How to compare the effect of a variable across regression models?
Hello,
I would like, if it is possible, to compare the effect of a variable across
regression models. I have looked around but I haven't found anything. Maybe
someone could help? Here is the problem:
I am studying the effect of a variable (age) on an outcome (local recurrence:
lr). I have built 3 models:
- model 1: lr ~ age y = \beta_(a1).age
- model 2: lr ~ age + presentation

VGAM and vglm
Hi Folks,
I wonderif someone who is familiar with the details
of vglm in the VGAM package can assist me. I'm new
to using it, and there doesn;t seem much in the
documentation that's relevant to the question below.
Say I have a vector x of 0/1 responses and another
vector y of 0/1 responses, these in fact being a
bivariate set of 0/1 responses equivalent to
cbind(x,y).
E.g.

multinomial logistic regression with equality constraints?
I'm interested in doing multinomial logistic regression with equality
constraints on some of the parameter values. For example, with
categorical outcomes Y_1 (baseline), Y_2, and Y_3, and covariates X_1
and X_2, I might want to impose the equality constraint that
\beta_{2,1} = \beta_{3,2}
that is, that the effect of X_1 on the logit of Y_2 is the same as the
effect of X_2 on the

nlme vs gls
Dear List:
My question is more statistical than R oriented (although it originates
from my work with nlme). I know statistical questions are occasionally
posted, so I hope my question is relevant to the list as I cannot turn
up a solution anywhere else. I will frame it in the context of an R
related issue.
To illustrate the problem, consider student achievement test score data

Poisson Regression
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if there is an R-package to fit the following Poisson
regression model
log(\lambda_{ijk}) = \phi_{i} + \alpha_{j} + \beta_{k}
i=1,\cdots,N (subjects)
j=0,1 (two levels)
k=0,1 (two levels)
treating the \phi_{i} as nuinsance parameters.
Thank you very much

VGAM package released on CRAN
Dear useRs,
upon request, the VGAM package (currently version 0.7-1) has been
officially released on CRAN (the package has been at my website
http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~yee/VGAM for a number of years now).
VGAM implements a general framework for several classes of
regression models using iteratively reweighted least squares
(IRLS). The key ideas are Fisher scoring, generalized linear

Why does lmList() fail when lm() doesn't?
Dear r-helpers,
Can anyone suggest why lm() doesn't complain here:
summary(osss.lm1 <- lm(logOdds ~ c.setSize %in% task, data = osss))
whereas in package:nlme (and in package:lme4)
osss.lmL <- lmList(logOdds ~ c.setSize %in% task | subj, data = osss)
# Error in `contrasts<-`(`*tmp*`, value = "contr.treatment") :

expression()
Hi,
I'm trying to use expression() to write a text to a graphic in the margin.
Using:
mtext(expression(beta),side=1,line=2)
writes a perfect beta greek character, but I need to add a subindex
"max", and I'm trying:
mtext(paste(expression(beta),"max"),side=1,line=2)
simply writes "beta max" in the plot.
Please, Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Kalman Smoothing - time-variant parameters (sspir)
Dear R-brains,
I'm rather new to state-space models and would benefit from the extra
confidence in using the excellent package sspir.
In a one-factor model, If I am trying to do a simple regression where
I assume the intercept is constant and the 'Beta' is changing, how do
I do that? How do i Initialize the filter (i.e. what is appropriate to
set m0, and C0 for the example below)?

Greetings. I have a question with mixed beta regression model in nlme.
*Dear R-help:
My name is Rodrigo and I have a question with nlme package
in R to fit a mixed beta regression model. The details of the model are:
Suppose that:*
*j in {1, ..., J}* *(level 1)*
*i in {1, ..., n_j}* *(level 2)*
*y_{ij} ~ Beta(mu_{ij} * phi_{ij}; (1 - mu_{ij}) * phi_{ij})
y_{ij} = mu_{ij} + w_{ij}
*
*with*
*logit(mu_{ij}) = Beta_{0i} + Beta_{1i} * x1_{ij} + b2 * x2_{ij}

Greetings. I have a question with mixed beta regression model in nlme (corrected version).
*Dear R-help:
My name is Rodrigo and I have a question with nlme package
in R to fit a mixed beta regression model. I'm so sorry. In the last
email, I forgot to say that W is also a unknown parameter in the mixed
beta regression model. In any case, here I send you the correct formulation.

function to convert lm model to LaTeX equation
Dear list,
I've tried several times to wrap my head around the Design library,
without much success. It does some really nice things, but I'm often
uncomfortable because I don't understand exactly what it's doing.
Anyway, one thing I really like is the latex.ols() function, which
converts an R linear model formula to a LaTeX equation.
So, I started writing a latex.lm() function

Testing relationships in logistic regression
I am interested in knowing whether and how I can test the significance of
the relationship between my continuous predictor variable (a covariate) and
my binary response variable according to two different groups, my
categorical predictor variable, in a logistic regression model (glm).
Specifically, can I determine whether the relationships are identical (the
hypothesis of coincidence), or whether

Problems and bugs in vgam()
Hello R-Users,
I have recently run into several problems using vgam() in the VGAM
package. I am hoping someone might have some solutions...
Briefly, I have been trying to fit GAM models for zero-altered negative
binomial models.
1. When fitting smoothed parameters (e.g. s(X, df=2)) changing the
degrees-of-freedom has no effect on the level of smoothing (e.g. number

Incompatibility with VGAM
I just discovered that when the VGAM package (not on CRAN) is loaded,
glm() doesn't work. This is because VGAM defines a family function()
which gets found
by glm() in place of the family function from stats.
Then VGAM:::family returns an object which doesn't have a $family
component, (it has a component
$vfamily).
I thought namespaces should protect us from this happening?

Bug in VGAM z value and coefficient ?
Dear,
When i multiply the y of a regression by 10, I would expect that the
coefficient would be multiply by 10 and the z value to stay constant. Here
some reproducible code to support the case.

library(VGAM)

I am bit confused because some day ago this error message did not show up
