coded to categorical variables in a large dataset
I am working with a dataset where there are 5 possible outcomes (coded 1:5), I would like to create 5 categorical variables (event1...event5). I am using a for loop an if statements, but I have a large dataset( approx 100,000 rows) it takes quite a bit of time, is there a way to speed this up? Here is some sample code of what I am currently doing. test2 <-rep(seq(1:5),2000) event1 <-

Nested anova with unbalanced design and corrected sample size for spatial autocorrelation
Hello all, This may be a simple question to answer, but I'm a little bit stumped with respect to the calculation of the F statistics in nested anovas with unbalanced design in R. In my case, I have 11 vegetation transects (with 1000 10cmx10cm squares), where we estimated shrub cover. We have two different treatments: wildfire (4 transects) and prescribed burning (7 transects) and we want to

Exporting columns into multiple files - loop query
Hi, I'm using a loop to extract 2 columns from an array into multiple files. I can use the following to export 3 files, containing column 'ID' with one of the three event columns. > ID<-c("A","B","C","D","E","F") > event1<-c(0,1,0,0,1,0) > event2<-c(1,1,0,1,0,0) > event3<-c(1,0,1,0,1,0) >

frailty and time-dependent covariate
Hello, I'm trying to estimate a cox model with a frailty variable and time-dependent covariate (below there is the statement I use and the error message). It's seems to be impossible, because every time I add the time-dependent covariate the model doesn't converge. Instead, if I estimate the same model without the time-dependent covariate it's converge. I'd like knowing if

Creating panel data
I'm new to R. I am trying to create panel data with a slight alteration from a typical dataset. At present, I have data on a few hundred people with the dates of occurrences for several events (like marriage and employment). The dates are in year/quarter format, so 68.0 equals the 1st quarter of 1968 and 68.25 equals the 2nd quarter of 1968. If the event never occurred,

I would like to add two horizontal lines representing acceptible drug levels to a trellis plot. I tried using abline and I get an error that "plot.new has not been called." Aliases not working in a subclass ?
Hi folks, I''m overriding some resource attribute in a subclass. It seems that specifying a resource by its alias doesn''t work in a subclass. Looks like a bug, no ? === module-classes.pp === class module::base { file {"/tmp/test-module": alias => test-module, content => "module::base", } } class

error "Stack level too deep" on ''exec[ "perl Makefile.PL" ] ?
Hi, I''m testing puppet from the subversion trunk. I have a rather hacked-together system to install a CRM into one of my nodes, which worked (more or less) with version 0.19.3. When I tried to do a puppet run on a completely clean node it seemed to stall on the ''compilation'' part (I do an exec of ''perl Makefile.PL'' in the appropriate dir). When I broke

date_helper megapatch and MultiparameterAssignmentErrors
Hello all, There''s a great patch in trac that fixes a lof of issues with the date helpers. I''m afraid it hasn''t had any attention yet. http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/3811 This fixes all the little date_helper problems, except one: When you choose an invalid date ActiveRecord throws an ActiveRecord::MultiparameterAssignmentErrors. This used to work in 1.0,

New Feature: Graphing
Hi all, One of the major new features in the upcoming release is that Puppet now uses a graph library internally to handle resource relationships. The big benefit to all of you is that you can use this library to turn these graphs into images. The trick, right now, is adding --graph when you run puppetd. This creates .dot files, which can then be interpreted by the

Raspberry PI3 - CentOS armv7hl gnome desktop
Maybe there is a better place to post this message but as my question was still CentOS related thought I would start here. Please advise if there is a better forum of which to ask this question. I am playing around with making a "desktop" workstation out of a Raspberry PI3. I have had no problems installing the OS and pretty much have everything working except a Gnome desktop. I

munin module: manage clients and server''s config
Hello all. Probably this question has already been posed in the context of another software, but I am unable to find it. I would like to implement a module which should manage munin-clients as well as the munin-server. Here is what I am thinking about implementing: - There are two classes: munin::client and munin::server - munin::clients'' configuration will be managed automatically.

Example module for central git repository via http (sort of like a subversion repo) [a bit RFC]
Hi all, I''ve been looking for a good example for how one would build a module, but I couldn''t really find something that I liked, so I went ahead and tried to do it myself. The result is this: a git module (see attachment). Please have a look and comment on it, before I add it to the wiki. I especially want comments on the setup of the module itself, not so much on the git

How to conditionally run defines?
Hi all, Is there a (simple) way to add conditionals to a call to a define? What I want is to run a define only if a file (that gets created somewhere along the run of the define) does not exist. In this way I can skip a whole lot of setup work in the define if I know it has already run once before. I would think adding a unless clause would be a elegant solution (and the other conditionals like

"server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys, Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file. The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show that it *is* getting

Repeated measures unbalanced in a split-split design
Hi, I have a experiment with block, plots, sub-plots, and sub-sub-plots with repeated measures and 3 factors (factorial design) when we have been observed diameter (mm), high (cm) and leaves number (count). However, we don't have one treatment in one factor, so, my design is unbalanced. On a previous message here, a friend tell me that "It appears to me that your design is a split-split
