kiteChart to show real values with scalebar
Dear R-users I hope someone could help me on this problem. I want to create a multiple kiteChart showing the real values with a scalebar on each indicating the scale . Here are some sample data to show what I want to achieve. Y <- read.table(textConnection("Sample1 Sample2 60 20 150 50 300

R kiteChart (plotrix) arguments
Hey, I hope someone is able to help. I've created a graph using kiteChart (in the plotrix package) but need to know how to perform some basic text alterations to the graph. I would like to re-orientate the text on the y-axis from vertical to horizontal. I understand that the argument normally for this is las=1. However, this does not seem to work. Perhaps kitechart uses an alternative

Preparing data frame for Plotrix kiteChart
Although, I can fix this, I am trying to sort out something as straighforward as possible for my students, and I have some questions that hopefully someone can help me with. My data is: Species Distance Count A 5 0 A 10 5 A 15 5 A 20 3 A 25 1 B 5 8 B 10 20 B 15 28 B 20 12 B 25 12 C 5 5 C 10 12 C 15 19 C 20 27 C 25 34 But I am struggling to get this into a data frame that does

nomianl response model
Is there a way to estimate a nominal response model? To be more specific let's say I want to calibrate: \pi_{v}(\theta_j)=\frac{e^{\xi_{v}+\lambda_{v}\theta_j}}{\sum_{h=1}^m e^{\xi_{h}+\lambda_{h}\theta_j}} Where $\theta_j$ is a the dependent variable and I need to estimate $\xi_{h}$ and $\lambda_{h}$ for $h \in {1...,m}$. modifying axis labels in lattice panels
Dear all, I am struggling to modify the axis labels/ticks in a panel provided to xyplot. To begin with, I do not know the equivalent of the xaxt="n" directive for panels that would set the stage for no default x axis being drawn. My goal is to draw ticks and custom formatted labels at certain hours of the week. When I execute the code below, I get an error message in the plot window that

Violin plot of categorical/binned data
Hi, I'm trying to create a plot showing the density distribution of some shipping data. I like the look of violin plots, but my data is not continuous but rather binned and I want to make sure its binned nature (not smooth) is apparent in the final plot. So for example, I have the number of individuals per vessel, but rather than having the actual number of individuals I have data in the

vertically stacked area plot?
Dear all, I would like to create a vertically stacked area chart in R. The data are presented in the attached text file. I would like to see the trend in values for the different groups with sediment depth (that's why I would like to create a vertically stacked chart; normally sed_depth should be = x, but I want it plotted on the y-axis). In the packages available to create stacked area

3D scatterplot, using size of symbols for the fourth variable
Dear R fans, I would like to create a scatterplot showing the relationship between 4 continuous variables. I thought of using the package "scatterplot 3d" to have a 3-dimensional plot and then using the size of the symbols to represent the 4th variable. Does anybody know how to do this? I already tried to create this graph using the colour of the symbols, but I was unable to generate

Kite diagrams
I teach biology, and would like to show the students how to use R for some statistical assignments. One of those is to make a kite diagram (for example as seen in http://www.medinavalleycentre.org.uk/images/Bembri1.jpg). Is there any way to create one using R? I did a help.search("kite") and looked on the r-project HP with no luck. Previously when the course was taugh the students have

R 2.12.0 does not open in Tinn-R 2.3.5.2
Dear R users, I tried opening the R console in Tinn-R, but this is not possible. I get the following message: C:\Program Files\R\R 2.12.0\bin\R-gui.exe The file above is not executable. Please, set it with 'Options/Main/R/Path/Gui' Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks Ellen [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

number of shared species between sites (VEGAN or RICH?)
Dear all I'm trying to calculate the number of shared species between sites. I have a dataframe with in the first column the names of the sites; the names of the other columns are the species names. To use the shared function from the package RICH one needs to input different matrices. So actually, I want to split the dataframe per row so that each row becomes a separate matrix and then

succession time series graph
Dear gracious R community, I would like to produce charts of phytoplankton biomass changes through time. Each species has a line, and the biomass varies in mirror form along the line for each species along the X time axis. Here is an example of what I'd like to do: http://www.er.uqam.ca/nobel/r30240/Succession.jpg Any suggestions? Thanks David Bird UQAM, Montreal

Tukey post hoc comparison (glht?) after 3factorial mixed model (lmer)
Hello, dear R-community. This is a question about TukeyHSD between factor combinations of a Three-Way ANOVA, which is - since it is a multi measure ANOVA - not a simple ANOVA but a Generalised Linear Mixed Model (GLMM), calculated with "lmer". > growth <- groupedData(length~meas|box_id,outer=~spec*comp*water,data=all.spec) > model <-

Time Series
Hi How would I analyse time series with - different lengths (i.e. one has 9 entries and the other has 14 entries) - different frequency (i.e. dates are random - no repeated length) - multiple values for the same time entry (e.g. 2009-10-23 below) i.e. my data takes the form: 1st time series 2009-10-07 0.009378 2009-10-19 0.014790 2009-10-23 -0.005946 2009-10-23 0.009096 2009-11-08 0.004189

Repeated Measures/Linear Mixed Effects function
I have three columns of data, Xc, Trt and fish. This was a repeated measures design with 6 measurements taken from each of 5 fish. Xc is the actual measurement, Trt is the treatment, and fish is the fish number. Data can be seen below (hopefully it is in the column format). I would like to look for differences between treatments in a repeated measures format. I used the following code

No space left on device on not full filesystem
Hello, We have running lustre 1.8.1 and have met "No space lest on device" error when uploading 500 Gb small files (less then 100 Kb each). The problem seems to depends on the number of files. If we remove one file, we can create one new file, even with Gb size; but if we haven''t remove something we can''t create even very little file, as an example using touch

Revolutions blog: January 2018 roundup
Since 2008, Microsoft (formerly Revolution Analytics) staff and guests have written about R at the Revolutions blog (http://blog.revolutionanalytics.com) and every month I post a summary of articles from the previous month of particular interest to readers of r-help. In case you missed them, here are some articles related to R from the month of January: Josh Katz and Peter Aldhous used R to
