I cannot plot anything to the CairoPNG device.For an example:> Cairo(600, 600, file="plot.png", type="png", bg="white")> plot(1:10)> dev.off()will create an empty plot.png file. I am running R 2.12.1 (32bit) on Windows 7 (64bit). ----------------------------->

readPNG gives warnings and doesn't execute sample code from help files
Dear all, I noticed in the latest R version (R.2.12.1) that the readPNG gives following warning when running the example code in the help file (or when using any other png for that matter) : 50: In rasterImage(img, 1.2, 1.27, 1.8, 1.73) : Per-pixel alpha not supported on this device No picture is shown, and code I used to be able to run, doesn't run any more. > sessionInfo() R version

Openbugs and rbugs on mac with wine
Hello list, I?ve been trying to get OpenBUGS running on my mac using the wine emulator. I can run Openbugs just fine by doing: wine ~/OpenBUGS312/OpenBUGS.exe In the terminal, so OpenBUGS works. When I try to run the schools example using rbugs(), the OpenBUGS process starts in wine, but it just sits there, no log, no script, no output of any sort. The rbugs () call makes the init,

sort infelicity
Hello: sort(c('A', 'b', 'C')) seems to produce different answers in R interactive than in "R CMD check", at least under both Fedora 13 and Windows 7 with Windows 7 sessionInfo() copied below: In interactive, the result is c('A', 'b', 'C'); with R CMD check, it is c('A', 'C', 'b'). This produced

Error handling with frozen RCurl function calls + Identification of frozen R processes
Dear list, I'm tackling an empiric research problem that requires me to address a whole bunch of conceptual and/or technical details at the same time which cuts time short for all the nitty-gritty details of the "components" involved. Having said this, I'm lacking the time at the moment to deeply dive into parallel computing and HTTP requests via RCurl and I hope you can help me

Writting my own package - 64 bit problem with R_GetCCallable
Hello list, I've been working on a package of my own. It works fine on the 32bit linux machines that I've tested it on. Someone using 64bit ubuntu wanted to try it, and surprising segfaults happened. My test code results in no segfault, errors, or leaks from my calls when run under valgrind (I recompiled R with the level 2 valgrind instruments). R and packages are compiled from source,

using "plot" with time series object - "axes = FALSE" option does not appear to work
Dear R-help, I am attempting to plot data using standard R plot utilities. The data was retrieved from FRED (St. Louis Federal Reserve) using the package quantmod. My question is NOT about quantmod. While I retrieve data using quantmod, I am not using its charting utility. I have been having success using the standard R "plot" utilities to this point with this type of data.

circular reference lines in splom
Hello everyone, I'm stumped. I'd like to create a scatterplot matrix with circular reference lines. Here is an example in 2d: library(ellipse) set.seed(1) dat <- matrix(rnorm(300), ncol = 3) colnames(dat) <- c("X1", "X2", "X3") dat <- as.data.frame(dat) grps <- factor(rep(letters[1:4], 25)) panel.circ <- function(x, y, ...) { circ1

model diagnostics for MatrixModels
Dear list, I have been working with the MatrixModels package quite a bit this week, and it is proving to be extremely valuable for my current work (I am working with several factors with many levels, leading to a sparse model matrix). However, as my knowledge of statistical theory leaves much to be desired, there are certain aspects of model evaluation etc that I am having trouble with. Has

reshape: cast(x, a ~ b ~ .) vs. cast(x, a ~ b) difference
Hi, I have a problem with understanding what the function cast() from the package reshape is doing. In the example below I have a 2x2x2 array which I first melt and then cast to get the averages over the field 'strain' for every combination of the fields 'treatement' and 'gene': ------ > mdat <- melt(array(rnorm(8), dim=c(2,2,2),

system(..., invisible=FALSE, show.output.on.console=FALSE) in Windows 7
Hello, I work for a company in which a number of employees use R. Many of them like to run executables via the system function in such a way that the output of that executable is displayed in a separate window. To give an example of the behavior they require, the following command can be run in R GUI: system("cmd",invisible=FALSE,show.output.on.console=FALSE) The result is that a
