SiI 3114 and RAID
I've two machines with almost identical hardware (slightly different
CPUs). The SATA/RAID controller is SiI 3114.
One of the servers was installed a while ago by someone else, it's
running Fedora Core 5 and RAID is enabled:

e-sata
Hi,
Does anybody has any experience with e-sata on CentOS5.2?
- How fast is it? Same as an internal sata?
- Does it support sata-2?
- Does it "hot-plug" like a USB?

Thanks

External SATA enclosures: SiI3124 and CentOS 5?
Tired of "little problems" trying to keep 7 drives working in an old desktop
computer, I'm considering an external SATA drive enclosure with a controller
card based on the Sil3124.
http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=152
I'm a bit concerned about long-term support, namely that the company's driver
page only lists drivers through RedHat 4.

Hot swap SATA?
Should it be possible to hot-swap SATA drives with Centos5? It doesn't
seem to work on my system. Removing an unmounted drive locked the
system up, and leaving one out at bootup makes the devices change names
and keeps grub from finding /boot on a scsi drive that is shifted up.

SATA controler req
Hello,
I'm looking for a recomendation for a SATA controlers. In the range of 4-8
ports, either PCI or PCIe (for desktop use) and/or PCI-X, PCIe (for server
use). I'd especially like it if the Linux driver was already in CentOS or
easily added. Everytime I find something interesting, a google search shows up
either the drivers is for 2.6.30 (ie, not CentOS), someone tried it and it was

Is this bug forgotten ?
Anyhow, I ran into it when setting up this strange network of mine.. I dont
think my setup is causing anything strange however.. It appears even if no
machine is connected to the "inner" port of the bridge..

4.4/64-bit Supermicro/ Nvidia Sata RAID Driver
Hi,
I am installing Centos ServerCD 4.4 64-bit on a new Supermicro board,
the RAID BIOS looks fine, RAID 5, all 4 Seagate ES 250 GB drives show up
as a single array in the RAID BIOS tool, and the OS install phase
completes without a hitch.
One thing I noticed was that the OS was loading the sata_nv driver and
picking up the 4 Sata drives instead of the large RAID5 volume, it
should just

CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
I've been having an extremely hard time using the on board SATA
controller on my nvidia based board. I have two 160gig Maxtor SATA
drives attached to the on board controller, setup as software raid0. The
problem is the array is extremely unreliable, where I'm getting constant
I/O errors like:

end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector

Seagate NCQ + Sil3112 (sata_sil)
All,
I have a problem with a new Seagate hard disk. The problem occurs when i
go to install CentOS, i insert the cd and start the boot up process,
when it gets to the section where it detects the hard disks, the driver
is seems crashes, the message it produces complains about no one caring
about a interrupt on IRQ11. The hard disk is a Seagate 200GB 8MB SATA150
NCQ drive, on a SilliconImage

3.0.4 ACPI support and Opteron 2210 ?
Hello,
I originally posted this to xen-users, but someone suggested I post it here.
I am having ACPI problems on a PenguinComputing Altus1600 system.
It has 2x dual core Opteron 2210 processors.
The system boots with a standard Debian or Ubuntu SMP kernel, with ACPI
enabled. However the xen live cd, binary xen install, as well as my own custom
compile of xen 3.0.4 from source will not boot.

SATA - SIL3112A controller
Hi folks,
I have just installed a PCI SATA controller based on the SIL3112A
chipset into my Centos-3 (latest kernel patches applied) system and
moved an existing (not the boot disk) SATA drive from the onboard
controller to the SIL-based one so I can setup software RAID with two
300GB drives. Kudzu/Linux found the controller and drives straight away
and they've appeared as 'hda' and

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and
so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R
disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is
a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware.
Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording
is a different matter.
The drive shows up as

SATA errors in log
Hi,
I have a SATA PCIe 6Gbps 4 port controller card made by Startech. The
kernel (Linux viz1 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64) sees it as
Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9123
I use it to provide extra SATA ports to a raid system.
The HD's are all "WD2003FYYS" and so run at 3Gbps on the 6Gbps controller.
However I am seeing lots of instances of errors like this

Hot swapping sata drives
I have a two external USB drives only 1 is connected to centos 5.1 at a
time.
the USB drive is SLOW compared to SATA.
The external drive suppots both connections USB and SATA.
I bought a little $5 external SATA connector that goes into the
PCI slot area (does not actually take a PCI slot just the backpanel)
and just plugs back into one of the available SATA
ports on the motherboard.

SAS vs SATA: Same size, same speed, why SAS?
I''m building another 24-bay rackmount storage server, and I''m considering
what drives to put in the bays. My chassis is a Supermicro SC846A, so the
backplane supports SAS or SATA; my controllers are LSI3081E, again
supporting SAS or SATA.
Looking at drives, Seagate offers an enterprise (Constellation) 2TB 7200RPM
drive in both SAS and SATA configurations; the SAS model offers
