How to put given values in lower triangle of splom-plot?
Dear R-experts, I have found a splom-modification online which is given below. This works perfectly, but I would like to have a matrix of given correlation values to be used in the lower triangular part (lower.panel) of the splom-plot instead of calculated correlation values. Here is the matrix I would like to use (it can be any other convenient data structure):

splom, plotmath: how to add three lines of information with alignment?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a scatter plot matrix with splom(). The lower panel should contain some additional information about the samples shown in the upper panel plot, see the splom() call below. Now two questions came up: (1) The lower panels show "tau" and "alpha" on top of each other. How can I plot *three* expressions on top of each other? I tried several

Lattice: How to color the data points in splom() according to the panel they are plotted?
Dear ExpeRts, I have the scatter plot matrix as given below. I would like the different "sub-plots" in the scatter plot matrix to be colored differently. How do I get all points shown in the upper-left plot (on position (1,1) in the scatter plot matrix) to be plotted in blue, and the points shown in the plot to the right (on position (1,2) in the scatter plot matrix) to be plotted in

splom Tick Location
When using the 'splom' function of the 'lattice' packge, is it possible to get all the tick marks in the outer margins of the plot? X <- as.data.frame(matrix(rnorm(1000), 100, 10)) plot(X) ## Tick marks are in the outer margin splom(X) ## Tick marks are inside the on-diagonal panels Thanks. - Elliot [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Adding axis lines to splom plots
Hi, I am trying to produce a 30x30 lattice grid. The 30 variables naturally fall into three groups of ten and I would like to add thicker axis lines around these to highlight this. However, I can only do this separately, so far, and I don't know how to superimpose the grid with the thicker lines (separating the 10x10 groups) onto the overall grid of all 30x30 plots. I enclose a

FIX: pscales=list(...) and splom
Dear R Users, When plotting with "splom" I tried to use the pscales=list(...) feature Unfortunately it didn't work at all. Instead the scales always were suppressed. So I looked at the source of panel.pairs and found: "draw <- is.numeric(pscales) && pscales != 0" which rather has to be: "draw <- is.list(pscales) || (is.numeric(pscales) &&

Splom custom superpanels
I thought one nice addition to a splom figure would be to have the scatterplots in the upper triangle and a color-coordinated correlation matrix on the bottom. So I tried my hand at customizing panel.pairs(), and was rebuffed. Many times. Four hours of fruitless debugging later, I turn to you for help: panel.pairs(z=teststatfull[,6:12], pscales=0, panel.subscripts=FALSE, subscripts=,

lattice: defining grouping variable only for the upper/lower panel with splom
Using the mtcars dataset, how to define the grouping variable to be valid only for the upper or lower panel? The following doesn't work: # Code start splom(~data.frame(mpg, disp, hp, drat, wt, qsec), data=mtcars, pscales=0, auto.key=list(columns=3), upper.panel = function(...){ panel.grid(...) panel.xyplot(groups=cyl,...) } ) # Code end -- View

How to use expression(italic()) in a "vectorized" way (within a function)?
Dear expeRts, I would like to use expression() for creating labels in a splom, as shown in the first minimal example below. Is there any way I can simplify having to write "expression(italic(...))" several times? The second example is what I tried so far, but I can't manage to get italic() to work. Moreover, it still seems bulky... Cheers, Marius ## minimal example (working but

panel.pairs in splom

Adjust the distance between tick mark labels and axis
Hi all: I've been trying to figure out a way to move the tick mark labels in my lattice plots closer to the the axes. I've tinkered with a lot of the "buffer" parameters (those listed by trellis.par.get()), but haven't had any luck. Any ideas? Cheers. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How to add the variable name to a qqplot or densityplot in the diagonal of an splom?
splom() doesn't complain here, but writes no names in the diagonal boxes. What am I missing? I believe that I need to add something like grid.text(x, ...) to the diagonal panel, but I don't know how to get it cycle through the column labels. And should varname.col = 'blue', varname.cex = 1 be inside the diag.panel() function? splom(szw[, n], pscales = 0, diag.panel

Lattice: distance of tick labels from axis line
Hi, I am doing fine editing on a lattice plot, now have the Y-axis title in the correct position, but the tick labels are too far from the axis line. I looked at the help documentation but could not find how to change this. This seems to be easy to do in basic plots with "at=c(value1, value2, value3)" . Is there some equivalent in lattice? Thanks. -- View this message in context:

[lattice] Increase distance between tick labels and ticks in wireframe plot ("pad")
Hello, I try to increase the distance between tick labels and ticks in a lattice wireframe plot. Here's a minimal example: ## Minimal example x <- y <- z <- c(1,2,3) df <- data.frame(x, y, z) wireframe(z ~ x*y, df, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, col = "black", font = 1, tck=0.6)) I tried the axis.components option

lattice: How to vertically adjust an axis label?
Dear expeRts, How can I vertically adjust an axis tick label so that it is nicely aligned with the other labels? library(lattice) xyplot(0~0, xlim=c(0,3), scales=list(x=list(at=c(1,1.1), labels=c(expression(hat(theta)[italic(n)]),expression(theta))))) ## aim: move the leftmost expression up so that theta is nicely aligned with the second theta. Quiz: Who finds the nicest form of X_1^\prime?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a plotmath-label of the form X_1^\prime. Here is how to *not* do it [not nicely aligned symbols]: plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X*minute[1]))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X[1]*minute))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X)[1]*minute)) Any suggestions? lattice: How to increase space between ticks and labels of z-axis?
Dear expeRts, How can I increase the space between the ticks and the labels in the wireframe plot below? I tried some variations with par.settings=list(..) but it just didn't work. Many thanks, Marius library(lattice) u <- seq(0, 1, length.out=20) grid <- expand.grid(x=u, y=u) z <- apply(grid, 1, function(x) 1/(x[1]*x[2]+0.0001)) wireframe(z~grid[,1]*grid[,2], aspect=1,

Possible or not possible: serif axis labels with plotmath [but everything else sans serif]?
Dear expeRts, I it possible to have serif labels in the following plot? x <- 1:10 y <- x plot(x, y, type="b", xlab=expression(x[1]), ylab=expression(x[2])) I know that one can use pdf(, family="serif"), but then also the axis tick marks are printed in serif font. Apart from the fact that it may not look nice, I'm just interested if one can have serif axis labels

mtext in trellis-loop & colorkey
Hello, I would like to create a sequence of plots (using a for loop). I read in the FAQ that print() has to be used in order to obtain any output. This works perfectly fine as long as I only consider one function call in the loop, but I would like to add mtext() to the each plot in the loop. Unfortunately, this did not work. Any suggestions? As you can see from the provided example,

lattice: axis ticks, axis alignment and remove axis from plot
Hi there, I'm a bit confused concerning the axis tck setting in the lattice package as the ticks on left sided axis aren't drawn at all with the following setting: dados <- data.frame(varsep = factor(rep(1:2,10)), i = runif(20)) library(lattice) my.theme <- list( axis.components = list(left = list(tck = 1, pad1 = 1, pad2 = 2), top = list(tck = 0, pad1
