problems with nonlinear fits using nls
Hello colleagues,
I am attempting to determine the nonlinear least-squares estimates of
the nonlinear model parameters using nls. I have come across a common
problem that R users have reported when I attempt to fit a particular
3-parameter nonlinear function to my dataset:
Error in nls(r ~ tlm(a, N.fix, k, theta), data = tlm.data, start =
list(a = a.st, :

problems with nls?
I need to make nonlinear regression with the posterior script, but how is the
problem? I have error in library (nls), package 'nls' has been merged into
'stats'.
I need help?
What other forms I have to make nonlinear regression? and how I find to
calculate statistics y residuals, scatterplot.
thanks

R-beta: ms, nls, etc?
I tried to ?ms, ?nls and apparently these aren't implemented on R yet.
However I seem to remember postings on this list having to do with fitting
nonlinear models (no I don't mean GLM type fits, I have a REAL nonlinear
model: y=ax^b + c). So please tell me if it is possible to fit nonlinear
models in R (by least squares or ML).
Thanks!

Covariates in NLS (Multiple nonlinear regression)
Dear R-users,
I am trying to create a model using the NLS function, such that:
Y = f(X) + q + e
Where f is a nonlinear (Weibull: a*(1-exp(-b*X^c)) function of X and q is a covariate (continous variable) and e is an error term. I know that you can create multiple nonlinear regressions where x is polynomial for example, but is it possible to do this kind of thing when x is a function with unknown

Nonlinear Least Squares nls() programming help
Hi, I am trying to use the nls() function to closely approximate a vector of
values, colC and I'm running into trouble. I am not sure how if I am asking
the program to do what I think its doing, because the same minimization in
Excel's Solver does not run into problems. If anyone can tell me what is
going wrong, and why I'm getting a singular convergence(7) error, please
tell me. I

Is DUD available in nls()?
SAS has DUD (Does not Use Derivatives)/Secant Method for nonlinear
regression, does R offer this option for nonlinear regression?
I have read the helpfile for nls() and could not find such option, any
suggestion?
Thanks,
Derek

Error messages using nonlinear regression function (nls)
Hi all,
I am trying to use nonlinear regression (nls) to analyze some seed germination data, but am having problems with error codes.
The data that I have closely matches the germination dataset included in the drc package.
Here is the head of the data

Question on CAR appendix on NLS
The PDF file on the web, which is an appendix on nonlinear regression
associated with the CAR book, is very nice.
When I ran through the code presented there, I found something
odd. The code does a certain model in 3 ways: Vanilla NLS (using
numerical differentation), Analytical derivatives (where the user
supplies the derivatives) and analytical derivatives (using automatic
differentiation). The

nls confidence intervals
Hi,
Does anyone know how to compute the confidence prediction intervals for
a nonlinear least squares models (nls)?
I was trying to use the function 'predict' as I usually do for other
models fitting (glm, lm, gams...), but it seems that se.fit, and
interval computation is not implemented for the nls...
Cheers

NLS
Hello,
I try to do a very simple nonlinear regression. The function is
y = (b0 + b1*x1 + b2*x2 + b3*x3) * x4^b4
I think I do everything well, but as I set the starting value of b4 to 0 (it
is the theoretically sane starting value), it converges very quickly, and to
the wrong solution. Wrong in a sense, that 1) we do not expect this and 2) we
do not get this on E-Views, Stata and SAS. I do not

nonlinear regression: nls, gnls, gnm, other?
Hi all,
I'm trying to fit a nonlinear (logistic-like) regression, and I'd like
to get some recommendations for which package to use.
The expression I want to fit is something like:
y ~ A * exp(X * Beta1) / (1 + exp(-(x + X * Beta2 - xmid)/scal))
Basically, it's a logistic function, but I want to be able to modify
the saturation amplitude by a few parameters (Beta1) and shift the

[nls] singular gradient
Hi, I am new to R. I don't have strong background of statistics. I am
a student of Geotechnical Engineering. I tried to run a nonlinear
regression for a three-variable function, that is
N = f(CSR, ev) # N is a function of CSR and ev, and N = CSR/(A
+B*CSR), wherer (A,B) are function of ev.
N, CSR and ev are observed in the experiments.
Following is my R script.

specifying a function in nls
Hello. I am trying to understand the syntax of the nonlinear least
squares function (nls) when the function definition is made outside of
the call. Here is the context.
1. If I specify the following command, it works fine:
> fit2<-nls(
+ A~Am*(1-exp(-alpha*(I-LCP))),data=dat1,
+ start=list(Am=3.6,alpha=0.01,LCP=20))
2. Now, I want to be able to specify the function definition

a series of data sets using nls and the port algorithm from within a loop.

… estimate starting values for Amax and Q.LCP…

Confidence intervals for predicted values in nls
Dear all
I have tried to estimate the confidence intervals for predicted values of a
nonlinear model fitted with nls. The function predict gives the predicted
values and the lower and upper limits of the prediction, when the class of
the object is lm or glm. When the object is derived from nls, the function
predict (or predict.nls) gives only the predicted values. The se.fit and
interval aguments

nls question
Just a quick question. Is there a way to easily specify factor levels in a function definition within nls? For example, I am trying to fit a 3 parameter, nonlinear Weibull function to tree height and I would like to have results by species (or down the road a bit, by plot). I am hoping there is someway to do it easily, similar to the "gas example" in the ANCOVA chapter in Modern

singular gradient error in nls
I am trying to fit a nonlinear regression to infiltration data in order to
determine saturated hydraulic conductivity and matric pressure. The
original equation can be found in Bagarello et al. 2004 SSSAJ (green-ampt
equation for falling head including gravity). I am also VERY new to R and
to nonlinear regressions. I have searched the posts, but am still unable to
determine why my data come up

nls problem
Hi list,
I tried to use nls to do some nonlinear least square fitting on my data with
340 observations and 10 variables, but as I called nls() function, I got
this error message:
Error in qr.qty(QR, resid) : 'qr' and 'y' must have the same number of rows
Then I traced back a little bit into nls() function, the error seemed to
happen when calling nlsiter() internal function, but
