remote rsync process dies, local hangs
I've got an rsync job which is consistently failing, but I've been unable to diagnose the problem. FAQ/Google/docs/etc. checked and no luck. Basically, it looks like the rsync process invoked on the far end is exiting, and then the local process waits until the timeout and exits. Both systems are Sun boxes, Ultra 10 or better with 256+ MB of memory. Rsync version is 2.5.0 on the local

R equivalent to Matlab's Bayes net toolbox
Hi, I'm attending summer School at UCLA (IPAM) on "probabilistics models of cognition". I have been an R-user since v. 1.4.1, but was trained in the frequentist tradition (as most psychologists!). I found that all faculty here use matlab and Murphy's bayes net toolbox. I have not had the need to use matlab before, and would love to stick to R for graphics models and

What do you guys use for design and modeling (and don''t answer pen and paper, because I use those to, they just don''t look so good in a project report ;) ) I have tried stuff like UMLet (free), Altova UMLsomething (pay), dia (no comprende ;) ), NetBeans UML (slow). But none worked just the way I wanted them to. Any suggestions? Christian...

Trouble getting past net join ads...
I am in the process of getting samba working again with Activer Directory. Recently our IT department upgraded their windows server to 2008. I am following the approach described here: http://www.surlyjake.com/linux/samba/join-debian-lenny-to-active-directory-using-samba/ I am able to get kerberos to issue a ticket, but where I am running into a wall is with the net join ads part...

wavelet toolbox
Is there a wavelet toolbox in R available that can be compared to the Matlab toolbox for wavelets. Does this toolbox offer the possibility to calculated approximations with different wavelets such as Daubechies 2, Daubechies 3, etc, Symmlet 3, Symmlets 5, etc, Coiflets and so on. I have tried to proceed in this way but I was only able to use one sort of wavelets with a pre-fixed order (i.e.

[PATCH] configure.in: fix AC_ARG_ENABLE and AC_ARG_WITH
From: "Anthony G. Basile" <basile at opensource.dyc.edu> The current configure.in file does not correctly make use of these macros. The resulting configure file will therefore enable an item even if --disable-FEATURE is given. This patch restores the intended behavior. --- configure.in | 50 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++----------------- 1 files changed, 33 insertions(+),

[Bridge] Re: [2.4.22] bad interaction between e100 and bridge: BUG at dev.c:991!
Could the problem be that the e100 can do IP receive checksumming on the board, but the eepro driver doesn't enable it. When the board is doing checksum offload, then the csum field isn't set. Please try disabling receive checksumming on the e100 driver modprobe e100 XsumRX=0 If this is the problem, it exists both 2.4 and 2.6. On Wed, 27 Aug 2003 18:24:57 +0200 Hannes Schulz

Regarding your distributed text mining with tm
Hello, I had been using R for text mining already. I wanted to use R for large scale text processing and for experiments with topic modeling. I started reading tutorials and working on some of those. I will now put down my understanding of each of the tools: 1) R text mining toolbox: Meant for local (client side) text processing and it uses the XML library 2) Hive: Hadoop interative, provides the
