Why Windows sucks.
The most eloquant rant on Windows I've read for a long long time.... http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2005/02/04/notes020405.DTL

MMIOFLAC
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [To: flac-dev@lists.sourceforge.net] I've made my very first release of MMIOFLAC at <http://math.berkeley.edu/~roconnor/MMIOMP3/>. It is an IOProc DLL that plugs into OS/2 multimedia system. The DLL allows playback of FLAC files. Seeking and encoding will be added. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the easy to use

Example FLAC's
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [To: flac-dev@lists.sourceforge.net] I'm working on making a plugin to OS/2 Multimedia subsystem for FLAC. I can't seem to find example FLAC files anywhere on FLAC's website. Where can I get some test files (perferably with WAV equiavlents). - -- Russell O'Connor <http://www.math.berkeley.edu/~roconnor/> ``[Law

process_single
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [To: flac-dev@lists.sourceforge.net] Has anyone successfully decoded a FLAC by a series of process_single's (I'm using the seekable_stream interface)? Whenever the process_single make a read callback, then next time I call process single, the decoder losses sync. I'm trying to determine if it is a problem in my code, or a problem in

Calling All FS Fanatics
Now that I've been enlightened to the terrible write performance of ext3 on my new 3Ware RAID 5 array, I'm stuck choosing an alternative filesystem. I benchmarked XFS, JFS, ReiserFS and ext3 and they came back in that order from best to worst performer. I'm leaning towards XFS because of performance and because centosplus makes kernel modules available for the stock kernel.

sysfs udev hald -_-
I tried creating a new partition on a disk. After the partition table was written, I got a message about the kernel still using the old partition table. How do I get whatever system to register the new partition short of rebooting the box?

compressed file VFS
Hallo, we have a clinical system that generate lot of files that once written are never changed. This file consume lot of disk and tape space*, so my idea was to compress this files. The problem is that it can happen, that the users have to open this files later. Is there a VFS module for samba that show gzipped** read only files as if they were standard files ? Anaconda doesn't support raid10
So after troubleshooting this for about a week, I was finally able to create a raid 10 device by installing the system, copying the md modules onto a floppy, and loading the raid10 module during the install. Now the problem is that I can't get it to show up in anaconda. It detects the other arrays (raid0 and raid1) fine, but the raid10 array won't show up. Looking through the logs

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good experience with this Supermicro motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead. JC
