pickle in R
Hello all!
I was wondering if there is a way to pickle an R object into a file
like it is possible in python? Such as you have an complicated R
object(not a dataframe) , you use a function to write it to a file and
than you have a function where you can retrieve the object from that
file later on.
Thanks

Suppress horizontal mean line in beanplot()
Hi,
I would like to use the beanplot() function from the beanplot package.
Unfortunately, I can't find out how to suppress the dashed horizontal
line, that shows the overall mean.
In the help I've found the argument "overallline", but it only allows
for "mean" or "median" .
I have tried overallline = F, overallline="n", and

Unbalanced data in split-plot analysis with aov()
Dear all,
I'm analysing a split-plot experiment, where there are sometimes one or
two values missing. I realized that if the data is slightly unbalanced,
the effect of the subplot-treatment will also appear and be tested
against the mainplot-error term.
I replicated this with the Oats dataset from Yates (1935), contained in
the nlme package, where Variety is on mainplot, and nitro on

Question on callNextMethod
I don't understand why I get the following results. I define two classes
'Base' and 'Derived', the latter of which 'contains' the first. I then
define a generic method 'test' and overload it for each of these classes. I
call 'callNextMethod()' in the overload for Derived. From the output, it
appears that the overload for Base gets called twice. Why is

Source code for nlm()
Hi,
Where can I find the source code for nlm()? I dowloaded the R2.8.1.tar.gz
file and looked at all the .c and .f files, but couldn't find either nlm.c
or nlm.f
There is an nlm.r file, but that is not useful.
Thanks for any help,
Ravi.

RWinEdt problem
Hi R Helpers,
I am a long time RWinEdt user and have just acquired a new laptop. I have
installed RWinEdt and things are going smoothly except for one small glitch
- file names are not appearing on the document tabs. When I use WinEdt (as
opposed to RWinEdt), they are appearing. Can anyone offer any advice on
this?
Thanks in advance,

Which mysql for a new project?
Hi all,
I am about to start a new RoR project. Which version of mysql is the
current best one to use? I will be using the soon-to-be-released RoR
1.0 for the project. I really don''t want to start a PostreSQL vs.
MySQL vs. Whatever war. I have all databases including Oracle at my
disposal. This project will be my testbed for using RoR with mysql. I
will be doing other tests with other dbs

Problem with R 2.9.0 vs. R2.8.1 with either "survival" package or "predict" function
Just wanted to alert everyone regarding a problem that I only
experience with R2.9.0 and not with R2.8.1 when I run both using
exactly the same script and the same data.
Here is what I do with my data "MyData", 2 predictors (V1 and V2) and
my survival DV "Depvar":

Blocking problem with embeded R (windows)
Hi all,
I am trying to make calls to R from an MFC application running on XP
and am having problems blocking the application while the call
executes.
I have tried the following approaches to using R from the application
(note that I set a wait cursor while R is executing).
1) call rcmd in BATCH mode using system(). This works well, except
that I get the cmd window popping up... which makes the

Restarting Asterisk using a script - Thanks to all -
Hi All,
I do have asterisk installed for a call center and I would like to know if
it is possible to create a scipt and execute it from a PC connected to the
Network without accessing the server. This script should restart asterisk
and another service related to aheeva.
The problem now is that each time I have to access using PUTY to the server
to start and run services manually.

Hi List,
Is it possible to define how 'in' works for an object of a specific class
(to achieve a similar result to implementing the iterator protocol in a
class Python)?

Mad Rails
Hello all,
I work for a company located in Madison, WI and we''re looking at
replacing a pre-Struts J2EE ecommerce app with Rails. ''ve been
using Rails with pleasure for the last year on several supporting
applications, and I have everyone else convinced that it''s at least
worth investigating. The developer team has a few experienced Java
