swap out more programs. Is there a way to reduce
that swapping? I am running with echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
I simply mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/backup; mkdir /mnt/backup/month.day.year
then rsync -a /home /mnt/backup/mon.day.year

machine with 2 ethernet cards e1000 and forcedeth
I am using centos 5 x86_64 AMD64 X2 4200+. I am current on yum update.
My machine has two ethernet cards. e1000 (eth0) and forcedeth (eth1)
[root at fsdsigns2 ~]# more /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 e1000
alias eth1 forcedeth
sometimes on boot the forcedeth driver thinks it is eth0:
[root at fsdsigns2 ~]# dmesg | grep eth
forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.60.

machine with many filesystem errors
I have a machine with many file system errors.
I booted into rescue mode - I tried to run "e2fsck -p /dev/hda1"
but it says something about inconsistency and cannot run with -p.
So then I just run "e2fsck /dev/hda1" and I have to answer MANY
fixes with a "y".
How can you just tell it to fix it and dont ask?
I'd hate to say how many 'y' I have answered.

4.4 i386 Server CD actually 64-bit?
Just downloaded the CentOS 4.4 i386 Server CD. The md5sum on the file
matches:
My file: 8ccb89265b16ca551bd04a15b3cf59a1 (CentOS-4.4.ServerCD-i386.iso)
md5sum.servercd: 8ccb89265b16ca551bd04a15b3cf59a1 (CentOS-4.4.ServerCD-i386.iso)
However, when I boot up with the CD on a Compaq Armada E500 laptop (Pentium

Bug in find command?
I'm going to bugz this if no one tells me I made another brain-damaged
error here. Also, if I can get one confirmation, it'll let me breath
easier. I ran a version searching for ".cmd" and ".c" just trying to
convince myself I'm not *that* brain-damaged.
You'd think after all these years that regex compilation would be pretty
darn stable... Oh! Forgot it was

correct way to set centos 5 amd64 to performance mode
what is the correct way to set an AMD64 CPU into performance mode at
boot time?
I have tried doing service network cpuspeed start, then killall -SIGUSR1
cpuspeed
and this works but I cant get it working this way at boot. I have set
chkconfig cpuspeed on but that
didnt seem to help.
I just want this particular machine to boot in performance mode and stay
there.

quick question on machine name
I have a box I just installed centos 4.5 on.
The name of the machine in /etc/hosts is TomSlick.xyz.com TomSlick (for
example).
the name of the machine in /etc/sysconfig/network HOSTNAME=TomSlick.xyz.com
Note both are upper case:
Yet when I login as root the prompt is showing me tomslick in lower case
not a combo upper lower.
I have grepped /etc and below for tomslick and cannot find why this

centos 5 is reporting invalid mac address
I have not see this before...
Installing centos 5 on m2n-mx motherboard the onboard forcedeth
driver loads and says invalid mac address "97:42:40:F3:18:00"
Anyone else ever seen this before? Is it fixable? I went to support.asus.com
and searched for "invalid mac address" they say sorry no data.

yum update change kernel auto rebuild drivers centos 5.1
Is there any "formal" mechanizism by which after a yum update , and
kernel change
that "drivers" can automatically be recompiled and a service restarted?
Do I need to make my own?
Thanks,
