Problems compiling packages from source: can't find -lquadmath.
Hi all,
I have recently installed Debian squeeze on a Dell T7500, but I have
pinned R and friends to come from the unstable distribution. Currently I
have these Debian packages installed (with dependencies):
r-base-core 2.14.1-1
r-base-dev 2.14.1-1
The problem comes when installing new source packages from CRAN using
install.packages(). Below is a typical installation output:

MacOS X: Packages KernSmooth and cluster won't compile
Hello,
I'm using R 1.40 on MacOS X X.1.2 (installed via the fink package manager).
To upgrade my installed packages, I tried to use update.packages() today.
All went well for most packages, with the exception of KernSmooth and
cluster. In both cases, libraries were not found although I think they are
present.
Here's what happened:

Inconsistent use of Perl? (PR#1937)
Dear all
yesterday I got around to install R-1.5.1 on my machine at home which,
admittedly, is running a very old version of RedHat Linux. I noticed
two things:
1) My pdflatex version is too old to produce the pdf version of the
manuals. `./configure' checks whether a recent version of makeinfo
is installed and tells you whether you can produce the info version or
not. (I was told I

Installing odesolve under MacOSX
Installing odesolve in Raqua 1.8.0 or 1.8.1 under MacOSX gives the following
message:
Warning message: Installation of package odesolve had non-zero exit status
in: install.packages(ui.pkgs, CRAN = getOption(where), lib = .libPaths()[1])
Moreover, in the source of odesolve is no makefile.
Does anyone know how to get a proper installation?

Assembler messages?
Up to now I have got the base R and about half of the packages
working on SuSe Linux 5.3 using gcc, g77 and xdevel.
The other half, for example: pspline, logspline, KernSmooth, akima,
tripack, ppr, principal.curve, cluster, funfit, repeated, event, etc.,
just won't install.
Some of them give warnings at expressions in subroutines (repeated,
event, pspline,etc.. I will ask about this in

Hello,
I know this is off topic, but I've come to the conclusion that the only
people who can answer my question is other Samba users...
I would like to deploy on our network a centrally administered antivirus

SWAT modification....?
Hi,
I would like to suggest a modification to the SWAT web gui. I have
been successfully using Samba for a few years now at my institution and
it is a great product. We use it here to handle all of our file serving
for around 11,000 users. We have 3 Sun E450's serving up to a 1000
clients
each at any one time with no problems. That's the background, here is my
request. In the SWAT gui

C Compiler for samba1.9.18p1
Where can I get a freeware C compiler for Solaris 2.4 for x86?
And how can I perform a very simple test that the compiler works on
my machine, before trying it on the samba Makefile?
The date and version number - maybe "cc /help"? - would be a start.

Files Updates
Hi,
I have an Informix program that unload data to a file in a samba directory.
Problem is although the file has changed, I still see the old data from my
Windows 98 SE PC. I only see the updated data after refreshing the snmba
directory numerous times. Sometimes I have to wait for more that 10 minutes !!
Funny thing is this problem does not apply to my friend's PC.
Why is this so and

Samba scaling
Andrew,
Did anyone reply to you on this?
By the sounds of things you are running a pair of E450's?
We currently use Samba on about 6 or 7 Sun E450's and E250's, it scales
very well. I have managed to have about 700-800 current clients
connected
from Windows 95 and 98, we also have the about 30-40 NT clients that
connect
regularly. I have found that Samba has scaled uniformly in

network extremely slow

I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

Bug in RODBC ?
Dear lists,
It seems that RODBC has a problem : when reading through ODBC from an Access
table with missing values, *character* missing values are (correctly) reported
as NA factor values. *Numeric* values, however, retain the value of the same
variable in the previous row.
My setup : R 1.1.1 under Win95, RODBC as compiled with the R Win CRAN
distribution, MS Access 97.
I just discovered this,

File lock
I am failing to lock a database file on a unix server (Solaris486) when
the file lock request is sent from Visual Foxpro on Windows 95.
Any suggestions on testing procedures, or even a solution??
Please feel free to assume that I don't know anything about file locks!
I don't even know how Visual Foxpro attempts to lock a file.
Would the Foxpro lock be recognised by any application?
