"easiest" way to write an R dataframe to excel?
I am using R 2.11.1 in a Microsoft Windows 7 environment.   I tried using WriteXLS, but get the message " In system(cmd) : perl not found"   What is the "easiest" way to write an R dataframe to Excel?  (I am familiar with WriteXLS, but I do not have PERL installed, and if not needed, do not wish to install it.)   I am also familiar with write.table, but if possible, wish to

using read.table, removing extra quotation mark from a text field? (e.g. ""cat" )
I am using read.table to import a text file within R.   There are several "errors" in my text file.  An "extra" quotation mark has inadvertently been included within a few text fields.   e.g. for a pipe (|) delimited text file, I have something similar to this:   1|7|30| "dog" 2|6|25| ""cat" 3|4|20|"" 4|5| 56| "mouse" 5|3|56|

Operaciones con cadenas
Buenas noches: Perdonad por la sencillez de la cuestión, pero resulta que estoy obcecada y no consigo ver un modo simplificado para detectar si una cadena tiene únicamente ceros y unos. ¿Alguna idea?. Gracias. Atte.- Eva [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

nchar on data.frames
I don't understand why nchar() gives different string lengths for vectors in a list than it does for vectors in a dataframe. Here's a snippet of code: > temp <- list(text=c("thug","jimbob","apple","thug"),numbers=1:4) > nchar(temp$text) [1] 4 6 5 4 > temp <- data.frame(temp) > nchar(temp$text) [1] 1 1 1 1 Could someone explain

Gracias.   Eva [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

convert zoo object to "standard" R object so I can plot and output to csv file
Another newbie question I got the 1 minute spine interpolation and 15 mean aggregation working with many thanks to Gabor Grothendieck using Zoo functions. I got a tip from Hasan Diwan to look at xts but it seemed I would make better progress using code from Gabor. Now I'm having trouble plotting this zoo object. I'm thinking I want a function to "split" the zoo object back to

re: Spatial stats: R vs. Splus
Hello, Could someone tell me whether the spatial statistics module of Splus is worth the rather high price, or whether one could (with reasonable effort) carry out the same things using R and some of its contributed packages. Although we do have Splus (Windows and Unix), we definitely prefer to use R whenever feasible (both for research and teaching). Thanks for developing a superb

Question on .Options$max.print
Hi, I have a tiny question concerning .Options$max.print I have to set up this value to a greater value than 10000 because I want to concatenate my output of a function to one single string (for connivence). I did this via .Options$max.print <- 64000 or options(max.print=64000) Then I call out <- paste(out, blabla) several times, but nchar(out) is never larger than 10000. I read
