Basic Stats question
Dear All
I am a stats newbie and have a basic stats question;
i have y as dependent variable and x1 to x5 as dependent variable.
I need to know which variables x1 to x5 are actually affecting y. How
do I find out?
can an example be given which makes things clear (if possible)?
Thanks

Object Browser
What's the best object browser?
Dear all,
I have tried all the popular R IDE or editors like Eclipse, Komodo, JGR,
Revolution...
They all have fancy fucntions like auto completion, syntax highlight....
BUT, I JUST WANT A OBJECT BROWSER!
The easiest way to view objects in R console is fix(), but you have no
global view of all the objects in the workspace.
Revolution has the best object

R 2.12.0 and JGR
Since upgrading to 2.12.0, I'm having trouble getting the JGR to start under Windows 7, but I'm not quite sure what's happening.
When I try to run the JGR.exe stub, the dialog says can't find Java R interface jri.dll. As nearly as I can tell from a Google search this is to be a part of the rJava package which seems to load fine with the library(rJava) command from the Windows R

Quality Management/Assurance tools.
A few days back, I had I had written a mail about Box plots and

Based on the suggestions, I am trying three GUI's: R Commander,

JGR Segmentation fault
I have been trying to get JGR up and running but so far no luck. I installed
R from source using the homebrew package manager and everything works fine
and I was able to install JGR and all its dependencies. Every time I try to
start JGR I get the error below. Any idea why I'm getting the Segmentation
fault? Thanks.
System Info:

JGR/Deducer Installation
Hi,
Sorry if this is to wrong mailing list. In that case, please point me
to correct mailing list.
Please also excuse rather long mail - I am not sure what piece of
information would be useful for anybody who could help me.
Couple of days back I had put a query about box-plots using GUI. I
got some excellent suggestions. One of them was to use JGR/Deducer.
It worked quite well for my needs.

productivity tools in R?
Hi all,
Could anybody point me to some latest productivity tools in R? I am
interested in speeding up my R programming and improving my efficiency
in terms of debugging and developing R programs.
I saw my friend has a R Console window which has automatic syntax
reminder when he types in the first a few letters of R command. And
he's using R under MAC. Is that a MAC thing, or I could do the

an IDE for R... JGR perhaps?
Hi,
I've just been browsing for IDEs for R, see e.g. http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20080413133953606/R.html
It's probably highly subjective, but which free IDE is the best one around? For the Python language, I've always been using IDLE. I like the syntax highlighting and the syntax suggestions the user gets while typing a function name. Ideally, the IDE should run on any

Cloning R Installation Across Multiple Computers
I would like to set up identical R installations, with the same packages,
on multiple computers and with minimal interaction by users. Ideally, I
would like to have an installation script that the user can just run that
will set up everything, including R itself and base packages.
Standard packages would need to include ggplot2 and its dependencies, Rcmdr
and its dependencies and some Rcmdr

Full_Name: David Kesling
Version: 2.9.0
OS: Windows Vista & XP sp2
Submission from: (NULL) (65.166.169.237)
I upgraded to 2.9.0 on my desktop (XP) and my laptop (Vista Home Basic). The XP
machine (with both Tinn-R and JGR) is running just fine... very happy. The
laptop is NOT doing too well. I've had to activate the XP-compatability mode AND
run Rgui as administrator... and there still

Windows editor suggestions - autosave
I am looking for advice on an editor to use with R (windows) that has an autosave feature. I typically write scripts using the RGui (and tried TinnR yesterday) but I am having continuing problems with BSODs (non R related) and have in the past have had issues with R crashes and would really like a system that does not require me to remember to hit the save button on my script every 10 minutes so

R-/Text-editor for Windows?
Tinn-R (http://www.sciviews.org/Tinn-R/) is one of the topmost
suggestions when googling an R-(text-)editor for Windows. However,
to me it appears dissappointing that Tinn-R does not handle utf-8
(mac-roman, or any other) encoded R-scripts or, in general, text
files. Besides Emacs and the R built-in editor, could you
recommend a good editor for Windows, even some commmercial for a

R GUI ???
Hello !
I am really happy to find this list. I am not new to R but to Debian or
Linux in general. Up to now I used R on MS Windows but now I want to use
R on Debian lenny. I have absolutely no experience with Debian.
I was able to install R 2.11 on my system using the instruction in the
readme on CRAN. I can open R in the shell.
On windows I used R with the R GUI or with Tinn-R. Is there the

installing java on ubuntu 11.10 installation
Dear list members,
I am starting to get acquainted with linux on a ubuntu 11.10 installation on an external hard disk. I have just installed R and all the packages available in the r-cran-* list. Now, I would like to get on with the installation of packages like Deducer and Acinonyx. The former requires JGR which in turn requires Java. I have tried to follow the instructions available at the

NMDS in Vegan: problems in stressplot, best solution
Hello,
I can draw a basic stress plot for NMDS with the following code in package
Vegan.
> stressplot(parth.mds, parth.dis)
When I try to specify the line and point types, it gives me error message.
> stressplot(parth.mds, parth.dis, pch=1, p.col="gray", lwd=2, l.col="red")
Error in plot.xy(xy, type, ...) : invalid plot type
In the above code, if I removed line type,

Letor: Post Mid-Term plan
Hello Rishabh,
As per our previous discussion, we will talk each week now about the
project. Please update the timeline/todo/journal accordingly so that we can
check the status on this saturday for this week.
Please remember that this half of the programme is smaller and hence we
would need to be very punctual about the goals.
Regards,
Parth.
