Question about adding text to xYplot(Hmisc)
Hello, I have been trying to make a graph that have error bars and text at specific position. I used the following code from the help file of xYplot(Hmisc) as an example except I add a myPanel function, which is just supposed to add letters from the alphabet at the position aligned at y = 3. It constantly gives me error: "Error using packet 1 argument "subscripts" is

Adding error bars to xyplot()
Hi, I want to add error bars to a plot generated with xyplot. I've tried both errbar() and plotCI(), but in both cases the points are not in the same place. It's as if the two functions are using a different frame of reference for the plotting area. for example: means <- c(92.5, 92.25, 90.9, 91.0, 94.15, 90.05) #means time <- c(1,1,2,2,3,3) #occasion variable group <-

latex, Hmisc with MikTeX 2.8 produced "n&missing&unique" output
Hi - So when I run the following, I get a strange formatting output with MikTeX, and I am unsure if the behavior is due to R, Hmisc, or MikTeX or both: dfr <- data.frame(x=rnorm(400),y=sample(c('male','female'),400,TRUE)) latex(describe(dfr)) What happens is that the x column is summarized in the output of latex correctly. Then the y summary ends up looking like:

upData levels in Hmisc
Dear listserve members, especially Prof. Harrell: I am trying to create a factor variable that has fewer levels than the original. I have a factor: >rosa$risk1 [1] 2 2 5 1 ... [1799] 3 3 1 3 1 6 3 3 1 5 3 5 3 3 3 0 3 3 3 1 1 3 Levels: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 But when I do this: rosa2 <- upData(rosa,

Massive Update to Hmisc package
Hmisc 4.0-0 is now on CRAN. The package has undergone a massive update. The most user-visable changes are; - support for Rmarkdown html notebooks - advanced html tables using the htmlTable package and summaryM function; can copy and paste into word processors - support for plotly interactive graphics, e.g. options(grType='plotly') plot(describe(mydata)) - new function

Background color Windows device (newbie)
Dear R Gurus Just started on R ! Using xYplot from Hmisc (R 1.9, W2K) I get a grey/blue background that I would like to change to white (ie no background) or may be to another color. Tried to do that with par(bg) but only changed the color of the trellis heading. What's the right command to do that ? Kind regards, JL PS if anyone has nice default settings for win device please let me

Bug in xYplot() with method = 'filled bands'
Dear r-helpers, I have been bitten by a cryptic comment in the help page for xYplot(). Here is some code from Madeline Bauer, one of the authors, which is essentailly the code on the help page for xYplot(): # This example uses the summarize function in Hmisc to # compute the median and outer quartiles. The outer quartiles are # displayed using "filled bands" set.seed(111) dfr

Latex problem in Hmisc (3.8-1) and Mac Os X with R 2.11.1
Dear all, I did post this more or less identical mail in a follow up to another question I posted, but under another heading. I try again, but now under the correct header. upon running this code (from the Hmisc library-latex function) I believe the call to summary.formula is allright and produces wonderful tables, but the latex command results in a correct formatted table but where all the

Conflict between xtable and Hmisc when using Sweave?
Dear R users, The Sweave code below runs fine, as it is. However, an error occurs when the line 'library(xtable)' is uncommented: Error: chunk 1 Error in "label<-"(`*tmp*`, value = "month") : no applicable method for "label<-" Is anybody aware of this and knows a workaround? Thanks, Sander. *******************

Booting problem with memdisk + Thinkpad + USB
Hi, I encountered a booting problem with memdisk 2.83, USB and IBM Thinkpad T61, apparently the same issue as described here: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2008-April/009850.html The boot process always stops after "Loading boot sector... booting...". With debug tracers enabled, the last few output lines are: Loading boot sector... FR<p>Dbooting...

Need basic PPPoE startup help
I need basic PPPoE startup help. adsl-start DID bring up my PPPoE link (ppp0) to my ISP over eth0 via the DSL modem/bridge. My IPv4 CIDR block is routing and Shorewall is doing the firewalling. But shorewall has to be started after ppp0 is up and working. For now this means running shorewall restart (or start?). Shorewall 4.2 will have a way to restart shorewall without recompiling, I

R-alpha: User friendly functions
A loose idea for *post*-0.50 development I've been giving a some (but not all that many) thoughts to whether some of the conceptual difficulties facing newcomers could be avoided by having simplified functions for common operations. We already have parts of this, e.g. in Kurts ctest routines. Specifically, I was thinking about data frames: How about

Speex quality estimation in lossless media
Hi, There is a lot of speex quality estimations. One of this comparative estimation is even available on the official site <http://speex.org/comparison/>. I'd like to present yet another one. And I thought that the best place for this presentation would be Speex-dev mailing list. I want to get feedbacks and criticisms please. If Speex authors consider to make some parts of this work

Hmisc labels and captions in latex.list()
I am trying to feed a list to latex to use with SWeave, and the list comes from contents(). Since it is a list, a caption and label are generated by latex.list - these are not overridden by setting the parameters (such as caption='myCaption', label='myLabel'). I must clearly be missing something - is there no way to set a caption or label with the latex() function when

R-alpha: frametools v.0.0000001
The following three functions are designed to make manipulation of dataframes easier. I won't write detailed docs just now, but if you follow the example below, you should get the general picture. Comments are welcome, esp. re. naming conventions. Note that these functions are definitely not portable to S because they rely on R's scoping rules. Not that difficult to fix, though: The nm

"Missing links": Hmisc and Design docs
Hi folks, Using R Version 1.6.2 (2003-01-10) on SuSE Linux 7.2, I just installed Hmisc_1.5-3.tar.gz and Design_1.1-5.tar.gz These were taken from http://hesweb1.med.virginia.edu/biostat/s/library/r Checked the dependencies: Hmisc: grid, lattice, mva, acepack -- all already installed Design: Hmisc, survival -- survival already installed, so installed Hmisc first All seems to go
