dotplots with error bars
Does anyone have any recommendations for producing dotplots with error bars? Are there packages available for this? I searched far and wide and cannot find a suitable option. I am trying to produce publication-quality figures for my thesis results. Dotplots (Cleveland dotplots) are a much better form of summarizing barchart-type data. It does not appear that any of the main plotting packages in r

Cleveland Dot plots: tick labels and error bars
Dear list, I've been learning how to make a 2x2 paneled dotplot in lattice without any previous experience using lattice. my code thusfar is: nut<-read.table("/Users/colinwahl/Desktop/nutsimp_noerror.csv", T, sep= ",") attach(nut) nut1<-data.frame(Nitrate, Total_Nitrogen, Phosphate, Total_Phosphorus) nut1<-as.matrix(nut1) rownames(nut1)<-group

lattice 3x3 plot: force common y-limits accross rows and align x-axes
Good afternoon, I would like to ask for help in controlling y-axis limits and labels in lattice doplots. Unfortunately, the problem is somewhat convoluted, please bear with the long explanation. I would like to create a 3x3 lattice of dotplots, say subject ~ count. The plot is conditioned on variables treatment and risk: subject ~ count | treatment + risk. In the experiment, not all subjects

Colour code y-axis labels on a dot plot
Dear R helpers I would like to be able to colour code the y-axis labels on a complex dot plot by a variable known as company (of which there are only two). The code is below and data attached. Thanks MarkM library("lattice") library(latticeExtra) # for mergedTrellisLegendGrob() # set size of the window windows(height=10, width=7,rescale=c("fixed")) ##read the data to a

Problem with range()
Hello, I'm using range do define boundaries for a linear model, so the line I graph is only graphed for the range of data. There are NAs in the data, but I dont remember this being a problem before. I typed na.action=na.omit anyway, which has usually solved any NA issues in the past. Any idea why R cant do vector functions for these data? Solution? Thanks, Colin Wahl M.S. Biology candidate

dotplot() lattice charts return blank image (jpeg, bmp, png) file
Thanks in advance for the help. Trying to run a basic dotplot in lattice from R command line. When the file is created, in Fedora, it is blank image (jpeg, bmp, png). Image produces correctly in Windows environment. Libraries lattice and latticeExtra are loaded. Code: ----------------- jpeg(file = "/tmp/img/temp31.jpg", width = 768, height=768) xy <- dotplot(1:10) print(xy)

Muchas gracias Jose Luis [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

dotplot in ".R" with lattice & latticeExtra: proper visualization
Dear everyone, I'm trying to do a dotplot with the libraries "lattice" and "latticeExtra". However, no proper representation of the values on the vertical y-axis is done by ".R". Instead of choosing the actual values of the numeric variable, ".R" plots the rank of the value. That is, there are values [375, 500, 625, 750, ..., 3000] and ".R"

segplot (latticeExtra)
Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble with 'scales="free"' in the segplot() function of latticeExtra. Say we need panels for each year, showing only those counties that are represented in each one: ---<--------------------cut here---------------start------------------->--- library(latticeExtra) data(USCancerRates) uscr.w <- subset(USCancerRates, state ==

lattice-dotplot: resize axis
dear all, I want to make a dotplot with ratings from Items in 6 ItemsGroups. I reordered the items by rating within each group. I plotted the items by rating conditional on ItemGroup. The ordering works as I wanted but my y-aches labels (items) within each ItemGroup are now unequally spaced, e.g., in some panels there is a gap between one lower rated item and the next higher, to give a picture

Barplots and error indicators: Some R-Code
I' ve seen that several people are looking for a function that creates a barplot with an error indicators (I was one of them myself). Maybe you will find the following code helpful (There are some examples how to use it at the end): # Creates a barplot. #bar.plot() needs a datavector for the height of bars and a error #indicator for the interval #many of the usual R parameters can be set:

multiple x factors using the sciplot package
Dear R community, I am a beginner using the sciplot package to graph barplots. I would like to be able to graph two x factors (Sampling.year and Period). Sampling.year: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 Period: First, Second, Total The parameter "group" is the different species I looked at. They can be seen in the legend. The parameter "response" is the Average percentage

Cleveland's Cut-and-Stack Plot
Hi, Is there a function in R that does Cleveland's Cut-and-Stack plot (Page 190 -- 191, The Elements of Graphing Data, William S. Cleveland)? Or do I need to do it the hard way, i.e. set par(mfrow = c(m, n)) then do it one-by-one? (I have a time series data set that is almost identical to the description in Cleveland's book, hence I'm interested in trying the Cut-and-Stack plot)

Step-by-step guide for PowerPoint under wine?
Dear All, is there a step-by-step guide on how to install PowerPoint 2000 with wine (I'm running PhotoShop 3 and UltraEdit with it, perfectly !) System: SuSE Personal 9.1, wine -version is 20040213-41. I tried to start the install with 'wine /path/to/CD-ROM/setup.exe', it takes forever and finally it returns with 'file not found'. The files are all there, expect that on the

Dot plot - equivalent of MINITAB
hi folks, Bit of a newbie, but I've spent a fair bit of time looking for an answer on this, with no joy. Can anyone help me? Dataset: A single column of values in a csv file (eg. 52, 53, 54, 85, etc) Goal: In Minitab, you have what they call a dot plot. It's a histogram, where a single dot represents a set of identical values (eg. 57, 57, 57 would be one dot). Multiple dots are

Vector with factors inside lists/tuples
Hi, this seems like a strange question, but in R is there a function that can handle vectors containing factors inside lists/tuples? Or is there some other approach/functions I can use? Like for example V1 "{"Harry","Brown")" "{"Brown","Harry")" I want to use these variables in a machine learning setting, And don't want to convert

Adding percentage to Pie Charts (was (no subject))
Have you read the books by Cleveland? His experiments show that most people do better estimating things and comparing things on a linear scale rather than looking at angles and areas (also see http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/twiki/pub/Main/StatGraphCourse/graphsco urse.pdf) With a dot chart you can set the axis to go from 0 to the total of all groups (see the example I sent before, it could

I have been trying to start up Icecast2 using http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_webradio_with_icecast2_ices2 as my docset. The icecast server comes up; I'm able to go to http://localhost:8000/ and see the pages. I can't seem to get the ices2 part working. I use the suggested config file: [...] <input> <module>playlist</module> <param

Is there any benefit to using NetworkManager on a server with a static IP?
I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get a simple two NIC bond to work. Got really odd behavior from service network restart, then finally decided to disable NetworkManager. Voila! Bonding and the network service script starts working just the way I expect. Does anyone here actually use NetworkManager on anything but a laptop or desktop? I can't seem to figure out a reason
