bind problem
I have bind running on two servers. Both servers are running bind-9.2.4-7. When I update a zone file on the primary and reload bind, the secondary receives a notify, but does not initiate an AXFR. The only way I can get the secondary to update is to delete the zone file on the secondary and restart named. Any ideas what might be wrong? Mike

CentOS 4.3 on Intel Xeon Core 2 Duo
Dear list, I am planning to buy a new server -because the new Core2 Duo based Xeons (5100 series) are considerably faster in some scenarios than Opteron machines while not beeing more expensive, I would like to hear some real-world experiences from people who have installed CentOS 4.3 or 4.4 on such a setup. Specifically: CPU: 2x Intel Xeon 5100 2GHz Board: Intel S5000 chipset RAID5:

Opteron vs Xeon?
Hi I'm setting up a SIP gateway, serving quite a few potential users, and I wonder if I should purchase a Opteron or Xeon based system. Xeon has it's HT, but is it worth it? Has anyone tested Opteron on asterisk? Does it work well? There'll be no transcoding in this system - G.711A all way through roy

Xeon 5160 vs 5080
Chip Clock HT Cache Bus Speed --------------------------------------------------------- 5080 3.7 GHz YES 2MB 1066 MHz 5160 3.0 GHz NO 4MB 1333 MHz Does the .7 GHz and HT worth more then 4MB cache and higher bus speed? The application is VoIP so there is not a lot of IO so I would not think Bus Speed would matter. I am finding mixed information on HT, some say it is great, others say it

MySQL on tmpfs?
Has anyone ever mounted their /var/lib/mysql on a tmpfs or ramfs? Are there any performance gains to be made doing this? TIA

Performance: Xeon or Opteron?
I was offered an upgrade path for my two Dell 1750's (2.8 Dual Xeon) to get into a pair of new Dual Core Dual Opteron servers. Assuming I can get the IRQ BS worked out so my TE411XP doesn't flip out, this should be a pretty significant upgrade. Has anyone been able to quantify any benefits to using one processor over the other? Should I wait for the newer Intel processors this summer

Raid / dual Opteron power issues
Hi All, I've just started caring for a dual Opteron machine. It has a 3Ware 9500S-12 RAID controller, a Tyan S2882G3NR motherboard, 10 IBM 400GB disk drives, and a 650 watt power supply. It has been behaving itself quite nicely until recently. The poor behavior started when I upgraded the OS from CentOS 4.1 (32 bit) to Centos 4.1 (x86_64). When running in uniprocessor mode, the system

[Way OT] New hardware
Can anyone share experience with opteron versus the xeon (woodcrest) for R under linux? I am looking at using 16-32Gb of ram in a workstation (as opposed to a server). Thanks in advance.... Sean

Running R on dual/quad Opteron machines
Dear all, I am managing a departmental purchase of an Opteron based workstation/server for scientific computing on which we will be running R. The environment will probably be either Unix/Linux or Solaris and the amount of RAM will be 8-16Gb, depending on the number of processors. My main concerns are the following: 1. How much does R benefit from passing from one processor to two/four

getting Centos on "used" rackable systems 1U with dual Opteron 248 HE
hi there. anyone have any tips on params to pass to the kernel etc in order to install Centos4 or Centos5 32bit or 64 bit installed on this unit i can get it close to install, yet no cigar. it is a tyan MB and ill try to get more info if needed... for this case, please assume for now that the hardware itself is not "bad" thanks in advance... - rh Rackable Systems Dual Opteron 2.0

Rblas for dual Xeon
Does anybody have a tuned Rblas.dll compiled against ALTLAS for a dual Xeon system? Unfortunately, we have very strict security that does not allow compilers of any sort on production desktops - we only have Pentium III development PCs. cpuinfo flags change under 3.2-testing?
Hi, I''m building Xen on a 64bit machine, then using the xen.gz from that on a 32bit host (so that it can boot 64bit guests). This works fine. However I note that after booting xen.gz from 3.2-testing /proc/cpuinfo has different flags. 3.2.1 is the same. I have not yet tried 3.3.x. 3.2.0 results in: flags : fpu de tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr mca cmov pat pse36 clflush

No performance increase from dual-core processors?
Hey all, I was planning on getting a new computer for the new year to help with my dissertation research, and recently had an opportunity to compare the performance of my 1.6 GHz Pentium M laptop, and a 2.8 GHz dual-core Pentium processor (both running WinXP professional 32-bit). I run a lot of long simulations, so I was hoping to get something that would speed them up. I ran a few quick

Unexpected results using HTB qdisc
Hi All, I am using the script below to limit download rates and manage traffic for a certain IP address and testing the results using iperf. The rate that iperf reports is much higher than the rate I have configured for the HTB qdisc. It''s probably just some newbie trap that''s messing things up but I''m buggered if I can see it. The following script is run on the

Benchmarking Xen - Xeon vs Opteron. Will memory latency make a difference?
Has anyone done any performance profiling for Xen on different platforms? I''m wondering if the big (50%+) memory latency advantage the Opteron''s have over the Xeon''s makes a big difference in the context of a Xen host with multiple active guest domains. Particularly at the moment I''m considering the 2-way situation with the SunFire v20z vs the Intel SR1400JR2.

64-bit R on Intel Xeon EM64T running fine
Dear mailing-list members, In the days of cheap RAM and microarray applications feasting on memory, 64-bit computers become more and more useful - to actually make use of memory beyond the magic 4GB border. I would like to report the success of running 64-bit R on an Intel Xeon EM64T machine under Linux. Just like on an AMD Opteron, R v2.0.0 compiles fine (and out of the box) and is happily

athlon64/opteron 8GB per CPU
I'm putting together a spec for a big(ger) memory x86_64 host, and I hope some of you-all can help. I'm looking for success stories of hardware that folks are using in production environments, preferably with CentOS 4, with more than 4GB of memory per CPU. I know there are lots of mobos out there that can do this, but I'm looking for what folks really have running. Call me
