scatterplots in car package
Hi, using scatterplot in 'car' package. There are 4 plots to be pictured together (ignore data used): library(car) par(mfrow=c(3,1)) ts.plot(rnorm(100)) ts.plot(rnorm(100)) scatterplot(rnorm(100),rnorm(100),boxplot="",smooth=T) # scatter with non-parametric fit problem is that the last one comes 'always' separate. Is there any way to solve it?? of course can use

scatterplot (car) legend modification
hi, new to R and using the car package to do some scatterplots with ellipses hoping to add the area and center points of each ellipse to the legend? looking for some direction / ideas.... here is the script, the data is where golf shots end up by club. x (dispersion), y (distance), group (Club) thanks, sam ## usage: Rscript shotScatter.R infile outfile level1 level2 minX maxX minY maxY

scatterplot in Package CAR
Hi Folks, Please, when I ask the option reg.line at the scatterplot in package car, the OLS models includes a constant? If not how can I do it sing the following code: scatterplot(lfirms ~ lscale, data=dataset, reg.line=lm, smooth=FALSE, labels=FALSE, span=0.5, xlab="Relative Plant Fixed Cost", ylab="Relative Number of Firms", pch=c(18),

Fine tuning scatterplot() (car package)
Hello all! System: R2.0.1, W2k. All packages apdated with update.packages(). I use the default graphic device for my system (no active choice). I?m trying to fine-tune scatterplot() graphs (package car), for publication. I want to control plotting symbols and colours to match plots from other, less flexible, systems. I also need to make all text and symbols bigger, to enable printing of the

(CAR) Scatterplot and problems (?) with abline
Network Blitz I'm trying to generate a graph to summarize Interest Rate Parity. This involves a scatterplot of x against y where the x and y limits are set so to center the graph on 0,0 and then adding each axis line and a 45 degree line. Using CAR's scatterplot (sample code below) everything except the axes plot fine: scatterplot( Interest.Rate.Dif ~ ForPrm| profit,

Axis Formats with library(car)
I am trying to develop scatter plots using library(car). However, the output I am getting shows the axis (x and y) in scientific notation. I want to have the axis represented by regular integers (for eg. the X axis i want the upper bound to show as 40,000,000 instead of 4.0e+07). Scanning the r-help archives did not get me the answer. I have uploaded my data here: http://bit.ly/olgMLt

invalid 'row.names' length error when running scatterplots or plot in R Commander
Hello, I teach statistics and use R Commander for teaching. I have 2 students out of 169 that can't get scatterplots or plot to work. I have had them update packages, restart R/R Commander/their computers and even reinstall R/R Commander. One is using Windows 7 on a new pc and the other is a pc user (not sure the OS). They are both using R2.11.1 and R Commander 1.6-0. The data look like

using eval to handle column names in function calling scatterplot graph function
I am running R version 2.15.1 in Windows XP I am having problems with a function I'm trying to create to: 1. subset a data.frame based on function arguments (colname & parmname) 2. rename the PARMVALUE column in the data.frame based on function argument (xvar) 3. generate charts plotvar <- function(parentdf, colname, parmname, xvar, yvar ){ subdf <-

follow up on teaching R to high school students
Some of you may recall that a few months ago I solicited advice and opinions on both R-help and R-sig-teaching about an "introduction to R" workshop I intended to present to a class of high school students enrolled in a 3-year longitudinal science research class. Much lively discussion ensued. Well, I did the workshop on 8 November, and thought I'd give some follow-up as to how it

Q - scatterplot, plot function & trellis linear regressions???
Hi R-listers, Q1) What is the difference between the scatterplot and plot function? Q2) I am able to make a graph with the scatterplot function: scatterplot(DevelopIndex ~ Veg, + data = Turtle, + xlab = "Vegetation border (m)", + ylab = "Embryonic development index") And have been successful. But I do not know if the lines are for:

boxplots instead of a scatterplot
Dear R list, I am a newbie to R and programming itself, so my question may be easy to answer for you. I wanted to create a scatterplot and i used the following code: par(mar=c(10, 4.1,4.1,2.1)) plot(q$location,q$points, , las=2, cex.axis=0.5,xlab="", ylab="" ) #location are character strings, there are about 70 locations #points are numeric, there are more than 4 points for

Boxplots over a Scatterplot
Hello- I'm new to R, coding and stats. (Oh no.) Anyway, I have about 12000 data points in a data.frame (dealing with dimensions and geological stage information for fossil protists) and have plotted them in a basic scatter plot. I also added a boxplot to overlay these points. Each worked fine independently, but when I attempt to superimpose them with add=true, I get a different scale for

Plotting extra lines on scatterplot
Hello Everyone- I'm in the process of slowly learning R and am having a little bit of trouble plotting an extra line onto a scatterplot. I'm sure the answer is quite simple but I am stumped. The code I am using is: headways <- read.table("headways.csv", header=TRUE, sep=",", na.strings="", dec=".", strip.white=TRUE) plot.new()

Scatterplot - symbols coded by factor
Hi - I would like to create a scatterplot with the symbols coded by a factor in each record. Is their a better way than what I have used below? I attempted to use the plot.factor, but cannot force it to make a scatterplot instead of boxplots. I have considerd making a function with a 'for' statement for each level of the factor. Is there a better way for when I am dealing with more

categorical variable in scatterplot (car)
Hello R folks, I am encountering a problem with the following scatterplot function from the car package: > scatterplot(y~x|z) where y and x are continuous (interval) random variables and z is a categorical variable. When z is a categorical variable coded 1 or 2, I (appropriately) get a scatterplot of y by x, coded by z. Similarly, when z is a categorical variable coded 1, 2, or 3, there is

Scatterplot of two groups side-by-side?
Dear all I'm realy new to R, so I hope you can help me, as I didn't find any solution in the common books. Since some days I'm trying to create the following plot: A scatterplott showning two different groups side-by-side with according regression lines. Both datasets only have the same five factors, so the scatters will form a kind of column at each factor. When I use

Q - scatterplots
I was able to make a scatterplot but ... 1) what does the "86" mean? The "86" shows up on the graph as well. > scatterplot (Shells/TotalEggs ~ Sector, data = data.to.analyze) [1] "86" 2) Also how do you change the Y axis title? I don't want it to read Shells/TotalEggs, instead I would like it to read Average Hatching Rate (%). 3) What does this error mean?

Automatic anchors for text boxes
Hi All, I'm struggling to add text automatically to plots. I have a series of scatterplots that I have stored in a script because the underlying data changes often and the plots need to be regenerated. I use the scatterplot function (defined in Rcmd, I believe). When one of the variables is a factor, a boxplot is drawn over the scatter of the other variable. In the case where x is a
