interpolation using akima (PR#8174)
Full_Name: Jonathan Lees Version: 2.0.1 OS: linux-gnu Submission from: (NULL) (152.2.75.65) there is a problem with calculating the convex hull in 2-D interpolation using the codes interp fromt eh akima package: x =c(0.6505304, -1.1821562, -0.2600792, 0.7913716) y = c(1.0424226, 0.1754048, -1.4523334, 0.2349112) z = c(0.000, 3.042, 0.370, 0.122) EX = seq(from=min(x), to=max(x),

interp() function output not continue
Dear List, I'm using interp() to prepare 3d data for plotting with the contour() function. If have x,y and z data. All are arrays. X and Y are sampled in an orderly fashion on a grid (a circular sub-area of a grid - see plot). I'm trying to use interp() to get x and y arrays and a z matrix that can be fed to contour(). This is the command:

adaptive optimization of mesh size
DeaR list, I'm running an external program that computes some electromagnetic response of a scattering body. The numerical scheme is based on a discretization with a characteristic mesh size "y". The smaller y is, the better the result (but obviously the computation will take longer). A convergence study showed the error between the computed values and the exact solution

How do I wrap a long mixed text/math expression in an axis label?
I would like to wrap a y-axis label onto two lines. My label is an expression containing both text and math symbols. I have looked at plotmath, strsplit(), strwrap(), deparse(), do.call(), substitute() and bquote(). Based on previous posts, I can get plain text to wrap. However, when I try these methods on my label, the exact string is returned, rather than evaluating the math symbols. My

duplicate data
Hello, I have a long list of x-, y- and z-data and try to generate a heatmap. Obviously there are several data with identical x- and y-values. I get the following error message: Error in interp.old(x, y, z, xo = xo, yo = yo, ncp = 0, extrap = extrap, : duplicate data points: need to set 'duplicate = ..' Unfortunately there seems no help screen on "duplicate". I'd prefer

help with nlme function
Hello. I am trying to fit a nonlinear mixed model involving 3 parameters. I have successfully made a self-starting function. getInitial() correctly outputs the initial estimates. I can also use the nlsList with this function to get the separate nonlinear fits by group. However, I get an error message when using the nlme function. Here is the relevent code:

avoiding termination of nls given convergence failure
Hello. I have a script in which I repeatedly fit a nonlinear regression to a series of data sets using nls and the port algorithm from within a loop. making self-starting function for nls
Hello. Following pages 342-347 of Pinheiro & Bates, I am trying to write a self-starting nonlinear function (a non-rectagular hyperbola) to be used in nonlinear least squares regression (and eventually for a mixed model). When I use the getInitial function for my self-starting function I get the following error message: > getInitial(photo~NRhyperbola(Irr,theta,Am,alpha,Rd),dat) Error

still have problem with krige and border option
Dear all, I would like to estimate rainfall with the krige function. First, I produce a polygon of my region of interest (where poly_test.txt is a x,y suite of points defining a polygon, obtained with the grass v.out.ascii command) : user>border_limite<-read.table("/home/lionel/rwork/poly_test.txt",header=FALSE) user>polygone<-list(x=border_limite[,1],y=border_limite[,2])

akima interp results to zero with less than 10 values
Dear all I have this table > dput(mat) mat <- structure(c(2, 16, 9, 2, 16, 1, 1, 4, 7, 7, 44.52, 42.8, 43.54, 40.26, 40.09), dim = c(5L, 3L)) And I want to calculate result for contour or image plots as I did few years ago. However interp does not compute the z values and gives me zeros in z matrix. library(akima) > interp(mat[,1], mat[,2], mat[, 3], nx=5, ny=5) $x [1] 2.0 5.5

akima interp results to zero with less than 10 values
The akima package has a problematic license (it doesn't allow commercial use), so it's been recommended that people use the interp package instead. When I use interp::interp instead of akima::interp, I get reasonable output from your example. So that's another reason to drop akima... Extracting Krig results
I'm new at this, so please bear with me. I am trying to get Krig (actually tps) results into a data frame at a set of points. Frankly, all I really need is to query the Krig on a specific XY pair and return a result. I can carry the rest. I am using tps from the fields package. Here's the code I use to create the Krig object: =========== Snip! =============================== dCurr

Applying interpolation within a convex hull
Hi there, I have been using the Tps function (within the Fields package) for a while now to interpolate different sedimentary units. Due to the method of formation of the units I know that at some edges the thickness of the unit decreases to zero. I was wondering if there was someway to specify that the interpolation only occurs within the convex hull of the data, outside of which the the values

identifying local maxima
Dear R users, I have created a Loess surface in R, in which x is relative longitude by miles, y is relative latitude by miles, and z is population density at the neighborhood level. The purpose is to identify some population centers in the region. I'm wondering if there is a way to determine the coordinates (x,y) of each center, so I can know exactly where they are. Let me use the
