Postfix Question
I've googled around and although I get a lot of hits about postfix smarthost authentication with ssl, I can not find out how to actually accomplish the task. I've read through smatterings of postings from Neophasis and the like searching for just the syntax and what file (I assume it's main.cf) I should be using; however, any smtpd_ lines I have tried result in postfix hanging and

Postfix + SASL
Hello list. I have a mail server where I use Postfix+SASL. Everything works fine. Sending emails when using client (Outlook, Thunderbird or anything else) require authorization. It is OK. But on the same server there is a Squirrelmail which sends emails as a localhost. To send email in this way there is no any authorization. Besides one preson use PINE on the server... How to do that

How do tzdata changes get made?
Hi All, I guess this is a political question rather than technical. New Zealand is probably extending daylight saving time with a bill currently being drafted. It will (most likely) change the end data of dst by pushing it out ~3 weeks. My question; AFAIK CentOS/whitebox/et. al. should not make any changes to tzdata - it is an upstream issue, but how do we ensure that 'upstream'

Postfix restrictions
Hi, I'm currently fine-tuning my mail server (Postfix and Dovecot on CentOS 7). SPF, DKIM and DMARC work fine, now I'd like to limit the spam tsunami. Besides the official Postfix documentation, I've read a few articles about Postfix spam restrictions, namely these : https://www.linuxbabe.com/mail-server/block-email-spam-postfix https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix_restrictions

restricting mails from "mail" command to specific domains only in postfix
Hi Friends, I have configured Postfix mail server on Centos for relaying mails from 5 linux servers (including itself) within the same LAN. The postfix mail server should relay mails from these 5 linux servers for specific domains only. For example hosts 192.168.0.23/24/25/26/27 and the postfix mail server should only be able to receive and send mails from and to example.com,example2.com and

wget not in minimal install
Hi All, I used to always do a minimal install with v4.4, and wget (and other tools) was included. With v5 if i untick *everything* in the installation (incl "base") so that i can install from 1 cd, wget is not included. I couldn't make sense of any of the xml or xml.gz files on the installation cd. (/dev/cdrom/repodata/*), although they do mention wget as 'default'

glm and capture-recapture
Hello, I am almost new in R, so perhaps my question will be silly. I try to use R for analyzing capture-recapture data in epidemiology. A cancer registry has different sources of patients. We know in each list, patients already known in all other list. The aim is to use capture-recapture models for estimating the number of patients unknow of all the sources. Because no order in sources, one

SASL + Postfix woes
Okay, I wasn't going to try and fix up the messed up mail server I was given; however, I decided that I might as well try. Situation: The system has a Postfix MTA and uses Dovecot for LDA and Cyrus-SASL for SASL. That works fine. I decided that I wanted to switch over to Dovecot for SASL. dovecot is presently using MySQL for its database. I make the (I thought) necessary changes in Postfix

Postfix vs. Thunderbird on Mac OS
Hi, I'm running our local school's mail server on CentOS 7, Postfix and Dovecot. We get quite a lot of spam, so I have the following sender restrictions in my /etc/postfix/main.cf: --8<------------------------------------------------------ # Restrictions SMTP smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_unknown_helo_hostname smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain,

HP (compaq) RAID - How to get alerts?
Hi All, Background: I have HP RAID setups (Smart Array 5, shows up as /dev/cciss/c0d0) on my DL380s, and they run great with CentOS. I have had a drive failure (HDD lights up amber), so I pulled the HDD, replaced it and the RAID controller rebuilt the array in a jiffy - no probs. My question: I cant find anything in the logs to alert me that a drive failed - this makes sense since the RAID

GLMM random effects
Hello, I have a couple questions regarding generalized linear mixed models specifically around fitting the random effects terms correctly to account for any pseudo-replication. I am reading through and trying to follow examples from Zuur et al. Mixed Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R, but am still at bit unsure if I am specifying the models correctly. pptp, ipsec and vpn
Hi All, This is a general VPN question; PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation? Specifically the 6 problems reported here : http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html or maybe im being paranoid? Would any of you roll this solution out

I need sleep (dovecot auth / postfix 2.3)
I need the new sleep feature (smtpd_*_restrictions) of Postfix 2.3 snapshots, but I'm using the Dovecot auth patch. The 2.2.1 patch had problems in the snapshots I tried. Fortunately the problems were very simple. rob0 at room101:~/src/mail/postfix-2.3-20050630$ patch -p1 < ~/dl/postfix-2.2.1-dovecot-auth.patch [snip] patching file src/smtpd/Makefile.in Hunk #1 FAILED at 1.
