googleVis plot and knitr/sweave
Dear R users.
I'm currently making a report with knitr (RStudio) where I would like to
plot a googleVis map. However, the map generated is an HTML file which I
don't know how to integrate it in my report.
So my question is how to include a map generated with googleVis in a PDF
created with knitr/sweave.
Regards,
Phil

googleVis motionchart - slow with Date class
Hi,
I am trying to create a googleVis motion chart with monthly data. When formatting the date column as a Date class variable, the plot as presented in the browser becomes considerably slower and very prone to crashing the browser. To illustrate this issue I have modified the WorldBank demo.

I''ve got the latest win32-mmap code checked into CVS. Unfortunately, it
seems that I''m not able to open an existing mapping and retrieve set

Overlaying maps
I'm having difficulty overlaying maps when writing to a file graphics
device. My command sequence has the structure
plot(map1)
par(new = T)
plot(map2)
On the screen device, it works fine. When I attempt something like
png(file = "map.png")
plot(map1)
par(new = T)
plot(map2)
dev.off()
only the last map appears, the previous ones having been cleared. Can
someone clarify?
Thanks,

Overimposing one map in ssplot onto another
Hello!
I have 2 maps - both created in ssplot and both identical in terms of
outline. Is there any way to superimpose Map1 (which has black borders
between Canadian provinces) onto Map2 (which is also a map of Canada)?
Thanks a lot for your hints!

Is a point into an ellipse
Hi,
I drew an ellipse with the package ellipse. Now I would like to know if
a point is inside the ellipse. Is any R functions to do it without
computing the equation of the ellipse manually? Thanks.
For example, if I do "plot(ellipse(0.8), type = 'l')", I would like to
know if (0,1) belongs to the drawn ellipse.

Alain

how to import from SPSS without shortening variable names
Hello,
as I import '.sav' files from SPSS, the variable names are shortened to
8 uppercase characters:
"sex_of_therapist" will become "SEX_OF_TH"
Is there a way around this? How can I retrieve the full names?

Speed up graphics output?
Hi all,
I've written some code to generate 4 maps per screen and write the output to a jpeg. The output is fairly quick at the start (about 5 jpegs per minute) and then slows down greatly (1-2 jpegs per minute).
Is there some way to speed it up? One of my thoughts is to keep the base map static on the screen and just update the points that are being plotted on the map (with the exception
