Samba 3 as PDC with Debian Linux server and Windows XP clients
Dear list
I am relatively new to networking problems of this kind so apologies
for the potentially simple question. I am trying to upgrade an existing
network to one using Samba 3 to configure roaming XP profiles on a
limited number of clients. I have re-written the smb.conf file to
reflect what I think are the appropriate settings, and this passed
testparm successfully, but I am unclear

Problem booting Dom0
Hi,
Thanks to everyone involved in the Xen project. I think it is great
and can''t wait to get my hands dirty with it. In the meantime, I
cannot boot Dom0 on an ibm x335 and I am not sure what the problem is.
Any insights are welcome.
Here is what my grub.conf file looks like:
title Fedora Core (2.6.8-1.521)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.8-1.521 ro root=/dev/sda9

initialise_wins failing - failed to open wins.tdb
Hi Guys,
Since the automatic fedora update to 23c I'm having problems with samba
crashing when a share access is attempted. However, I also notice that
the nmbd daemon isn't being started up properly (though its startup
script, through init.d, shows it as starting up OK).
The error that is being shown in the logs is:

Samba 3.0.23c panic
Hi,
I've just updated (using yum under fedora 5) to the latest version of
samba and am now encountering a major problem with samba. Whenever I
attempt to access shares (don't have printers or other such non disk
shares) the access fails (after prompting for password, and performing
some level of authentication, it notes if no password is entered that
Anonymous login successful).

cant see cups print queues via samba.
It is possible to see the print queue and via NT4's printer window.
Correct? And remove the jobs too, right? But not for me.
cups-1.0.5, samba-2.07 on linux-2.2.15
queues show ok using lpq
printing from nt works ok using samba.
in smb.conf I have:
printing = cups
print command = lpr -P%p -s %s; rm %s
lpq command = /usr/local/bin/lpq -P %p
lprm command = /usr/local/bin/lprm -P %p %j

World of Warcraft 1.5.1
Yesterday's WoW patch[1] introduced a rather annoying bug making it
impossible to select things like NPCs. The problem can be fixed (well,
worked around) in Cedega using the config option "MemoryLayoutOverride"
= "0x10000000". I seem to recall this is an area in which Wine and
Cedega differ quite substantially, unless there's been some more
convergence recently,

Build a special RPM
Hi,
I want to build a single RPM that has more than one software in it and a
different name from them.
Let's imagine for the sake of example that i want to make an RPM called
databases.rpm that installs both MySQL and Postgres.
How can i do this with a single spec file ?
I've googled for an hour or two and found no info about this issue.
Can someone enlighten me, please ?

problem with samba on irix 6.5
I have a problem with samba 2.05a on my irix-6.5 box. Now I know this
must be a user problem because I have run samba on this machine before.
Samba compiles and runs fine and I have tried the precompiled version
too. I have /tmp shared out as [tmp] and get the following messages in
log.smb when I try to connect to it using smbclient from the localhost
smbd version 2.0.5a started.

compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi,
I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this
machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf
"acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic"
the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic!
So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop.
they had no effect.... This AMD turion 64 4000+ rating laptop is still
running SLOWWW...

workgroup name, small nmdb bug in 2.0.6
Im running 2.0.6 on solaris 7 on an ultra sparc and have discovered the
following strange behavior:
Samba was configured with --prefix=/usr/local/daemon/samba
with this directory being a link.
/usr/local/daemon/samba -> /localhost/daemon/samba-2.0.6
smbd and nmbd are looking for smb.conf in /usr/local/daemon/samba/lib
and this is where the file is. Changes to smb.conf are noticed and acted

Call Pickup with CID info
I was wondering if someone could help me with this, I've searched high and
low to find more info but with no success. When I want to transfer a call
from another ringing sip phone to my sip handset I dial *8. This works but
the caller ID shows up as *8 on my handset. What I want to do is be able to
have the original caller id come up on my SIP phone rather than *8.

lpr command as user, lprm command as nobody
Im using samba 2.07 from source on a digital unix 4.0e machine.
Users are connecting to their unix home directories fine. There are
also samba print shares. Im using cups-1.0.5 for the print server but
this problem looks like it's part of samba. The authenication is done
from a NT server. Ie the global section of smb.conf

Actually, I was more interested in how you set up the disk array. The
biggest one I'd set up was a while back, when 60

Vignette problem and CRAN policies
Hello, All:
The vignette with the sos package used "upquote.sty", required for R
Journal when it was published in 2009. Current CRAN policy disallows
"upquote.sty", and I've so far not found a way to pass "R CMD check"
with sos without upquote.sty.
I changed sos.Rnw per an email exchange with Prof. Ripley without
solving the problem; see below. The

apci issue
Hi,
Updated to current bk today, and my machine stopped booting ...
I''ve tracked it down to the apic changes from end of last week.
cset 1.1307 boots fine, 1.1308 doesn''t.
Diff of the boot messages is below. Full logs are also attached.

Re: Problems with ext3 fs
Hi,
I have read this thread and want to say that I have expirienced the same
problem.
Once, when I was loged in, one of my filesystems ( root filesystem :( )
became read-only with the same symptoms.
But results was more tragic. Almost in each directory avg. 10% of files
had incorrect attributes, owner, links, etc.
But filenames was correct. So, I was obliged to re-create root
filesystem :(
